Yaro Roots is an extra-terrestrial plant that is used widely in the universe as a food source.
History[]
Offered as a Prize[]
While Nebula and Gamora were children, Thanos trained them by having them fight each other for six consecutive days without access to food. On the sixth day, Thanos offered a piece of Yaro Root to whoever won the fight that day, sending Nebula into a fury. Although Nebula bested Gamora in combat, Thanos gave the whole fruit to Gamora and scolded Nebula for hesitating to kill Gamora. While Nebula sat on the floor and cursed herself for her weakness, Gamora ate the Yaro Root without sharing it.[1]
Acquired by the Guardians[]
In 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy acquired some Yaro Root and stored it in a bowl in the Milano. When Groot got angry at another tree, he threw a root at it. The root hit the tree and ricocheted back to knock Groot over.[2] Later that year, when Nebula was brought on board of the ship, she requested the root to eat, which she was denied, as it was not ripe yet. During the Escape from the Sovereign Fleet, Nebula again tried to eat the Yaro Root but was stopped by Drax the Destroyer, again stating that it was not ripe. After the Attack on Berhert, Nebula finally ate the Yaro Root, only to discover that the Guardians were telling the truth and that the fruit was not ripe.[3]
