"I keep this with me. It's to remind myself of where I came from and what I had to do to get there."
Wilson Fisk to Maya Lopez[src]

Wilson Fisk's Hammer is a hammer owned by Wilson Fisk, which he used to murder his father.

History[]

Murder of Bill Fisk[]

Bill is Killed

Wilson Fisk hits his father with the hammer

"When I was a boy, I beat my father's skull in with a hammer."
Wilson Fisk to Benjamin Poindexter[src]

Witnessing Bill Fisk abusing Marlene Fisk, Wilson Fisk was unable to take it any longer and grabbed the hammer that Bill previously used to make his campaign signs. Bill only scoffed, certain that Wilson was too weak to do anything and turned away, only for Wilson to hit him in the head with the hammer. As Bill collapsed on the floor, Wilson proceeded to smash his skull several times, before Marlene stopped him, now that Bill was already dead.[1] Marlene and Wilson then proceeded to dispose of Bill's body, while Marlene kept the hammer as a memento.[2]

Returned to Wilson Fisk[]

Fisk holding the hammer

Wilson Fisk offers the hammer to Maya Lopez

"Among her effects was a shoebox with my name on it. A keepsake box of sorts. It was full of happy relics from my life. The gifts that I made her when I was young. The odd news clipping. And the hammer. The instrument of my father's death."
Wilson Fisk to Benjamin Poindexter[src]

Decades later, while Wilson Fisk was serving his sentence in Rikers Island, his mother passed away and some of her belongings were given to him. Among them, was a shoebox with Fisk's name on it, which contained some memorabilia of their life, as well as the hammer. Upon finding it, Fisk realized that despite everything, his mother was always proud of what he did to protect her.[2] Being confronted by Maya Lopez, Fisk showed her the hammer and offered her to kill him, just like Fisk killed his own father, so both of them could be free. Lopez held the hammer for a few moments of hesitation, but eventually put it back in its box.[3]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • When asked about the hammer's different design in Echo compared to that of Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio stated that those types of changes can be attributed to the different kinds of creatives that work on each project, which leads to some stuff changing "a bit from project to project."[4]
