- "I didn't think it was real. I thought it was me, that it's my fault that I can't keep a job, that everything I touch turns to shit, that I couldn't save her. I convinced myself they were birthmarks. Even though she had the same ones."
- ―Alice Wu-Gulliver[src]
The Wu Family Curse was a curse on the Wu family which manifested itself as a demon.
Biography[]
Haunting the Wu Family[]
The Wu Family Curse was a generational curse that was passed down to female members of the Wu family. She manifested herself as a demonic creature capable of generating heat and fire. She tried to burn its victims alive and would leave painful scorch marks on her victims' shoulders when perching on top of them. The curse also ruined the lives of the people afflicted as it was the reason that Alice Wu-Gulliver couldn't keep a job.
The Curse later found and killed Wu-Gulliver's grandmother, and soon her mother, Lorna Wu. The incident that lead to the latter's death was painted as hotel fire, and it caused Wu-Gulliver to want to know what truly caused her mother's death.[3]
On the Witches' Road[]
Protection Witch Trial[]
- "The curse, I see it. I can see it. I can kill it."
- ―Alice Wu-Gulliver[src]
When Agatha Harkness' Coven entered the Witches' Road Recording Studio to complete the Protection Witch Trial, the Curse noticed them and began terrorizing them. She used her fire generation to begin burning Lilia Calderu, although Calderu was saved by Alice Wu-Gulliver using a protective circle. The Curse then burnt Jennifer Kale, but once again, her victim was saved by Wu-Gulliver. Finally, the curse grabbed Billy Maximoff and threw him into a window, severely injuring him.
The Curse's constant attacks allowed Agatha Harkness to realize that in order to defeat her, they needed to play Lorna Wu's version of the Ballad of the Witches' Road. The coven members each grabbed an instrument while Harkness took the microphone, and together, they began to play. As they finished the first verse, the Curse ignited several torches and created a wall of fire behind Wu-Gulliver, frightening the coven. However, they continued to play until the Curse fully revealed herself. Wu-Gulliver determinedly played the piano as the Curse approached her; she perched on the protection witch's shoulders, but she was unfazed. Finally, as the song reached its climax, Wu-Gulliver belted out the final note, obliterating the Curse and preventing her from haunting a member of the Wu family ever again.[3]
