Yama is a member of the Dora Milaje.

Biography[]

Dora Milaje[]

Battle of Mount Bashenga[]

As a member of the Dora Milaje, Yama witnessed the return of Black Panther after Erik Killmonger took his throne and attempted to send Vibranium weapons all over the world. On Okoye's orders, Yama and the Dora Milaje sided with Black Panther, helping him fight the Border Tribe that had turned against him. Although the Dora Milaje were temporarily defeated, they later received the support of the Jabari Tribe, which enabled them to turn the tides of the battle and claim victory.[1]

Infinity War[]

Yama would later take part in the Battle of Wakanda during the Infinity War along with the other Dora Milaje, fighting the hordes of Outriders led by the Black Order.[2]

Skirmish in Helmut Zemo's Residence[]

Along with Nomble, Yama was chosen by Ayo for a mission to apprehend Helmut Zemo who had recently been released from prison by Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. They traveled to Latvia where they confronted the group in Zemo's residence as they were already talking with the new Captain America and Battlestar.

Since the situation could not be handled peacefully, Yama joined in the fight that ensued, restraining Battlestar with Nomble before throwing her spear at Captain America, blocking his shield-carrying arm onto a table. Once the battle was ended, Yama retook her spear, before kicking the shield that had fallen onto the floor back into her own hand. Due to Zemo having taken advantage of the fight to escape, Yama was instructed by Ayo to give the shield back to Captain America before leaving.[3]

Arrest of Baron Zemo[]

Along with Ayo and Nomble, Yama went to the Sokovian Memorial, where Bucky Barnes and Helmut Zemo had been meeting, and proceeded to arrest the latter, taking him aboard an aicraft that would lead Zemo to the Raft.[4]

King's Death[]

Soon, T'Challa grew sick with an illness. Although they tried to treat it, he died shortly after. Yama attended his funeral as Ramonda took over as queen.[5]

Protecting Vibranium[]

With the reveal of Vibranium, many international superpowers wanted to get their hands on the substance. Yama, Ayo, Okoye, and Aneka were stationed at a Wakandan International Outreach Centre that held Vibranium. When mercenaries arrived, Aneka took care of one until Okoye, Yama, and Ayo slowly walked out. They then fought the mercenaries, defeating them easily. The next day, Ramonda talked at a United Nations meeting and brought out the Dora as well as the apprehended mercenaries.[5]

A War with the Talokanil[]

A New Leader[]

When the Talokanil named Namor infiltrated the River Border, the elders and Dora Milaje were called into a meeting. Yama and the rest stood on a pedestal as the Jabari Tribe arrived. M'Baku and Okoye exchanged insults until Ramonda told them to stop. The Dora Milaje then banged their spears to signify silence. Later, Shuri and Okoye went on a mission, but Shuri was captured. Out of rage, Ramonda berated Okoye, firing her. Ayo took over general duties.[5]

Attack on the Golden City[]

When Shuri returned, Namor sent his Talokanil to take down Wakanda. A tidal wave ripped through the city while the Talokanil used hypnsosis to force people off of the boat. Ayo, Yama, and Nomble put on ear plugs. Nomble grabbed a man while Yama threw explosives into the water below. She then took off in a Royal Talon Fighter with Ayo. They shot at Namor, who sliced their ship, sending them crashing below. When it was all done, Ramonda was killed.[5]

Ambush on the Talokanil[]

Shuri managed to recreate the Heart-Shaped Herb in order to kill Namor out of rage. She became the new Black Panther and ordered everyone to stage an ambush on the Sea Leopard to lure the Talokanil there. They soon fought the Talokanil, using ropes to climb up and down the side of the ship to kill enemies. A bomb was then set off, tipping the ship. Yama barely held on, clinging her spear to the side until it tipped back to normal. As they got cornered, they worried about their own deaths. However, the fight soon ended as Namor and Shuri struck a truce.[5]

New King[]

The Dora Milaje attended the incoronation of Shuri. They got prepared and did the ritual. However, when it was Shuri's turn to come out, she did not show up. Who did was M'Baku, who became the king soon after.[5]

Abilities[]

"Hey, John, take it easy. You might wanna fight Bucky before you tangle with the Dora Milaje."
Sam Wilson to John Walker[src]

Equipment[]

Weapons[]

  • Vibranium Spear: Like all the Dora Milaje, Yama wielded a spear made of Vibranium which featured incredible physical properties, including the ability to pierce through various solid materials such as stone and wood. She notably used it to prevent Captain America to use his shield, pinning him against a table by throwing her spear right between his arm and the strap he used to hold his shield.
