Biography[]
Zombie Apocalypse[]
Surviving the Apocalypse[]
- "You know all I have to do is squeeze, right?"
"Okay, okay. Easy, killer. How about we skip the shower and grab the body spray?" - ―Winter Soldier and Spider-Man[src]
When the humanity was subjected to the Quantum Virus that turned the majority of Earth's population into zombies, Bucky Barnes managed to avoid the infection and joined a small group of survivors. They camped out in New York City in a base consisting of six train cars suspended by high rise buildings by Peter Parker's webs. One time, when Barnes was taking a shower, Parker and Kurt Goreshter sneaked on him while filming a video on how to survive the zombie apocalypse. They pulled back the shower curtain and Goreshter commented on his vibranium arm, before Barnes grabbed him by his throat.[2]
A Way to Camp Lehigh[]
When the Zombie Outbreak Survivor Group was joined by Bruce Banner, Okoye informed the others that the other survivor group supposedly made a progress on the Quantum Virus cure. Peter Parker voiced his excitement on the good news, but Barnes noted that a beacon's location was corrupted in transit, so they cannot tell where it came from. With Banner looking at the message, Barnes and Sharon Carter concluded that the signal originated from the Camp Lehigh.
They arrived at Grand Central Terminal, where Okoye ordered the group to separate and find a way to jumpstart the train, so they could head out to New Jersey, although Parker commented that separating was not a good idea. Barnes and Okoye left to guard the entrance, however, they were informed by Carter that she and Happy Hogan were attacked by the zombified Hawkeye. Before they could react, Barnes and Okoye were attacked by the zombified Falcon, so Barnes had to open fire on his friend. Falcon managed to strike Barnes down and prepared to infect him, but he was saved by Okoye who bisected Falcon. She apologized for having to kill Barnes' friend but he said that he was not particularly sad about that after Falcon tried to kill him.
Barnes and Okoye then regrouped with Carter and rushed to find the others, before Wasp reported that the train was ready to depart. Barnes and the others managed to fight off the zombie horde and hopped on the train to reach New Jersey. However, on their way to Camp Lehigh, Barnes heard Carter's scream and rushed to her, only to see that she was infected by the zombified Captain America. Without any hesitation, Barnes opened fire on his old friend but Captain America deflected the bullets with his shield and engaged with him in a fistfight. He tried to throw his shield at Barnes, but he managed to intercept it and throw it back at Captain America, killing him for good.
After Captain America's bisected body fell off the train, Barnes took his shield and was confronted by Carter, but she was then killed by the Wasp. However, the Wasp ended up being infected and moreover, their train ran out of the fuel, so they had to walk through the zombie horde to get to the facility. Knowing that she was doomed regardless, the Wasp entered a gigantic form and carried the group through the zombies, sacrificing herself. With little time to mourn their friend, Barnes noticed that the zombies were not climbing over the fence, which meant that something was keeping them away from the facility. On their way inside, the group was approached by Vision and Banner realized that the zombies were kept away from entering by the Mind Stone.[2]
Learning the Truth[]
Entering the Camp Lehigh, Vision explained to the group that the Mind Stone's frequency can destroy the Quantum Virus, showing them that he managed to cure Scott Lang's hand. Banner decided that if they could broadcast the frequency via satellites, they could potentially revert the outbreak, and although Vision argued that they did not have a proper equipment, Okoye suggested that Wakanda had what they needed. Now having a plan on their hands, Barnes decided to canvas the base and search for the transport to Wakanda, but Vision warned Barnes that he will not find what he was looking for.
Searching through the base, Barnes found a bunch of random clothes before he saw the zombified Wanda Maximoff behind the bulletproof glass. Barnes instinctively shot at Maximoff and although the bullets did not penetrate the glass, Barnes was warned not to enrage her. Walking towards the voice, Barnes suddenly found T'Challa lying on the hospital bed with an amputated leg. T'Challa told Barnes that they did not have much time and they needed to run as fast as they could, so Barnes carried him out of the wing. As they reached the others, T'Challa explained that it was all a trap and Vision kidnapped him in San Francisco, feeding his leg to Maximoff.
Holding Vision at gunpoint, Barnes stated that Vision was using the beacon to lure the survivors into the base and feeding their flesh to Maximoff, whom he failed to cure. Before Okoye attempted to attack Vision, Barnes and others saw that Maximoff broke through her cell and walked towards them. Maximoff killed Kurt Goreshter, before Barnes and Peter Parker tried to suppress her, although it was for naught. Vision then destroyed the facility's wall to let the group escape from Maximoff, but she still managed to infect Okoye before Vision buried the facility with Maximoff underneath the rubbles.
Vision then gave the Stone to Bruce Banner so they could use it to end the zombie outbreak, which destroyed him and allowed the zombie horde to enter the facility's grounds. Maximoff managed to get through the rubble, so Barnes opened fire to distract her, telling Banner and the others to run. Barnes then continued attacking Maximoff, but she effortlessly reflected the bullets back at him, which he then deflected with the shield. Devastated by seeing Vision's lifeless body, Maximoff grabbed Barnes with her psionic powers and threw him far away so he could not hinder her.[2]
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Artificially Enhanced Physiology: Barnes was one of the recipients of the Super Soldier Serum. Like Steve Rogers, he too has early levels of superhuman conditioning, due to his enhanced physiology. He was also equipped with a vibranium arm capable of deflecting bullets.
- Enhanced Strength: As a result of the Super Soldier Serum, Barnes' strength was greatly enhanced to the point where he could contend with his best friend, a zombified Super Soldier.
- Enhanced Durability: Winter Soldier's bones and muscles are denser and more resilient than a normal human's.
- Enhanced Speed: Winter Soldier's speed is tremendously enhanced beyond the peak of human potential, moving into the early levels of superhuman condition.
- Enhanced Agility: Winter Soldier's enhanced agility surpasses that of normal human capabilities, surpassing even Olympic gold medalists.
- Enhanced Stamina: Winter Soldier's musculature produces far fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of an ordinary human, allowing him to exert himself at peak capacity for hours before tiring.
- Enhanced Reflexes: Winter Soldier's reflexes are enhanced. His reflexes are responsive enough to catch Captain America's shield being thrown at him at a high velocity.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Winter Soldier's body is able to heal with extraordinary speed and efficiency, at a rate well beyond that of a regular human being, however he is unable to regenerate missing limbs.
- Longevity: As a result of the Super Soldier Serum, Barnes ages at a much slower rate than the normal human.
- Cybernetic Enhancement: Barnes lost his left arm and had it replaced with a cybernetic one. Winter Soldier's cybernetic arm is incredibly resistant to physical damage as it is made out of vibranium, as well as the benefit of being vibration absorbent.
- Superhuman Strength: Barnes' metal arm also grants him superhuman levels of strength, enough to hold a fully grown man like Kurt Goreshter off the ground, throw a zombified Sharon Carter away with ease and he almost punched Rogers' lower jaw off. He even cut him in half by throwing his shield back at him.
