- "So that's what it means to be a witch? Killing people to serve your own agenda? No. Not for me."
- ―Billy Maximoff to Agatha Harkness[src]
William "Billy" Maximoff is the son of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, and the younger twin brother of Tommy Maximoff. Created by Wanda through her Chaos Magic, Maximoff was born and raised within the Westview Anomaly, where he and his brother were rapidly aged up, and Maximoff was bestowed with the ability to read minds as well as his mother's Chaos Magic. Maximoff and his brother were briefly kidnapped by the witch Agatha Harkness, but were freed by their mother, and the twins participated in the Battle of Westview, defeating S.W.O.R.D. agents. Following the battle, Wanda chose to dispel the Westview Anomaly, which resulted in the twins' bodies dematerializing. In an attempt to save himself and Tommy, Maximoff used his magic to remove their souls before they could be deleted. Maximoff then transferred his soul into the recently deceased body of William Kaplan. Maximoff, who became amnesiac, then lived for three years as William Kaplan.
In 2026, having studied witchcraft, he realized his true identity and sought to find Tommy. Reuniting with Harkness, Maximoff unknowingly used his Chaos Magic to create the fabled Witches' Road and endured trials as a member of Harkness' new coven. With Harkness' help, Maximoff regained some of his memories, located Tommy's soul, and transferred it into another dying boy's body. The completion of the Road allowed Maximoff to harness the full extent of his power and he embraced the moniker of Wiccan. Maximoff then arrived to save Harkness from Death, although the battle ended with Harkness' death. She then returned as a ghost to serve as Maximoff's spirit guide, and the pair set off to find Tommy.
Biography
Prophesied
Billy, along with his mother, were prophesied to come into existence by Chthon due to their powerful magical abilities. A statue of Billy was put up in the Darkhold Castle.[10]
Westview Anomaly
Created by Wanda Maximoff
- "There's another baby coming!"
"Billy?!" - ―Vision and Wanda Maximoff[src]
Billy Maximoff was created by Wanda Maximoff using her Chaos Magic. Following an unnaturally fast pregnancy, he was born shortly after his twin brother Tommy to their parents, Wanda and Vision, in their Westview house. Upon being checked over by Dr. Stan Nielson, the newborn twins were put to bed as Wanda and Monica Rambeau watched over them. Having reminisced about her own twin brother, Wanda sung them a Sokovian Lullaby to get them to settle. When Geraldine recognized the name "Pietro", she enquired about Wanda's history with Ultron. Becoming more and more aggravated, Wanda interrogated Geraldine about how she knew Pietro. In response to the adults' confrontation, Maximoff and Tommy started to cry until Wanda used her powers to eject Geraldine from Westview. Maximoff and Tommy calmed down again once Wanda returned to them in their crib.[1][8]
Growing Up Fast
Shortly after Maximoff and Tommy were born, Wanda Maximoff and Vision grew increasingly frustrated as the twins refused to sleep and instead were crying. As Wanda and Vision were attempting to get their newborn children to sleep, Agnes walked into the house. She offered to take care of the babies for them to relieve some of their stress. Eventually, the exhausted parents noticed that the children were quiet, but soon realized they were not in their cribs. They soon realized that the twins’ ages had accelerated and that they had magically grown from newborns to five-year-olds.
Later, Maximoff and his brother found a stray dog in their street, and brought him to their kitchen, intending to bathe him so their mother would let them keep him. When Wanda discovered the dog, she warned them that taking care of a dog was a huge responsibility. Vision later walked in as well, and so did Agnes, carrying a doghouse for the new family pet, whom they named Sparky. However, when Vision insisted that the twins were not old enough for a dog, Maximoff and Tommy looked at each other mischievously. They then aged themselves once more, this time to ten-year-olds.
Later that day, Maximoff trained Sparky to do tricks and fed him treats. When Tommy insisted that they go to show their father, Wanda informed them that he was at work. The twins found this confusing as it was a Saturday, so he wasn't supposed to be working. Wanda told them he needed a distraction. However, Maximoff believed that he needed a distraction from them. Wanda quickly explained that that wasn't the case, and said to them that while he and Tommy would argue at time, they would always be brothers. Tommy asked if Wanda had a brother, and Wanda said that she did, but that he was far away from here. The twins and their mother would then be distracted by Sparky running to the door, something attracting his attention. As Wanda went outside to investigate, she opened the door only for Sparky to run away, which caught Maximoff and Tommy's attention. Maximoff and Tommy then went outside to find Sparky while accompanying their mother.
Shortly after, Wanda, Maximoff and Tommy were walking around their street looking for Sparky, who had run away earlier. They soon were approached by Agnes, who was holding Sparky in a blanket, and she informed Maximoff and Tommy that he had died. The twins were shocked and devastated, and attempted to again age themselves; however, Wanda stopped them before they could do anything. They begged for Wanda to resurrect Sparky; however, Wanda insisted she couldn't do such a thing. Vision arrived soon after and saw that Sparky had died, and comforted his sons.[2]
First Halloween
- "I hear Dad in my head. He's in trouble."
- ―Billy Maximoff to Wanda Maximoff[src]
The next day, Maximoff got dressed into his Halloween costume and talked about Halloween while getting video-taped. He then joined Tommy in pranking "Pietro Maximoff", who was lying on the couch. Shortly, Wanda Maximoff walked down the stairs, in her costume, and then greeted Vision who joined them in his costume. Maximoff then watched as "Pietro" whisked Tommy away and then returned wearing matching costumes and hairstyles.
Maximoff then enjoyed the Halloween festivities with Tommy and "Pietro". Later that evening, Maximoff and Tommy approached Wanda and showed her their newfound powers. Maximoff was able to telepathically move objects, like his mother. Maximoff and Tommy then left to get candy at the end of the street, before returning to the main square. Maximoff then used his powers to halt an excited Tommy, as he used his mind to see Vision in distress outside next to S.W.O.R.D. agents, and immediately rushed to inform Wanda. Maximoff then watched in shock when Wanda used her powers to blast "Pietro" into a haystack.[11]
Abducted by Agatha Harkness
- "Mom, help!"
- ―Billy Maximoff to Wanda Maximoff[src]
The next morning, Maximoff and Tommy played video games in the living room, while waiting for their mother to wake up. However, their games began switching throughout different time periods. Confused, Maximoff and Tommy went up to Wanda's bedroom and asked her what was happening. However, Wanda didn't want to be bothered and told them she wanted to sleep. Maximoff then told her that he could hear voices in his head, meaning that he could hear the other Westview citizens.
Maximoff and Tommy then returned downstairs and waited for Wanda. When she came down, she told them to stay away from "Pietro" and that Vision would return when he was ready. She then began to have a mental breakdown, confusing Maximoff and Tommy.
After Wanda sat down with them, Agnes arrived and walked inside. Seeing that Wanda was stressed out, she then offered to watch Maximoff and Tommy at her house while Wanda got feeling better. Wanda agreed and Maximoff and Tommy left with Agnes.
After being taken to Agnes' house, Maximoff and Tommy sat down on the couch in the living room and Maximoff played with Señor Scratchy, who laid in his lap. When Agnes joined them on the couch, Maximoff told her that she was silent and that he couldn't hear her thoughts. Agnes then reassured them that their mother would be fine. Agnes then made Maximoff and Tommy sandwiches and turned on the television for them, before locking them up in her witch lair.[12]
Maximoff and Tommy were then brought out to the street by Agatha Harkness and restrained by her magic, causing them to choke. They then cried out when they saw Wanda run out and try to rescue them.[13] After Harkness declared Wanda the "Scarlet Witch", Wanda blasted Harkness away, allowing Maximoff and Tommy to run into their house.[14]
Battle of Westview
- "Boys, handle the military. Mommy will be right back."
- ―Wanda Maximoff to Billy Maximoff and Tommy Maximoff[src]
Inside the house, Maximoff saw a vision of Wanda in the Westview town square and told Tommy that she needed help. After running to the town square, however, Maximoff and Tommy fell to the ground and began to disappear as Wanda was getting rid of the Hex. When Wanda saw this, she stopped and embraced Maximoff, Tommy, and Vision.
Wanda then put a force field around them as Agatha Harkness tried to shoot them with her powers. After Harkness had absorbed Wanda's powers, S.W.O.R.D. agents in Humvees arrived, followed by White Vision. Wanda told Maximoff and Tommy to handle the agents while she dealt with Harkness. Maximoff then used his powers to mind control the agents, while Tommy sped around and took some of the agents' belongings. Maximoff then watched as Tyler Hayward stepped out of his Humvee and aimed at them with his gun. However, they were saved by Monica Rambeau.
Rambeau used her new powers to absorb the bullets, but when she missed one, Maximoff stopped the bullet and threw it to the ground. Hayward, enraged, hopped into another Humvee and prepared to ram them, but was ultimately prevented from doing so. Maximoff then told Rambeau that he liked her powers. They then ran over to meet with Vision, and then watched as Wanda fought Harkness in the sky. Maximoff then reunited with Wanda, having embraced her role as the Scarlet Witch, and watched as she transformed Harkness back into "Agnes".[14]
Dissolution of the Hex
- "It's nice. That feeling when your body knows it's safe."
"Breathe with him. Breathe."
"The sound of him. It stops because everything else does."
"It's your mother folding her world." - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Maximoff then left the town square with his family and returned home. There, Wanda and Vision tucked Maximoff and Tommy into their beds and bid them good night. Maximoff then smiled at his mother as she thanked him and Tommy for making her a mother. As she left their bedroom, the Hex, which was being dispelled, began to work its way towards their family home.[14] Maximoff was about to go to sleep, and noted how quickly his brother had fallen asleep and focused on Tommy's breathing. However, Maximoff then noticed he could no longer hear his surroundings, including Tommy's breathing, due to the Hex dissolving. Using his mind-reading ability, Maximoff overheard his parents' last words with each other. In a desperate bid to save himself and his brother, Maximoff's magic removed their souls from their bodies.[15]
Taking Over William Kaplan
Transferring His Soul
- "You survived like witches have been doing for centuries. You saw an opportunity, an empty vessel, and you moved in. So you broke the rules. Big deal. That's what kept you alive."
- ―Agatha Harkness to Billy Maximoff[src]
As Scarlet Witch was terminating the Westview Anomaly, the Kaplan family was driving home. Rebecca Kaplan became distracted by the Hex and drove into a ditch, and her thirteen year old son William took the full force as they smashed into a tree, subsequently cracking his head on the window. As William's heart stopped beating,[3] Maximoff, whose corporeal form was disappearing due to the Westview Anomaly being dispelled, transferred his soul into the newly deceased body,[16] which had an existing sigil on it, making it so no witch could know his name. He then woke up yelling for Tommy. However, he had been rendered with amnesia. With the help of Officer Alice Wu-Gulliver, he was taken to the hospital.[3]
Amnesia
- "It's fine. Just please don't fight."
"What do you mean?"
"We're not fighting." - ―"William Kaplan", Rebecca Kaplan, and Jeff Kaplan[src]
He then looked at the glass and saw what he looked like, and did not seem to recognize his appearance. Days later in the Eastview General Hospital, he was shocked to realize he had the ability to read minds and listened to Rebecca and Jeff Kaplan talking with the doctor about his amnesia.
Using it again once his parents walked in, he heard what the Kaplans were thinking. He then asked them not to fight, which they said they were not. Rebecca then talked about what the doctor said, stating that the amnesia would just need time to resolve itself on its own, and that he was to be discharged by the next day.[3]
Accepting a New Identity
- "My name is William Kaplan. I'm William Kaplan. I am William Kaplan."
- ―William Kaplan[src]
The next day, the family arrived home. Entering the unfamiliar domicile, he looked around and saw the family photos. He then saw himself in the mirror again. Suddenly, Greg came in barking at him which Rebecca chalked up as the smell from the hospital.
He then used his mind-reading powers and listened to the Kaplans being worried. He listened some more as he heard his parents just wanting his old self back. As these voices became overwhelming, he lashed out, yelling at them to stop worrying. Realizing what he had done, he apologized and asked to see his room. He then said they could have dinner when he came back down. He then entered "his" room and looked around. He saw the many posters on the walls and ceiling indicating a love for magic. He then walked towards the mirror and saw his reflection. Deciding to embrace the identity of his new life, he told himself that his name was William Kaplan.[3]
Fascination with Magic
- "I bid on a limited edition signed LP of the Ballad, but it cost more than I make in a whole summer at the Hokey Pokey Bowl."
- ―Billy Maximoff[src]
Kaplan continued has fascination with magic and became a fan of Lorna Wu and the Coral Shore. He tried to get a signed LP of the Ballad of the Witches' Road, but it cost more than what he earned at his job, the Hokey Pokey Bowl.[6]
Discovering His Past
Confession to Eddie
- "I do have one question."
"Just one?"
"If you're not William Kaplan, who are you?" - ―Eddie and William Kaplan[src]
By 2026, Kaplan met Eddie, who soon became his boyfriend. However, he still wondered about his past before the crash as he still suffered from amnesia. Therefore, he held onto the sigil that he found in his pocket before the crash. One night, Kaplan was on a date with Eddie when Eddie brought up the sigil. The two then started kissing until Kaplan used his powers and heard that Eddie wanted to confess his love.
Kaplan then backed away and apologized, saying he needed to tell Eddie something, although Eddie said that he had something to say too. Kaplan then started talking about the crash and stated that he died that night and when he came back he was different. He confessed he was not entirely William Kaplan. He informed Eddie that he did not remember anything from prior to the accident and only pretended to so his parents would not worry. He added that nothing in his life was normal until he met Eddie and he loved Eddie as well. Upon sharing a tender moment and exchange of romantic affirmations, Eddie then asked who he was if he was not William Kaplan.[3]
Research
Kaplan brought Eddie to his room to show his research on his past. However, Kaplan noted that Eddie needed to put his jacket back on because his physique was distracting. Kaplan talked about the Westview Anomaly, which Eddie believed to be an Avengers practice gone wrong. Kaplan called him adorably trusting. He then opened his computer, only to play a video from Jennifer Kale. Kaplan exited that video and brought up a video of the Hex.
During the video, Kaplan paused on a frame to reveal there were runes in the sky, meaning a witch had cast it. Kaplan then noted that he was going to meet with someone the next day who had information about the Hex. Upon hearing he found this man on Reddit, Eddie turned the previous mockery around, calling Kaplan adorably trusting.[3]
Speaking with Ralph Bohner
- "Please don't ask about Agatha Harkness. Please don't ask about Agatha Harkness."
"What do you know about Agatha Harkness?" - ―Ralph Bohner and William Kaplan[src]
The next day in a parking garage, Kaplan and Eddie waited for the man to emerge. They then saw him as he blocked out secruity cameras. Although Eddie got worried, Kaplan jumped out to met him. Upon confirmation of their identities, the man turned around to face Kaplan, saying to call him Ralph Bohner. Bohner then corrected himself, stating his alias, Randall, before realizing he messed it up. Bohner then checked for wires as he was untrusting.
Bohner then yelled at them to get down when a noise startled him. Kaplan asked Bohner to start with what he remembered. Bohner revealed he remembered everything and that Wanda Maximoff had the entire town acting out a sitcom. Kaplan asked if it changed Bohner, could he do "stuff", referring to powers. Bohner stated that he woke up every night screaming. Kaplan then listened to Bohner's thoughts as he did not want Kaplan to ask about Agatha Harkness.
Naturally, Kaplan did ask about her, angering Bohner. Bohner then took out witch repellent and sprayed the two teens before remarking a ritual to protect himself. Bohner then went to leave until he turned around and decided to talk more for extra money. Among other things, Bohner stated he was a terrible influence on Maximoff's kids, Billy and Tommy Maximoff. Upon hearing the name Tommy, Kaplan remembered the name. Bohner then revealed Tommy was a speedster and Billy could read minds. Kaplan then asked what happened to them and Bohner revealed they simply disappeared. Finally, Bohner revealed that Harkness still lived in Westview under a spell.[3]
Witch Research
- "Release spell. Requires an important personal item."
- ―William Kaplan[src]
Kaplan returned home to hear his father ask where Eddie was. Kaplan said he went home. Kaplan then went up to his room to finish research on his past. During the research, Kaplan listed to Lorna Wu and the Coral Shore's rendition of the Ballad of the Witches' Road and got the idea of researching Agatha Harkness. Upon doing so, he decided to go to Westview and release her from her spell. In order to do so, he needed a personal item of hers.[3]
A New Quest
Saving Agatha Harkness
- "See, I feel like you've typecast me as the mouthy teen who didn't actually kill the victim but is guilty of some other B-story crime. Well, that couldn't be farther from the truth."
- ―William Kaplan to "Agnes O'Connor"[src]
Kaplan arrived in Westview and looked at a text from Eddie, who signed it with a black heart.[3] Kaplan then broke into Agatha Harkness' House and found her locket, which he was going to use as the personal item. However, he toppled over a lamp, causing it to crash. Harkness then chased Kaplan down the street until he was hit by Sharon Davis, who was merely opening her door.
Now captured, Harkness interrogated Kaplan, believing herself to be a detective while under her spell. Kaplan tried to explain the situation, but everything he said was becoming filtered through the spell, leading Harkness to dramatically call him a loser. She then placed down photos of what she believed to be a corpse on the table. Kaplan simply said they were just daisies. Suddenly, the spell started breaking apart. Seeing an opportunity, Kaplan started reciting his spell until Harkness got him to stop by tying him up. She then threw Kaplan into the closet. Later on, a freed Harkness opened the door to find Kaplan still there.[3][5]
Teaming Up
- "My name is William Kaplan."
"Say again."
"I'm Billy Maximoff." - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Kaplan inched out of the closet to find Agatha Harkness frantically trying to find items. Kaplan then started speaking through his duct tape, making Harkness rip it off. Kaplan then asked for her to take him down the Witches' Road. Harkness refused because of the consequences and pure disinterest. Trying to appeal, Kaplan talked about how much he knew of Harkness and talked about freeing her. She got interested hearing that he broke a spell cast by Scarlet Witch.
Harkness still wanted to leave. However, she stopped when Kaplan brought up the Salem Seven and how they were coming for her. Harkness picked up her locket and turned around, asking Kaplan who he was.[6] Kaplan stated he was "William Kaplan",[3] but a sigil appeared on his mouth that he could not perceive, preventing her from hearing him.[6] She asked again, and he changed his answer to "Billy Maximoff",[3] although she still could not hear it. Harkness became intrigued and he asked why. Harkness did not clarify and walked away.[6]
Finding a Coven
- "So, with a Covenstead, it's unlikely we'll find witches as high-profile as you."
"Yeah, there's no such thing, Teen." - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Agatha Harkness gave Maximoff a pair of scissors to cut himself out and said he was driving. Maximoff chased after Harkness as she asked what he knew about covens. Maximoff replied with his knowledge before stopping to excitedly ask if she was bringing him to her coven. Harkness told him they were all dead. However, they do need a coven to access the road. They then stopped in front of an empty lot. As Harkness looked at it, Maximoff told her his car was to the side.
On the way out of Westview, Maximoff was called by Eddie. However, Maximoff declined, remarking that he gets worried. He then asked how they will find the coven, to where Harkness quoted that wherever they go, a coven there shall be. She then clarified, saying that within a three mile radius, they should find witches. Maximoff asked her to write that down in his book, but she ignored him by throwing the pen out of the window.
Maximoff joked that they would not find witches as high profile as Harkness. Harkness agreed, saying there were no such thing. She then referred to him as "Teen". The two then arrived at Madame Calderu's Psychic Readings. Maximoff asked if they really knew if there was a witch there. Harkness joked that she would no the secret handshake, but clarified they did not when she saw Maximoff did not understand the joke. Maximoff simply stated his optimism.[6]
Recruiting Lilia Calderu
- "Who is this child?"
"My pet. This is my pet. Say hi, pet." - ―Lilia Calderu and Agatha Harkness[src]
Upon being greeted by Lilia Calderu, Agatha Harkness started her story of needing a assistance. She then covered Maximoff's mouth, saying that he was her son "Beauford" and he had social anxiety, making him not talk. Additionally, she claimed his father passed away. Calderu allowed them to have a seat. Forced by Harkness, Maximoff paid the price and the reading got started. However, Calderu saw through Harkness' charade and started being over dramatic with her reading.
Uninterested, Harkness turned to leave, only for Calderu to bring up her last three years being under Wanda Maximoff's spell. Calderu thenm stated she was not interested, exciting Maximoff. Breaking her masquerade, Harkness followed Calderu into the back room, stating she had not heard the pitch. Calderu said she did not need to because no witch in her right mind would join Harkness. Suddenly, Calderu started screaming in pain, confusing Maximoff.
Harkness then complimented Calderu on her reading, but Calderu said she was not reading fortunes but reading reputation. The two began bickering, with Harkness stating her age as four-hundred fifty, amazing Maximoff. Harkness then stated she was going to walk the Witches' Road. Calderu told her the road was a death wish. Harkness said she had survived. Calderu brought up how she had no power now. Calderu was apalled that she was asked by the most infamous witch on the continent, prompting Maximoff to state there was not one in South America or Europe either.
Calderu then stated how she would steal her power when they make it to the end of the road. Harkness then walked over to Calderu and whispered to her, which Maximoff did not hear. Calderu then used her powers to write down witches for Harkness' coven. Once doing so, she asked Harkness to leave. To Calderu's amazement, her own name was on it. As excited Maximoff then gave Calderu Harkness' address.[6]
Recruiting Jennifer Kale
- "The charge has a surprisingly lenient penalty, just, like, payouts and maybe, like, five years in prison. But 800 counts of it? Starts to get a little life-y!"
- ―Billy Maximoff to Jennifer Kale[src]
Upon walking out of the shop, Maximoff found Agatha Harkness looking off into the distance. He interrupted her to ask who was next on the list. However, Harkness took one look and got annoyed. The two then went to Kale Kare and walked in.
Harkness immediately started mocking Kale. This overdramatic mockery caused Jennifer Kale's customers to leave in disgust. Instead of the foreplay, this time Harkness revealed right away her plan. Harkness tried to convince her by talking about the binding spell on her the past century. Maximoff then chimed in, saying she looked great for her age. The two bickered about their past before Harkness stormed off. Maximoff then took his turn, saying how he loved her Instagram, thanking her for minimizing the size of his pores.
Kale asked who he was, remarking how he could be another child sacrifice, specifically referring to Harkness' past. Maximoff then brought up Kale Kare's legal troubles and how people were getting injured. This intrigued Harkness, who started mocking her again. Kale defended herself, but Maximoff talked about the penalties like five years in prison, but then you add on her eight-hundred counts of it.
Maximoff then joined in mocking her, saying it would not be a problem for a powered witch. This made Kale snap, saying she had tried everything to unbind herself. Maximoff simply said she had tried everything but the Witches' Road. Maximoff then handed her an address and said if she vcalued her freedom, she should join them later that day.[6]
Recruiting Alice Wu-Gulliver
- "You groupies don't get it. It's just a stupid song."
"Um, forty million copies worldwide beg to differ." - ―Alice Wu-Gulliver and Billy Maximoff[src]
On the way out of Kale Kare, Maximoff noted that they had two more names. Agatha Harkness corrected him, saying they had one. Maximoff pointed out that there were four names in total and asked to see the slip. Harkness suddenly ate the slip, not wanting Maximoff to see the last name. They then went to the Westview Shopping Mall. Harkness got a corndog and staked out the next witch.
Maximoff asked if she saw her and Harkness explained she was a blood witch, who is the child of a witch. In this case, the mother is Lorna Wu, which excited Maximoff as he is a fan. He explained the time he bet on a signed LP. Harkness suddenly got disgusted and walked away. They then went into Hot Topic where Maximoff asked about why the daughter of Wu would be in a shopping mall. Harkness explained how Wu was dead and rumor had it she was lost to the Witches' Road. Maximoff found this iconic.
Harkness then handed Maximoff an item and told him to run. Maximoff obliged and ran to the door. He was then tackled by security guard, Alice Wu-Gulliver. Harkness then approached Wu-Gulliver to talk. When her boss came around, Harkness claimed she assaulted Maximoff, causing Wu-Gulliver to get fired. They then followed Wu-Gulliver out and spoke to her. Wu-Gulliver claimed the road was not real. Harkness then tried to convince Wu-Gulliver to join by saying she could find out what happened to Lorna at the end of the road. Wu-Gulliver walked away.[6]
Preparation
- "Well, there was one more name on the coven list. Wasn't there? What was the last name?"
"It wasn't a name. It was a heart. A black heart." - ―Billy Maximoff and Lilia Calderu[src]
On the way back, Maximoff asked Agatha Harkness if two witches were enough and what the drive time was to get to the Witches' Road. Harkness gave Maximoff a look then asked where he was from. Maximoff was delighted for the question and started explaining his upbringing. Once turning back towards Harkness, he saw she was confused. He asked what was wrong, but Harkness just told him to drive faster.
Back at Agatha Harkness' house, Maximoff set up a banner welcoming the coven, annoying Harkness who ripped it down. Suddenly, Jennifer Kale walked in saying to keep it up as it elevated the space. Maximoff then offered her some old granola bars. Although Kale refused, Lilia Calderu walked in and grabbed one. Suddenly, Wu-Gulliver walked in. Maximoff asked how she found the address, but Wu-Gulliver simply said she was an ex-cop.
Harkness then said they should get a move on, but the witches reminded her they needed a green witch. Maximoff then pointed out there was another name on the slip. He asked Calderu what it was. She said it was not a name, but a black heart,[6] which unbeknownst to everyone, referred to Maximoff.[17] Harkness then said she knew who that could be and came back with her neighbor, an old woman who went by Mrs. Hart in the hex. However, Hart stated her name was Sharon Davis. Now in the basement, Maximoff asked when they will start driving. Harkness revealed the Road is not driven to, it is conjured. She then ordered Maximoff to go upstairs and close the windows.[6]
Incoming Threat
- "Agatha! Is this it? Is this the Road? Because we should really, really go, like, right now."
- ―Billy Maximoff to Agatha Harkness[src]
Upon going upstairs, Maximoff saw Agatha Harkness' pet rabbit, Señor Scratchy and picked him up to pet. He soon heard indistinct whispering and walked towards the door to investigate. He slowly walked outside and saw a hooded figure in the distance. The neighbor, John Collins, saw it too and asked if Maximoff was seeing it. Suddenly, the hooded figure split into seven. Maximoff then ran inside and started pushing the couch to the unguarded door for reinforcements.
Maximoff then peered outside and saw that the figures were gone. He then closed the curtains and protected himself, only for smoke to come seeping into the house. Maximoff got up as the figures entered the home, crawling menacingly towards him. Maximoff gasped in horror and ran downstairs. Upon seeing that the Witches' Road had successfully been conjured, Maximoff ran in, saying they had to go. The coven ran in and emerged on the road. Taking it in, they took off their shoes and walked onward.[6]
The Witches' Road
Potions Witch Trial
- "Hey, a bit of advice. Watch your back with Agatha."
"I know how people feel about her."
"Did you know she traded her own child for the Book of the Damned?" - ―Jennifer Kale and Billy Maximoff[src]
Maximoff walked down the Witches' Road with Agatha Harkness and remarked at how it was how he pictured it. Harkness noted that it suited him. Jennifer Kale asked Salem Seven was following them and blamed Harkness. Maximoff spoke up saying that since they were a coven, they shared burdens. Kale then asked if they should call Maximoff's parents. Maximoff stated he was sure they were asleep at the time unless the road resembled night as a "vibe".
As they walked further, they realized that the road would show their greatest fears through trials. Harkness told them that they had to pass the trial with each skill. An annoyed Kale asked how they would do that without power. Maximoff brought up how they could do analog magic. Kale then asked who he was again, still confused. Maximoff stated his name, only to see everyone get taken aback. Lilia Calderu remarked that someone had put a sigil on him.
As they talked, they realized that Sharon Davis had disappeared. Suddenly, cries rang out from a distance. The group ran over and saw Davis being swallowed up by mud. They helped her get out. They then were stopped by a bright light. Looking ahead, they realized that a mansion had been conjured in front of them. Upon entering, they noticed their attire had changed, with Maximoff now sporting a sweater and combed hair.
As Maximoff looked around, he stated that it had middle-aged, second chance at love aesthetic. Suddenly, Davis' voice was heard once again; this time, it was her reaction to the beautiful kitchen before her. On the mantle, Maximoff noticed a letter and took it down. Harkness then took it out of Maximoff's hand before Kale did the same to her. Kale realized it was a riddle. Davis then turned around and noticed a wine bottle behind them.
An oblivious Davis reached over for the bottle, but Alice Wu-Gulliver stopped her because of the danger. Harkness agreed but said they had to drink it or else the trial would not move forward. Harkness asked for a corkscrew and Maximoff walked over to the bar to find one. Kale followed him and decided to give him a talk. She told Maximoff not to trust Harkness and revealed that Harkness had traded her own son for the Darkhold. Maximoff refused to believe her.
Maximoff soon rejoined the group and witnessed them drink the wine, which Maximoff did not do because of his age. Suddenly, a timer started counting down from thirty minutes. The group then sat down as Maximoff tried to make small talk. He asked Wu-Gulliver about her tattoo, but she refused to say where it was from, so Maximoff dropped it.
However, Wu-Gulliver spoke up, saying she got it in Colorado because her mother claimed all of the women in her family were cursed. Maximoff asked how old she was. Wu-Gulliver responded saying she was thirteen. Maximoff noted that a lot happened to him at thirteen as well. Wu-Gulliver smiled and told him she missed the eyeliner, but his hair was cute. Suddenly, Davis spoke and the group realized her face was swelling. They then realized they were all swelling. Kale figured out the wine was poison.
Soon, their faces stopped swelling, making Kale further realize that the poison was Alewife's Revenge. Maximoff decided to jot this down in his spell book. Scared, Harkness started smashing the window until they got her to stop. Maximoff then realized that Harkness did not drink the poison. Harkness continued to refuse, so Maximoff demanded her to. When she still did not budge, Maximoff decided to drink it himself, only for Harkness to tell him not to. She then drank the poison.
As Davis passed out from the poison, Kale started creating the antidote as it was her trial. One of the things Kale needed was frankincense, which Wu-Gulliver and Maximoff went to go get. The duo got to a spa area where Wu-Gulliver concluded there was nothing of use. Maximoff stopped her though, saying he smelled eucalyptus. They then ran to the essential oils only for Wu-Gulliver to get lost behind. He returned only to see a frightened Wu-Gulliver crawling on the ground. He helped her up and they rushed back to Kale.
They gave Kale the ingredients only to notice that the glass that Harkness smashed earlier was losing it's strength and cracking even more. Furthermore, water had surrounded the mansion. They had to work quickly and carried Davis into the kitchen as Kale used the sink as a cauldron. As they put the ingredients in, Kale told Maximoff to stir counter-clockwise, but had to clarify that meant to the left. Suddenly, Harkness started hallucinating and crying. When she came to, they rushed her to put a strand of her hair in the potion.
Once the potion was mixed, Maximoff and the others held hands as Kale explained that once their intentions were aligned, the potion would glow cerulean. Wu-Gulliver noted that it was green and asked if that was the color. Maximoff told her it was blue. They then realized something went wrong. As Kale thought further, she realized she missed a step: they needed the blood of the unpoisoned. Harkness then took a knife and sliced Maximoff's hand, allowing blood to drip into the potion. It soon turned green.
They drank the antidote and felt relief, only to realize the unconscious Davis did not drink the potion. Maximoff grabbed a glass from Harkness and gave it to Wu-Gulliver, who poured it down Davis' throat as the timer turned to zero. The oven then opened up, revealing the exit. Water then broke through the glass, flooding the place. The group tried to get Davis into the oven, only for Harkness to tell them to leave her. Maximoff refused, saying they could not leave people behind. They then shoved her through and made their exit in the nick of time.[18]
Mourning Sharon Davis
- "It's everybody's fault. We were supposed to look out for each other, but we didn't. That was our fatal mistake."
- ―Billy Maximoff[src]
Upon leaving, Maximoff realized that Sharon Davis was dead.[18] Maximoff began digging a grave for Davis and overheard Agatha Harkness tell Davis' corpse that she did not think she had it in her. Maximoff asked what she meant, but Harkness just winked at him. Alice Wu-Gulliver then came over and started helping. Harkness then pushed them to get going, but nobody listened to her. As the group bickered, they started arguing about who was at fault. Maximoff spoke up and said it was all of their faults because they were supposed to look out for each other.
Maximoff remarked about how he wanted to go home, but they knew they could not. Therefore, they decided to summon a new green witch. Maximoff came in handy with his spellbook, and together, they performed the ritual before waiting. Suddenly, a being emerged from Davis' grave; out came a woman, Rio Vidal. Maximoff then followed Harkness, who was storming off, and asked her if she wanted to talk about Vidal, who was back from before, but Harkness ignored him.[19]
Protection Witch Trial
Agatha Harkness' Coven arrived at the Witches' Road Recording Studio, which Alice Wu-Gulliver initially refused to enter. However, when she walked the other way, the studio simply conjured itself in front of them again. Upon getting to the door, Harkness remarked how the moon symbol on the door was the waxing phase which was also the fire phase. They entered and noticed how their attire changed again. Maximoff then looked for clues.
Maximoff found a record player that had a note saying "play me". Maximoff obliged, which started a demonic song that was playing. They realized that the song was playing backwards. Agatha Harkness soon smashed it to pieces. As everything settled, Lilia Calderu realized they had been cursed. Suddenly, a metronome started playing. Just as Maximoff stated that nothing seemed to be happening, Calderu fell to the ground in agony as she started burning. Wu-Gulliver used her protection magic to draw a circle around Calderu, saving her.
Maximoff brought up reasoning with the witch who cast the spell, but Harkness told him that a curse cannot be "reeled back in". Calderu said that the only way to end a curse is to face it. Suddenly, Jennifer Kale started burning up, only for Wu-Gulliver to save her. In panic, they checked the smashed record and figured out it was Lorna Wu's rendition of the Ballad of the Witches' Road. Harkness then realized it was Wu-Gulliver's family curse.
Suddenly, the curse reached Maximoff and threw him backwards into a window. The glass pierced Maximoff's side, but he did not tell this to the rest of the coven and assured everyone he was okay. Soon, the group realized that Wu's ballad was a protection spell for Wu-Gulliver and they had to play it in order to face the curse. Maximoff then started on the guitar as he knew the instrument.
They began playing the song and Maximoff helped with his guitar, although he began hunching forward as the glass started giving him immense pain. Eventually, the curse revealed itself, allowing Wu-Gulliver to lure it towards her and kill it. As the commotion stopped, Maximoff cheered weakly, only to collapse from his injury and pass out.
Maximoff woke up later on the Witches' Road in a hut. He saw Harkness by his side and immediately asked if she put the sigil on him. Harkness told him she did not, but even if that were the case, the witch that cast it could not remember either. He asked how to lift it, but Harkness told him sigils could not be lifted, only destroyed. It becomes destroyed when it is no longer needed. Maximoff then asked if Harkness killed her son. Harkness' face turned cold and she got up and walked away without another sound.[19]
Ambush on Agatha Harkness' Coven
- "What about a hexenbesen?"
- ―Billy Maximoff[src]
Agatha Harkness' Coven woke up from their slumber to Lilia Calderu's gasp. She had a vision and explained that the Salem Seven were coming. They ran away only to hear the commotion from all directions. Maximoff then stated his idea to use broomsticks, which everyone immediately hated, mostly because of the prejudice connotations that came with it. Upon hearing more noises, they agreed; however, not without a stern talking to by Calderu.
Maximoff was then tapped on the shoulder by Alice Wu-Gulliver, who gave him a broom and said he needed to do the same for her. Maximoff excitedly went to grab one, but saw an Owl ahead. This Owl was a member of the Salem Seven and attacked. Wu-Gulliver was able to fend her off and performed the ritual quickly with Maximoff. They then took off on their brooms despite Maximoff not knowing how. Now up in the air, the group marveled at the sight, only for the Witches' Road to begin pulling them back down. The crew crashed onto the road and through a member of the Salem Seven named Vertigo. They then ran into the Witches' Road Cabin for the next trial.[20]
Spirit Witch Trial
- "It's too late."
"No, it's not! There's a spell, there's always a spell! Alice, please wake up. Alice! Alice! Come on, Alice. Come on." - ―Lilia Calderu and Billy Maximoff[src]
Upon entering the Witches' Road Cabin, Maximoff's attire changed to a stereotypical teenager sleepover outfit. Maximoff then looked around, realizing he lost his spell book. He soon got over it and looked around the room. He then asked whose trial it was. They realized it was Agatha Harkness' because of the blood moon which is where the veil is thinnest, so they could talk to the dead.
Maximoff then remarked at how he thought that was Lilia Calderu's mastery, but Calderu said it was a common misconception. Suddenly, a board game flew off of the shelf. Maximoff turned it over, revealing it was Ouija. Additionally, a timer for thirty minutes went off again. They set it up and Maximoff started reading out the rules, with one being to not taunt the spirits. Maximoff made sure Harkness understood this rule. Upon asking who the spirit was, the board spelled out "MRS. HART". Suddenly, the board shifted, forcing Calderu's hands off of it, meaning a spirit were to be released.
Maximoff watched as Davis became manifested through Harkness, who started talking as if she were Davis. Calderu tried to apologize, but Alice Wu-Gulliver told her it was not Mrs. Hart. Maximoff agreed, saying it was "Sharon Davis". Jennifer Kale clarified, saying it was neither because Harkness was just playing around. Rio Vidal then called Harkness scared, making Harkness get serious and sit back down. They then asked who the real spirit was, which stated they were "DEATH". This made Vidal laugh out loud. Maximoff reminded them they were not supposed to ask about death.
They then asked what "DEATH" wanted. They board soon spelled out "Punish Agatha". The board then spelled out "AGATHA" many times. In fear, Harkness took her hands of the planchet, making the spirit actually come out. The spirit started howling, causing everyone to cover their ears. Wu-Gulliver asked what it wanted. Kale said it wanted to punish Harkness. The howling then stopped. They group realized they needed to punish Harkness to pass the trial. Maximoff argued they should not, but their mind was made up. Suddenly, Harkness disappeared.
The group walked cautiously around the room as Maximoff grabbed a flashlight. He then shined it around the room and up to the ceiling. Upon getting to the ceiling, he saw a possessed Harkness. Harkness then jumped down to the ground and chased a scared Maximoff into the corner. Kale then distracted Harkness away from Maximoff. Harkness then attacked Kale until Calderu turned on the lights, causing Harkness to flee.
They started looking around for Harkness and eventually saw a ghost emerging. The ghost revealed itself as Evanora Harkness. An unpossessed Agatha then said hello to her mother. Calderu remarked how Evanora and Agatha have unfinished business. Maximoff decided they should finish it. He asked Evanora what she wanted, to which Evanora demanded they finish the Witches' Road without Agatha. Leaving her with Evanora would be them punishing Agatha.
Agatha then talked to her mother, asking why she hated her. Evanora brutally explained that she was evil and she ought to kill her when she was birthed. Kale then told the group they had to go, despite Maximoff telling her not to go. Kale said there was no flood or fire. The threat is Agatha. Agatha then begged the group to take her with them, which Maximoff wanted and tried to do. However, Evanora possessed Agatha again.
Wu-Gulliver then attacked Evanora with her powers, sending an energy blast to her. This not only awakened Agatha, but caused her to start draining Wu-Gulliver's power for herself. Maximoff yelled at someone to make her stop, but nobody knew what to do. Suddenly, Maximoff noticed the Ouija board moving, meaning there was another spirit. Maximoff asked who it was and it spelt out "NICHOLAS SCRATCH". As the timer dwindled down, Maximoff said the name louder, causing Harkness to stop as Scratch's voice was heard. The door the opened.
Maximoff set the planchet to "GOOD BYE" and ran over to Wu-Gulliver. To his sorrow, Wu-Gulliver's life was drained, killing her and giving Harkness her powers. Harkness approached the corpse, only for Maximoff to yell at her to get back. Maximoff begged Calderu to do something, but she said it was too late. Maximoff did not agree, saying there was always a spell. He went to check his spell book, only to remember it was gone. He then resorted to begging Wu-Gulliver to wake up, but Kale told him it was too late.[20]
Sigil Destroyed
- "He's out there somewhere. I can sense him. I just... can't find him."
"Gosh, you really are a Maximoff. Otherwise, none of this would be nearly as dramatic."
"He's my brother." - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Angry, Maximoff charged after Agatha Harkness, demanding to know why she would kill Alice Wu-Gulliver. Harkness claimed she could not control it, but Maximoff refused to believe this, telling Harkness not to lie to him. Maximoff claimed she wanted Wu-Gulliver's power and that is what it had been about.
Jennifer Kale agreed, saying that it was what all of it was about for any of them. All Lilia Calderu had to say was that death came for them all. A still angry Maximoff asked if that was really what it meant to be a witch, killing people for their own agenda; he defiantly declared that life was not for him. This got Harkness to chuckle a little bit as she leaned closer, asking if Maximoff was sure about that. Getting very serious, Harkness forced Maximoff to look at her as she told him he was so much like his mother.
Maximoff looked at her sternly as she took her hands off his chin and walked away, still grinning. She then turned around, telling him to follow her as she called him her pet. In a fit of rage, Maximoff started controlling Calderu and Kale's minds to attack Harkness. He then had them throw Harkness into a vat of quick-sinking mud and watched as she became engulfed by the substance. Not stopping there, Maximoff threw Calderu and Kale into the mud as well and watched as they struggled and begged to be free. A blue crown then emerged on Maximoff's head.[20]
Maximoff sat by a tree holding the wooden sigil. He then squeezed on it, destroying the sigil and letting it fall from his hand. Suddenly, he heard Harkness' voice from a distance, telling him that was quite the debut. She then mocked his old phrases, mimicking his faked confusion as to what a sigil was and his false craving for power. He corrected himself now, saying power was not what interested him. Harkness told him to continue telling himself that. Maximoff then asked when she figured out his identity.
Harkness said she had a feeling when they first met, because even with a sigil in the way, he and Wanda had the same tell. Maximoff asked what it was and Harkness replied that it was very inconvenient for him. She also did not know for sure until he went mad just moments ago. Harkness soon said that it was nice to see him again, calling him "Billy". Maximoff then said "Billy" then "William" and realized she could hear his identity. Harkness' attention then moved on to Calderu and Kale, not knowing what to say about what Maximoff did. However, she brought up how many people she had killed, which she cannot remember the number of.
Growing angry again, Maximoff assured Harkness he was not like her, but Harkness sarcastically asked herself where she had heard that before. An intrigued Harkness then asked where he came across William Kaplan's body, but Maximoff refused to give details. Harkness understood, telling Maximoff to not feel guilt about what he had done because he survived like witches had been doing for centuries. He survived, which is what makes him special and also makes him a witch.
Harkness then stated that they needed to make it to the end of the Witches' Road, but Maximoff stopped her at "we", saying he did not need her and he did not know if he ever did. Maximoff then charged up his power, only for it not to emerge. This made Harkness start laughing as Maximoff said he could finish the road on his own. Harkness simply said he could not due to the power he could not control without throwing a tantrum. Maximoff yelled that he would figure it out.
Harkness then approached Maximoff, teasing him about what he could want at the end of the road since he already had power. She asked if it was to "find mama". However, she concluded that was not the case because she chose a town of strangers over her own children. She then realized there were two other Maximoffs; Billy had a twin, Tommy. Maximoff confessed that he knew Tommy was out there, but could not find him. Maximoff then told Harkness they would finish the road together, but he did not trust her. Harkness understood and walked forward, saying the last one to the next trial was a nice person. Maximoff remarked that he was not that nice.[3]
Conversation with Agatha
- "Any other queries for your old babysitter? It's the whole reason you bought a ticket to ride, isn't it? I'm your mom's ex-best friend."
"I'll get what I want at the end of the Road. And she's not my mom. I have a mom." - ―Agatha Harkness and Billy Maximoff[src]

Reincarnating Tommy

- ―Billy Maximoff to Agatha Harkness[src]
Maximoff found himself in a body bag and quickly unzipped it, revealing that he was in a morgue. Soon, Agatha Harkness and Jennifer Kale popped out of the wall in drawers. Harkness was able to get out of her bag, but Kale struggled. Maximoff got out of his drawer to let Kale out, but Harkness told him not to, and Kale eventually freed herself. Kale noticed growing lights on the ceiling and suggested to Maximoff that they needed to grow something for the trial.
Maximoff listened as Harkness asked Kale if there was any overlap between Earth magic and Alchemy, to which Kale replied that there was some. However, to Maximoff's disappointment, Kale was bound and could not use her magic. Kale began talking about her past and soon realized that Harkness was the one who bound her. Maximoff angrily asked Harkness if it was true, but Harkness simply said she didn't know it was Kale.
Maximoff then watched as a determined Kale took a clump of Harkness' hair and bound her wrists with it before saying again and again that Harkness had no power over her; Maximoff realized that she was performing an unbinding ritual. Finally, Kale dropped to the ground, and when she rose again, her magic had returned. She then disappeared from the room. In a panic, Maximoff asked where she went, and Harkness responded that the Witches' Road had given her what she was missing.
Harkness then told Maximoff to let her absorb his powers since she had come to the Road for power. Maximoff refused as he believed she would kill him in the process, so Harkness decided to help Maximoff get his brother a body. Sitting down, Harkness told Maximoff to focus on his last moments with Tommy. As Maximoff continued to be guided through the process, he heard Vision and Wanda Maximoff's voices.
Maximoff described his memory, saying he was about to fall asleep when the sound of his brother along with every other sound suddenly ceased. Maximoff was told by Harkness that it was simply Wanda dispelling the Hex and that even though he couldn't hear Tommy, he knew he was close. Harkness told Maximoff that he held Tommy within him but that he could not stay there. Sparks began to fall from the ceiling as Harkness grabbed Maximoff's head and told him to find a place for Tommy.
Maximoff began to see flashes of black and reported to Harkness, who asked him what Tommy would see when he looked down. Maximoff panted that he could not find a body, but Harkness encouraged him enough for Maximoff to see a boy underwater who had fallen victim to a prank in which he was drowned. As he saw the boy convulse and stop moving, Maximoff desperately asked Harkness if he was killing the boy so Tommy could live. However, the boy, now Tommy, then rose from the water, and Maximoff disappeared.[15]

His magic is primarily composed of blue energy, instead of his mother's red. Maximoff can wield Chaos Magic subconsciously without needing constant concentration to sustain the changes he's made. At first, Maximoff had no control over this power; however, with Harkness' help, Maximoff gained more experience in the control of his magic.
- Reality Warping: Like his mother, Maximoff is a being capable of spontaneous creation. He can warp reality at his will and wield his magic subconsciously without needing constant concentration to sustain the changes he's made. - ―Death[src]
- Resurrection: Billy is capable of self-resurrection, giving himself a new life by transferring his soul into a recently deceased body. Death, a cosmic entity of nigh-limitless power, couldn't claim his soul as Maximoff would just continue to reincarnate with each death. His first resurrection was done instinctively as Maximoff had no idea how he did it. With Harkness' help, Maximoff was able to resurrect the disembodied Tommy by guiding his soul into a recently deceased body in a similar manner.
Facilities
- Vision Residence: Billy Maximoff was born in Wanda Maximoff and Vision's house, where he and his brother grew up. Maximoff and Vision raised the twins, who aged themselves up so that they could keep Sparky in the house. They hosted who they believed to be Pietro Maximoff in their house, though Billy got nervous around him. The Maximoffs returned to the Vision residence as the Hex was dissolved, and Billy and Tommy were sent to bed for the last time.
- Kaplan Residence: Maximoff took over the body of William Kaplan, but developed amnesia and therefore did not know who he was. Believing himself to truly be Kaplan, Maximoff lived in his house and bedroom with Rebecca and Jeff Kaplan. Maximoff decorated his room with his interests and investigated the connection between the Kaplan Family Car Crash and the Westview Anomaly from the room. He showed Eddie the findings and researched Agatha Harkness from his bedroom. Maximoff returned home from the Witches' Road, met by concern from his parents. Maximoff looked around his room and saw elements of it which reminded him of the Road, leading him to realize that he was the one who created it. Harkness then appeared in Maximoff's room as a ghost, leaving Maximoff to leave the house again to try to banish Harkness.
- Hokey Pokey Bowl: As William Kaplan, Maximoff worked at the Hokey Pokey Bowl over a summer, hoping to make enough money to buy a record by Lorna Wu and the Coral Shore. However, he did not earn enough.
Prisons
- Agnes O'Connor's House: Maximoff and his brother were brought to "Agnes O'Connor's" house under the guise of being for the purpose of allowing Wanda Maximoff alone time. However, after briefly genuinely taking care of them, "O'Connor" took the two of them hostage and held them prisoner in the basement of the house. O'Connor, whose real name was Agatha Harkness, later took the twins hostage outside of the house. Three years later, Maximoff had amnesia due to the transfer of his soul to William Kaplan's body and returned to the house, finding Harkness under a spell, believing herself to be O'Connor and a detective. Maximoff cast a spell to free Harkness, but it did not take affect right away and "O'Connor" "arrested" Maximoff, shoving him in her closet until the following morning. Maximoff and Harkness organized a coven together, and Maximoff defended the house, summoning a door to the Witches' Road for them to escape. They returned from the Road and fought Death together in Harkness' backyard, and Maximoff then left as the house was crowded. Maximoff returned in an attempt to banish Harkness' ghost, but ultimately reconciled with Harkness and left to find Tommy Maximoff.

Trivia
- In the comics, William Maximoff was created by Wanda Maximoff using pieces of Mephisto's soul. Maximoff eventually ceased to exist, although his soul was reincarnated years later in Billy Kaplan. As a result of having Billy Maximoff's soul, Billy Kaplan had access to his magical, reality-warping powers that he had inherited from Wanda. Kaplan then became a member of the Young Avengers under the name of Asgardian before changing his name to Wiccan.
- Billy Maximoff was named by his father Vision, who named him after William Shakespeare.
- In the comics, he was named after Simon Williams.
- In the comics, Vision's self-constructed son Vin has an obsession with Shakespeare.
- Maximoff's outfit on the Witches' Road has runes that Maximoff stitched himself. Upon conjuring the Wiccan outfit, the runes were transferred over, and served as magical protection. Additionally, the patterns on the suit mimics Scarlet Witch's sleeves while the cape is based on Vision's, serving as a way for Maximoff to have both of his parents with him.[25]
Behind the Scenes
- In the comics, Wiccan is not William "Billy" Maximoff but William "Billy" Kaplan, who had access to the former's powers when Maximoff's soul was reincarnated into his body. However, Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner of Agatha All Along, found the comics history too confusing and decided to simplify the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of events by having William Kaplan die, allowing for Billy Maximoff's soul to migrate into Kaplan's dead body, live life as Kaplan, and eventually become Wiccan.[26][7]
