Brigadier General Whalen is a member of the United States Air Force who was connected to Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S..
Biography[]
Brigadier General Whalen was flown to work by Bonnie Thompson during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, where he saw impressive flying.
Whalen attended the tryouts for the Flying Falcons and was very impressed by the flying demonstrated by Maria Rambeau and Carol Danvers. At the Recognition dinner that year, Whalen found Danvers and Rambeau and complimented Rambeau's flying, asking where she learned the barrel roll. Rambeau revealed that it was Thompson, so Whalen told her about his connection to her. Whalen asked if Thompson also taught Danvers, who clarified that she was taught by her husband, Jack. They joked about the name of Jack's plane, Mr. Goodnight, before Danvers revealed that it was the plane the Thompsons used to teach them, impressing Whalen. After a long pause, Whalen asked if they had considered being test pilots, offering to make a phone call on their behalf before dismissing them.[1]
Whalen's phone call resulted in Danvers and Rambeau working on Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. with Wendy Lawson.[2]
