"I wanna help you fix the mistakes. I wanna tell you something different, but the more I talk... the more I hear my words echo all over again."
―Yo-Yo Rodriguez to her younger counterpart[src]

Elena Rodriguez was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who lived in the Lighthouse after the Destruction of Earth. As a part of that loop, she was destined to send a message to her younger self from an alternate timeline and die while she protected her true love, Alphonso Mackenzie from an alternate timeline.

Biography

Destruction of Earth

Surviving within the Lighthouse

"Mack is gone! And he's never coming back."
"Please, have faith."

Rodriguez rebels against Kree rule

After returning to the present from 2091, Rodriguez was desperate to change her future, only to have her arms cut off. Despite her future self warning her of the events to come, she was unsuccessful in preventing Alphonso Mackenzie's death or the Destruction of Earth. Rodriguez, along with Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmons, Melinda May, and Robin Hinton, boarded Zephyr One and were able to make it onto the Lighthouse. Four years later, the Lighthouse was now in space, with the humans having formed an alliance with the Kree for resources. As the Kree began to takeover the Lighthouse, Rodriguez decided to set off on her own, criticizing May for the Kree alliance as she knew they would soon enslave the humans. May implored Rodriguez to stay with them and to have faith in Hinton's visions, only for Rodriguez to inform May that she lost all hope after Mackenzie died.[1]

Death and Resurrection

"They killed me, brought me back to take my blood, my DNA, then again and again for years. They revive me when they want, kill me when they don't."
―Elena Rodriguez to Yo-Yo Rodriguez[src]

Confined to the Lighthouse, Rodriguez was eventually killed by the Kree. Kasius, the leader of the Lighthouse, proceeded to use Kree blood to resurrect her in order to interrogate her, as well as to extract her DNA for his Inhuman experiments, before killing her again. Over the next seven decades, Rodriguez was constantly resurrected in order to provide Kasius with information on S.H.I.E.L.D. and Daisy Johnson along with more samples of blood, only to be killed again once Kasius was finished.[3]

Meeting her Younger Self

"Stuck in the loop. Like you."
"The loop?"
"We make it back in time. But then we bring everything that's to come."
"I... I don't believe that."
"I know. I don't think I did, either. Until I was on fire, reaching for Mack. And then there was nothing there."
―Elena Rodriguez and Yo-Yo Rodriguez[src]

Rodriguez suffered immense pain every time she was killed and resurrected, but was able to mentally withstand it by focusing on the notion that she would one day encounter her younger self again. After the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from 2017 successfully traveled through time to 2091, Kasius resurrected Rodriguez in order to find out where they were and what their plans were. Rodriguez remembered that her 2017 self was on the Zephyr One flying towards the Lighthouse at that very moment, and relayed the news to Kasius.

Rodriguez finally reunites with her other self

Rodriguez was then found by her younger self, who was shocked to see that she was alive. Rodriguez informed her past self that they did in fact make it back to their own time, but that they ended up causing the Destruction of Earth anyways. The younger Rodriguez refused to believe that the future could not change, and Rodriguez mused that she, too, believed the same thing until Alphonso Mackenzie had died. Rodriguez, remembering this very same conversation from her past, added that she wished she could say something else, only to realize that everything she said sounded familiar. As the Kree began to make their way back to Rodriguez's room, she urged her past self to flee, although not before informing her that Phil Coulson was dying and that they would have to let him die if they wished to alter the future.[3]

Executed by Kasius

"Mack! Run! Please! Go!"
"I'm not leaving, I said let her go!"
―Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Alphonso Mackenzie[src]

Kasius then entered the room and took Rodriguez hostage, bringing her to the room where the Inhuman trial ceremonies were held. The pair were then found by Alphonso Mackenzie, who was shocked to see Rodriguez without any arms, unaware that this was the future version of his lover. Rodriguez smiled upon seeing Mackenzie alive again, but her joy was short-lived as Kasius drank the Odium and slit her throat, killing her once again. Her death was avenged by Mackenzie, who murdered Kasius. The Lighthouse was then destroyed by Enoch, destroying Rodriguez's body and preventing any further resurrections.[3]

Personality

"I hope you travel a path to a world I've never seen. Now go."
"Not until you come with me!"
"Go! This is not my path."
