History

King’s Guards

Shuri & Ramonda Dance

Royal Guards protecting Queen Ramonda and Princess Shuri

In 2016, several Royal Guards were present when T'Challa returned to Wakanda, following his father's death. During his coronation ceremony, the Royal Guard were in attendance to witness him be challenged by M'Baku. T'Challa claimed victory, thus the Royal Guard swore fealty to the then crowned King T'Challa.

During Erik Killmonger's usurpation of the throne through traditional laws, the Royal Guard were bound by those same laws to obey the throne, which Killmonger then sat upon, even if they disagreed with him.[1]

Battle of Mount Bashenga

At the battle on Mount Bashenga, only Royal Guard members loyal to Killmonger were present during the preparations for conquest and went into the fight against T'Challa and the Dora Milaje. However, upon W'Kabi's surrender to Okoye, they, too, stood down to surrender to the Dora Milaje.[1]

The Royal Guard behind their King

In 2018, the Royal Guard stood alongside their King when he greeted members of the Avengers in the Golden City. They later joined the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and the Jabari Tribe on the periphery of the protective dome keeping the spaceships at bay.

Battle of Wakanda

Royal Guard going into battle against the Outriders

Once the siege of Outriders began to break through, their King ordered an opening of a narrow choke point to prevent enemy flanking and they went into battle. While the Royal Guard were able to slay many of the mindless creatures with their Sonic Spears, many were still killed by the Threshers. Other guards were tasked to protect Shuri at the medical center, but were ambushed and defeated by Corvus Glaive, a member of the Black Order.

Soon after the battle ended, half of the Royal Guard disintegrated into dust suddenly.[2]

Battle of Earth

Reinforcements

The Royal Guard join the battle

Five years later, following the Blip, the Royal Guard, along with their restored King and princess, and the other armies, were recruited by the Masters of the Mystic Arts to fight against an alternate Thanos and his alien army. They were transported through Inter-Dimensional Portals to the ruins of the Avengers Compound in New York and participated in the battle. When the battle ended, they returned to Wakanda.[3]
