"I'm so proud of you. You've come a long way since that day I found you by the lake. But can you keep your emotions in check long enough to take me on? Or will they get the better of you as always? I always told you, you'll be ready the day you'll knock me down as yourself. This is that moment. This is that moment, Vers!"
―Yon-Rogg to Captain Marvel[src]

Yon-Rogg is a Kree Empire commander and leader of Starforce, with a devout loyalty to the Supreme Intelligence and the Kree ideologies. During the Kree-Skrull War, Yon-Rogg and Minn-Erva were dispatched to kill Mar-Vell on C-53, seeking a Tesseract-powered energy core that she was developing. Yon-Rogg later took under his tutelage Vers, a United States Air Force pilot who absorbed the core's energy during its destruction. Years later, at the prospect of Kree victory, the Starforce had cornered the Skrull population, including Talos, to C-53. When Vers learned of her true origins on C-53, Yon-Rogg was authorized by Ronan the Accuser to capture her. After failing to wipe out the Skrull refugees and stealing back the Tesseract, Yon-Rogg was defeated by Vers and sent back to Hala with a warning to the Supreme Intelligence.

"Pararescue's on the way. You have two minutes until you're surrounded."

Yon-Rogg looks at the aftermath of the crash

Yon-Rogg was sent along with Minn-Erva by the Supreme Intelligence to retrieve the energy core of the Light-Speed Engine created by Mar-Vell after the latter betrayed her race. He intercepted her and Carol Danvers during a flight and shot them out of the sky. After the plane crash-landed, Yon-Rogg shot Mar-Vell with a Kree Pistol, killing her.

He then demanded from Danvers the location of the engine's energy core, with the latter shooting it and creating a huge explosion, resulting in her absorption of the energy. Yon-Rogg was then informed by Minn-Erva that the core was completely destroyed and that Danvers was still alive. He decided to take Danvers to the Kree, believing they could turn her into a weapon.[1]

Training with Vers

"I slipped."
"Right, you slipped as a result of me punching you in the face."
"I was already slipping when you happened to punch me in the face. The two events are not related."
Vers and Yon-Rogg[src]

One morning, Yon-Rogg was woken up early by Vers because she couldn't sleep. He recommended that she take pills, but she denied it saying that she couldn't sleep because of dreams she's been having. She then invited Yon-Rogg to practice fighting with her, to which he accepted and followed her to another building.

Yon-Rogg trains Vers on how to fight properly

As soon as they started training, Yon-Rogg knocked Vers down by punching her in the face. She tried to cover her mistake by telling him that she slipped. As they continued fighting, Yon-Rogg asked Vers about her dreams, to which she replied that it wasn't anything new. He insisted that she forgets the past so that she could control her powers. He warned her about the dangers that emotions could bring if she let them loose. Vers accidentally throws Yon-Rogg in the air with a photon blast, prompting the latter to arrange a meeting with the Supreme Intelligence for Vers.

The pair then took a train to the Supreme Intelligence. On the way, Yon-Rogg told Vers that the Supreme Intelligence would take the form of the person that she admired the most. She asked him who he saw, only for him to refuse to give an answer saying that it is a sacred thing that no Kree divulged. Yon-Rogg advised Vers to rely less on her emotions and more on her brain so that her powers would not get out of control.[1]

Yon-Rogg gets Starforce ready for the mission

"The Skrull general Talos has sent kill units to find Soh-Larr. Should they reach him before we do, the intelligence he's acquired over three years is as good as theirs. The Accusers will bomb a Skrull stronghold here in the south, we slip in, we locate Soh-Larr, and we get out, leaving them without noise."
―Yon-Rogg to Starforce[src]

Yon-Rogg later received a mission for the Starforce from the Supreme Intelligence. He explained to his teammates that the Skrulls have invaded one of the planets at the border of the Kree Empire, Torfa and that one of the Kree spies, Soh-Larr was compromised. He told them that the plan was for the Accusers to bomb a Skrull stronghold while the Starforce would silently rescue Soh-Larr.

The Starforce are attacked by Skrulls

The team traveled to Torfa where they landed underwater and used their suits to go to the surface. As they planned their attack, Vers suggested going alone, with Yon-Rogg declining the offer. As Starforce met some locals, Yon-Rogg tried to make them stand down. To everyone's shock, the locals were, in fact, Skrulls, who started attacking the team. Yon-Rogg warned his teammates of the ambush and started fighting back. After Vers was captured by Talos disguised as Soh-Larr, Yon-Rogg and the Starforce fled Torfa and retreated to the Helion.[1]

Contacted by Vers

YonRogg-DontForgetWhoYouAre

Yon-Rogg is contacted by Vers

"I thought we lost you. Did you find Soh-Larr?"
"It wasn't Soh-Larr. Talos simmed him, even knew his code."
"That's impossible. That code was buried in his unconscious."
"The Skrulls messed with my mind. The machine that they used, I think it's how they extracted Soh-Larr's code."
―Yon-Rogg and Vers[src]

After Vers escaped from Skrull captivity and crash-landed on Earth, she modified a payphone and contacted Yon-Rogg and the rest of Starforce. She used the Kree code system to identify herself and explained that "Soh-Larr" was actually Talos who even knew the Kree spy's identification code. Yon-Rogg noted that it was impossible as the code was buried in his unconscious, but Vers explained the memory probe the Skrulls used to search her memories. Vers told Yon-Rogg that she was on Planet C-53 and that the Skrulls were looking for Wendy Lawson and the Light-Speed Engine, but Yon-Rogg told her not to pursue them as she had been caught once already. Yon-Rogg then asked Att-Lass how far they were to C-53, to which he replied that they had 22 hours to the closest jump point. After their contact with Vers abruptly ended, Korath suspected that if the Skrulls had captured Vers she was compromised, but Yon-Rogg replied that she's stronger than he thinks.[1]

Arriving on Earth

"What have you done to her?"
"You're too late."
―Yon-Rogg and Norex[src]

Yon-Rogg tracked Vers' beacon on Earth to a shack, where she tried to use the Kree's code system to identify herself to him. He stopped her, noting that the code system was compromised. They then began asking each other questions that they thought a Skrull wouldn't be able to answer. When Yon-Rogg asked her about her earliest memory of Hala, she correctly answered that it was a transfusion and blue blood running through her veins, but when he asked her whose blood it was, she was surprised, unable to answer. Yon-Rogg correctly deduced that it was a Skrull and shot him in the chest with his pistol, fatally wounding him.

In his final moments, Norex transformed back to his own Skrull shape. Yon-Rogg remarked to him that the blood coursing in Vers' veins was his, and demanded to know what the Skrulls had done to her. Norex replied by saying that Yon-Rogg was too late, before an angered Yon-Rogg executed him with a final shot. Seeing as Vers was compromised and knew everything, Yon-Rogg contacted Ronan the Accuser, asking for his help to eradicate Skrulls from Earth. He then tracked Vers to Mar-Vell's Laboratory.[1]

Battle at Mar-Vell's Laboratory

"Arm wrestle for the Tesseract?"
"I used to find you amusing. Let's put an end to this."
Captain Marvel and Yon-Rogg[src]

Yon-Rogg and the rest of the Starforce arrived at Mar-Vell's orbital laboratory over Earth to capture Vers, Skrulls and their allies. Seeing Vers' suit with a different color scheme, Yon-Rogg asked what she had done to her uniform. When she said that he lied to her, he claimed that he turned her into the best version of herself. He then remotely used her Photon Inhibitor to suppress her powers, and used his Magnitron Gauntlets to knock her out. He sent her to commune with the Supreme Intelligence, but she was able to overpower it in a mental battle and destroy the Inhibitor, unlocking her full powers and escaping captivity. She retrieved the Tesseract but gave it to her allies and told them to escape while she remained to fight the Starforce and buy time.

Thinking she has the Tesseract, Yon-Rogg and the other Starforce members surrounded Vers to get it back. They charged at her, but she destroyed a metal bridge, causing a pile of debris to fall on Yon-Rogg. Later in the battle Yon-Rogg used his gauntlets to come out of the debris and fight her, throwing debris at her and eventually getting her stuck at a wall under a pile of rubble. However, Danvers used her overwhelmingly powerful cosmic powers to easily break free, revealing that she didn't have the Tesseract. Learning their plans for diversion and unable to defeat her, Yon-Rogg fled the battle scene to retrieve the Tesseract. He arrived at the lab's hanger just as Nick Fury, Goose and the Skrulls were taking off in a Quadjet piloted by Maria Rambeau. He and other Kree soldiers tried to shoot it down with their pistols. He shot Talos in the shoulder, but he survived and the Quadjet escaped, destroying the Helion in the process. Yon-Rogg then ordered Minn-Erva to take one of the lab's space pods to follow them, but as he tried to take a pod to follow them himself, Vers got to him and tried to damage the pod. He used his gauntlets to knock her off the pod mid-air, and went after the Quadjet and shot at it, causing minor damage to it. But unbeknownst to him Vers was now able to fly, and she followed and damaged his pod, causing him to crash-land in the Mojave Desert.[1]

Final Showdown

Yon-Rogg and Carol Danvers face off

"I can't go back empty-handed."
"You won't be empty-handed. I'm sending you with a message. Tell the Supreme Intelligence that I'm coming to end it. The war, the lies, all of it."
"You can't do this."
―Yon-Rogg and Captain Marvel[src]

With his space pod half destroyed by Captain Marvel, Yon-Rogg prepared for a final showdown against his former teammate in the Mojave Desert. Exiting from his spacecraft, Yon-Rogg took his weapons ready to fight, but then put them away, and firmly stated that he was proud of Danvers for having improved her powers.

Yon-Rogg arrogantly encouraged Danvers to prove her worth by facing him without her powers. As he was preparing a stance for a fair fight, Danvers shrugged him off and struck him with a photon blast, propelling him away towards a rocky wall, incapacitating him. Utterly defeated, Yon-Rogg was spared by Danvers, who resolved to send him back to Hala, claiming that she did not need to prove anything to him.

As he was strapped into his spacecraft, Yon-Rogg told her that he couldn't go back with his hands empty, to which Danvers affirmed him that he would be sent back with a message to the Supreme Intelligence: that she would be going after the Kree Empire to finish the Kree-Skrull War. Yon-Rogg responded that she couldn't do it before she used a smaller photon blast to kick start the spacecraft's engine, sending him back from Earth to Hala.[1]

Personality

"There's nothing more dangerous for a warrior than emotion. Humor is a distraction. And anger? Anger only serves the enemy."
―Yon-Rogg to Vers[src]

Like other Starforce members, Yon-Rogg is fiercely loyal to the Kree Empire and the Supreme Intelligence, he never questions the empire's intentions nor the morality of hunting down Skrull refugees who were attempting to escape the Empire's oppressive rule. He also did not hesitate to murder Mar-Vell upon finding that she was helping the Skrulls. Unlike the likes of Ronan the Accuser though, Yon-Rogg's loyalty to the empire doesn't reach extremist levels and he prefers to avoid getting the natives of unconquered planets involved in the Kree's conflicts if possible, as he was unwilling to let Ronan attack Planet C-53 until he determined that there was no other alternative.

Yon-Rogg has a sense of camaraderie with the rest of the Starforce, he also took a particular liking towards Vers and genuinely wanted to help her control her powers not only due to the Supreme Intelligence's plans. Nevertheless, he was still prepared to fight Danvers upon learning that she discovered the truth about his deception, despite that he still kept his respect towards his former teammate.

Powers and Abilities

  • Kree Physiology: As a Kree, Yon-Rogg possesses the typical physical abilities of his species, such as superhuman strength, durability, agility and an efficient healing factor.
    • Superhuman Strength: Like all Kree, Yon-Rogg is superhumanly strong and possesses greater physical strength than the average Kree as an elite warrior. Yog-Rogg was able to defeat Vers during all his training, with his punches being strong enough to knock her down and cause a small nosebleed. During the battle at the Mar-Vell's Laboratory, after incapacitating her with his control over gravity thanks to his gauntlets, Yon-Rogg hit Captain Marvel with enough force to send her flying away.
    • Superhuman Durability: Yon-Rogg's body is much more resistant to physical damage than the body of a normal human being, allowing him to resist great forces of impacts, as well as the photon blasts of Captain Marvel. Yon-Rogg also survived several metal beams that fell on him and the forced landing of his ship.
    • Enhanced Agility: Yon-Rogg naturally has greater agility, dexterity, balance and body coordination than a normal human being. Yon-Rogg was even able to match and even outmaneuver Vers when she had not unlocked her full powers with agile combat moves.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: As with all Kree, Yon-Rogg possesses a healing factor which allows him to recover from injuries in a much shorter time span than humans.

Abilities

Yon-Rogg & Carol Danvers

Yon-Rogg sparring in the morning with Vers

  • Expert Combatant: As the leader of the Starforce, Yon-Rogg is highly trained in both armed and unarmed combat. Yon-Rogg was able to overcome Vers, during his workouts, easily. Yon-Rogg also defeated several Skrulls during the mission to Torfa and was able to stay in combat against Captain Marvel, for a short time, in the battle that took place at the Mar-Vell's Laboratory.
  • Expert Marksman: Yon-Rogg is accomplished in the use of Kree firearms. Yon-Rogg was able to use a gun to kill Mar-Vell and later during the battle against the Skrulls in Torfa. Yon-Rogg was able to accurately shoot and kill Norex with his Kree Pistol.
  • Expert Pilot: Yon-Rogg is a highly trained pilot. Yon-Rogg was able to stay in aerial combat against Carol Danvers and also able to pilot a Kree escape pod with relative ease.

Equipment

Yon-Rogg (Captain Marvel)

Yon-Rogg wearing his Starforce Uniform

  • Starforce Uniform: Yon-Rogg possesses a uniform of Kree origin to use on his Starforce missions. The uniform had a built-in universal translator that allows its wearer to understand the language of anyone they interact with and be able to speak their language back to them. The uniform also contains a device capable of analyzing and identifying any object placed within it on the uniform's sleeve. The uniform's color scheme can also be customized to suit the user's preferences via a device located on the uniform's sleeve, though Yon-Rogg himself never had any reason to do this and was disgusted upon discovering that Carol Danvers had changed her uniform's color. It also includes a collapsible helmet that can fit around the wearer's head. The helmet can generate its own atmosphere and allows the wearer to breathe in the vacuum of space, as well as underwater, where it will give off a blue glow to provide light.

Weapons

  • Magnitron Gauntlets: Yon-Rogg uses two special gravity-control gauntlets incorporated into his suit designed by Kree to fight his opponents. Using them, Yon-Rogg is able to utilize his surroundings for offensive or defensive capabilities. During the mission to Torfa, Yon-Rogg used the gauntlets to send large groups of Skrulls flying through the air. Later, he used the gauntlets to catch Carol Danvers and knock her out. Yon-Rogg was also able to send several metallic objects against Danvers, even managing to leave her trapped against the wall when putting together the metals, although Danvers could finally free herself by using her photon blasts.
  • Kree Pistol: Yon-Rogg used a Kree gun to kill Mar-Vell and multiple Skrulls.

Vehicles

  • Helion: Yon-Rogg used the Helion during his missions with the Starforce. He traveled to Torfa with the spaceship during an extraction mission, which turned into an ambush by the Skrulls. Yon-Rogg ordered his team to retreat to the Helion when the situation got out of control.
  • Kree Space Pod: Yon-Rogg used a Kree Space Pod as a means to escape Captain Marvel during the Battle at Mar-Vell's Laboratory. However, he crashed on Earth after a brief confrontation with his former ally. Captain Marvel decided to send Yon-Rogg to Hala with a message for the Supreme Intelligence. She put him inside the space pod and powered its engine with her photon blasts.
  • Mar-Vell's Laboratory: Yon-Rogg and the rest of Starforce arrived at the orbital laboratory and captured Vers, Skrulls and their allies. Vers broke free and battled him and other Starforce members, defeating them all. He then tried to stop her allies from escaping the lab but failed and they destroyed the Helion on their way out, forcing him to take a space pod to follow them.
