- "If he would've told me that one day he would fight off men with axes..."
"Hatchets." - ―Joy Meachum and Danny Rand[src]
The Hatchets are the weapon of choice for the Yangsi Gonshi, giving them the nickname of the Hatchet Gang.
History[]
Attack on Joy Meachum[]
Having been ordered to kidnap Joy Meachum, members of the Yangsi Gonshi dragged her out of an Penthouse, only to be confronted by Danny Rand. Determined to get away, the Yangsi Conshi drew their hatchets and attacked Rand, who defended himself and subdued the men, managing to dodge one of the hatchets when it was throw at his head. Managing to corner the men in the elevator, Rand pulled the doors open, only for one man to attempt to strike his hand with a hatchet. However, Rand used his Iron Fist to block the strike, destroying the hatchet.[1]
Battle at Yangsi Gonshi Warehouse[]
When Bushmaster attacked the Yangsi Gonshi's heroin operation in Harlem, Hai-Qing Yang ordered his men to kill Bushmaster, but he was later aided by Luke Cage. Since the gunfire proved to be ineffective, numerous Yangsi Gonshi members, armed with the hatchets attempted to attack Cage and Bushmaster. They successfully avoided any of their attacks and fought them off, and Bushmaster managed to grab one of the hatchets, but accidentally hit Cage with it, although it could not damage him regardless. Bushmaster also tried to kill some of his attackers with the hatchet, but Cage stopped him, as he strictly prohibited any killing.[2]
Dealings with Davos[]
While Hai-Qing Yang made his deal with Davos, he decided to change their agreement, much to Davos' rage. As three members of the Yangsi Gonshi drew their hatchets to threaten him, Davos responded by swiftly disarming the men and using their hatchets to cut them down, impaling one man in the throat. Davos then threatening Yang before leaving, dropping the hatchets as he left.[3]
Protection of Sherry Yang[]
In the wake of Hai-Qing Yang having his fatal stroke, members of the Yangsi Gonshi went to the Yang Mansion to guard him. During this time, Liu had encountered Danny Rand and Colleen Wing, who he demanded to leave. As Rand and Wing explained that they were there to meet with Sherry Yang, Liu revealed his pair of twin hatchets, warning them that they would either leave on their own, or he would make them. However, Mrs. Yang returned and ordered Liu to stand down, noting that she had invited Rand and Wing to the mansion herself.[4]
Rescue of Sherry Yang[]
Once Davos began his campaign against the Triads, members of the Yangsi Gonshi were forced to remain armed and alert. As Sherry Yang hid out in James Wong's Apartment, he kept a ceremonial pair of hatchets on the wall. As they were forced to then move to the Bayard Community Center to protect themselves, Liu would keep his hatchets on his belt, ready to draw them if required.[5]
Attack on Bayard Community Center[]
Eventually, the Yangsi Gonshi had been found at the Bayard Community Center by Davos, as Liu blocked his path to his superiors, drawing his hatchets to duel him. However, Davos swiftly proved himself to be a vastly superior fighter to Liu, despite Liu being armed with the two hatchets. Once Davos had knocked one of the hatchets out of his hand, he then grabbed the second, before kicking Liu to the ground and throwing the hatchet into his chest. With Liu unable to move due to the fatal injury, Davos stepped over to him and used the Iron Fist to remove his head, before continuing his mission.[6]
