Biography[]
HYDRA Agent[]
Working with the Malicks[]
- "Your father and I worked together. He was very powerful until he took the coward's way out."
- ―Viola to Freddy Malick[src]
Viola became a HYDRA agent, and previously worked with Freddy Malick's father, before he committed suicide. She had respect for the man.[1] Viola traveled several places, including London, Germany, and Denmark, making errands for HYDRA.[2]
Freddy Malick's Contact[]
- "I have a job for you. A second chance, you could call it. If you can deliver this to the docks, then my employer will reward you. And your family's glory will be restored."
- ―Viola to Freddy Malick[src]
In an alternate 1931, Viola attended a party held by Franklin D. Roosevelt for his presidential campaign. While there, she took note of Alphonso Mackenzie and Deke Shaw running toward where Roosevelt was leaving. She then went to the bar where Freddy Malick was working as a bartender, and told him that she was his contact.
Once they found privacy, Viola and Malick briefly discussed the latter's father and his suicide, and Malick asked why he was needed. Viola handed Malick a vial of fluid, referring to it as the future. Chronicom Hunters who had time-traveled from the future then came and shot Viola, hoping to kill Malick and change the timeline so that S.H.I.E.L.D. would never be founded.
Viola bled and laid on the floor when she was discovered by Phil Coulson, who promised to return when he heard Daisy Johnson struggle with the Hunter in the kitchen. Coulson and Johnson fought off the Chronicoms and retrieved Viola, bringing her to Ernest Koenig's speakeasy, where they laid her down, planning to bring Jemma Simmons to help heal her.[1]
Interrogated by S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
Jemma Simmons eventually arrived and healed Viola, who woke up to find herself in a hidden room in Ernest Koenig's speakeasy, surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. She tried to scream, but the agents restrained her. She kicked over a bottle of alcohol, attracting the attention of Chronicoms, but another New York City Police Department officer told them that Alphonso Mackenzie and Deke Shaw's getaway vehicle had been found. Viola was tied to a chair and interrogated.
She told S.H.I.E.L.D. that Freddy Malick was just a kid making a delivery. However, when Simmons saw her passport and a drop of the vial's contents on Viola's shoe, she took it off the shoe and determined that it was the key ingredient to Super Soldier Serum. S.H.I.E.L.D. demanded to know where Freddy was going, and Viola slipped, allowing Koenig to figure out that the delivery would be sent to Hell's Harbor. Viola assured them that they could only arrive in time by flying, and the Life-Model Decoy of Phil Coulson said that they could fly.[2]
Personality[]
Viola is a very loyal HYDRA agent who consistently traveled the world for the organization. She remained loyal and didn't willingly give up Freddy Malick's location. She is also an empathetic person, as she wanted to give Malick a chance to define himself as his own person, regardless of her opinion of his father.
