"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as the "Temporal Marvels Universe".

"Time is everything. It moves... through each and every one of us. It shapes our... lives. Our... futures. But perhaps we can shape... it."
―Victor Timely[src]

Professor Victor Timely is a scientist and inventor who was given a copy of the Time Variance Authority Official Handbook by Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes when he was a child, allowing him to invent futuristic technology that could not succeed completely due to the limited resources of the 19th Century. During his adulthood, he was encountered by Renslayer and Miss Minutes, who enlightened him with knowledge on the Time Variance Authority itself and intended for him to succeed He Who Remains in ruling the organization. However, Timely soon betrayed the two of them, leading to him being brought to the TVA Office by Loki to repair a fully functional Temporal Loom. After countless failed attempts and deaths undone through Time Slipping, Timely witnessed Loki destroying the Loom and reorganizing the Multiverse for good, allowing him to live to co-author a second edition TVA guidebook with Ouroboros.

Early Life[]

An Unexpected Gift[]

Victor Timely (1868)

Timely discovers the TVA Guidebook

"It was delivered to me... when I was a child. Dropped into my life by some... divine hand."
―Victor Timely to Ravonna Renslayer[src]

In 1868, Victor Timely worked in his house in Chicago on making candles. Suddenly, Timely heard a thud from behind him. Investigating it, Timely noticed a package and opened it. He saw a strange book and started to read it, getting ideas for new inventions.[3] Timely continued to grow up in Chicago, where he learned not to trust people.[1] Using the guidebook, Timely worked to create inventions such as Mechanical Trousers and a Refrigerator Chair. He often thought of his work as a correspondence between himself and the author, Ouroboros. While he did sales in Chicago, he got a professorship and established his laboratory where he lived full time in Wisconsin for the lower taxes. He sold a faulty pair of mechanical trousers to a councilman.[3]

Victor Timely's Temporal Marvel[]

Presenting the Temporal Loom[]

Victor Timely (Loki TV Spot)

Timely demonstrates his machine

"I do not want to light a... city. I aim... to light, to power... the entire planet. So, call it a dream. Fine. Sneer. Laugh it off as pure science fiction. But if it can be dreamed, it can be achieved. Because all science is fiction until it's fact!"
―Victor Timely[src]

Twenty-five years later, during the World's Columbian Exposition, Timely gave a presentation for his prototype of the Temporal Loom. He gave his presentation and talked about the nature of the flow of time. He revealed that he believed time to be the future of energy, and was asked by a man in the crowd what Timely knew about the future. Timely revealed that he knew more than they would believe and explained that he intended to harness energy using the Temporal Loom. He demonstrated the device, claiming it could light all of Chicago. Someone claimed that he would need more to light a city, so Timely declared that his intention was to light the whole Earth. He increased the power of the device, causing sparks of electricity to fly. He welcomed his audience to the future and bowed.

Timely Pays Pennyman

Timely pays Guy Pennyman III

Timely went into the crowd and was greeted by Ravonna Renslayer, asking to talk about his future. Timely agreed, but she was pushed aside by the man who had criticized Timely's knowledge of the future during the show expressing doubts in the loom. Timely explained that it was still a prototype, but that many investors were looking to acquire. The man offered a partnership, but Timely refused to work with a partner and continued through the crowd. Guy Pennyman III offered to buy the machine, so Timely started accepting bids. Pennyman and the other man entered a bidding war, which the other man won. Timely accepted the cash and walked away. He gave part of the money to Pennyman before leaving.[3]

Cornered from All Sides[]

Timely Reasons With Customer

Timely continues his scam

"The concepts are bona fide. I just need the crude technology of this era to catch up with my visionary mind. Do you know?"
"I never doubted it for a second."
"Enlightened fellows never do."
―Victor Timely and Loki[src]

Outside, Timely was again approached by Ravonna Renslayer, asking to talk. A loud noise came from in the building, so Timely moved faster and asked to walk and talk. They were approached by Loki and Mobius M. Mobius, and the two men competed with Renslayer for his attention. A councilman suddenly approached a demanded a refund for the faulty Mechanical Trousers which Timely had sold him, so Timely tried to deny it. He claimed that the trousers were merely a prototype and offered to adjust the setting the following week, which the Councilman accepted.

TimelyHidingFromBaron

Timely hides from the Robber Baron

Loki realized that Timely was a con man, though Timely claimed that his ideas were simply ahead of their time. The Robber Baron suddenly appeared and shouted that Timely's inventions were fake, prompting Timely to run away as the Robber Baron chased and followed him. Timely hid behind a pillar and saw the Ferris wheel, but the Robber Baron found him again. Timely called to Hugo, who gave Timely an orange to throw at the Robber Baron. Timely jumped to the front of the line for the Ferris wheel and rushed into the pod, but crawled out as the Robber Baron and his crew chased him in. The doors closed, and the Robber Baron was stuck as the Ferris wheel lifted up.

Victor Timely Scared

Timely watches Loki and Sylvie Laufeydottir argue

Timely was found by Loki, who complimented his ability to run away. Suddenly, Sylvie Laufeydottir appeared and pointed a sword at him. Loki tried to stop Laufeydottir, who pushed both of them into the capsule of the Ferris wheel. As the door closed, Laufeydottir tried to stab Timely, who got out of the way while Loki pushed her back. Laufeydottir and Loki argued about Laufeydottir's attack and mentioned the Time Variance Authority, which Timely recognized from the book he had received as a child. Laufeydottir telekinetically pinned Timely to the wall as they continued their argument, and Loki eventually freed him. Laufeydottir charged at Timely, but Loki separated them. While Loki and Laufeydottir continued to argue, Timely turned and saw as the Robber Baron noticed him from the next capsule over. As their capsule stopped, Laufeydottir and Loki blasted at each other, sending Loki and Timely flying out one end and Laufeydottir crashing into the other.

Renslayer Timely Flees

Timely escapes with Ravonna Renslayer

Renslayer rushed to Timely's aid and was pursued by the Robber Baron and Laufeydottir. Suddenly, a clock-like figure came out of Renslayer's bag and turned into a large ghost, scaring off the crowd. In the confusion, Timely was able to escape with Renslayer.[3]

TVA Revelation[]

Joining Ravonna Renslayer[]

Timely and Renslayer Talk

Timely learns about his Variant

"A long time ago... far from now... a different time, a version of you created an entity called the Time Variance Authority. But two Variants of the same Norse god murdered him, which resulted in the creation of new timelines, which would each see the rebirth of countless different versions of you."
Ravonna Renslayer to Victor Timely[src]

Timely returned to his apartment with Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes and showed Renslayer the Refrigerator Chair he had developed. Miss Minutes asked if he liked her performance as a ghost, which Timely complimented. Timely asked if Miss Minutes was Renslayer's helper, but the artificial intelligence corrected him and introduced herself. Timely asked what was going on, so Renslayer explained that an alternate version of Timely had created the Time Variance Authority before getting killed. Timely got emotional at the concept of his importance, and Renslayer offered to keep him safe.

Timely Escapes

Timely flees the Robber Baron

Timely asked if they worked for the TVA, but Miss Minutes interrupted and revealed that they worked together at the End of Time before the TVA's existence. Renslayer explained that their Temporal Loom was in trouble and needed him, so Timely noted that it was similar to what Loki said and asked why they were not working with him and Mobius M. Mobius. Miss Minutes revealed that Loki helped kill the Variant of him, which Timely did not believe since Loki protected him. Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door, and Timely announced they needed to leave as the Robber Baron demanded that Timely open the door. Timely refused to leave without his prototype from his lab, so they left out the window. Loki and Mobius suddenly arrived, so Timely and the women hid in a panel in the house until their pursuers left. They then boarded a boat to the lab.

Timely on Boat

Timely talks to Ravonna Renslayer on the S.S. Herron

Renslayer asked what prototype they were getting, but Timely simply said it was the key to understanding and manipulating time. He showed Renslayer his copy of the TVA Guidebook and explained that it was delivered to him as a child, but then realized that Renslayer was the one who delivered it. Miss Minutes cut in and noted that they were following someone else's plan, but Timely thanked Renslayer nonetheless. Timely showed Renslayer a sketch of his Throughput Multiplier and suggested it could help with the Temporal Loom. The pair admired the view, and Timely made a paper flower to give to Renslayer. Renslayer said that she saw who he would become, so Timely took her hand and thanked her. Renslayer expressed hope for their partnership, giving Timely pause.

Miss Minutes with Victor Timely

Timely betrays Ravonna Renslayer

As Renslayer fell asleep, Miss Minutes convinced him that Renslayer was looking for a partnership. Timely put Renslayer in a lifeboat and cast it out, looking over the rail while Miss Minutes reminded him that he had to cast her out.[3]

Pleading for His Life[]

Timely Victor

Timely retrieves his prototype

"That isn't me. That... You don't know me. You don't know the heart... the heart I have beating in my chest. I can make my own choices. I'm not the man you think I am."
―Victor Timely to Sylvie Laufeydottir[src]

Timely and Miss Minutes reached his lab, and Timely collected his notes as Miss Minutes admired the lab. Timely took his prototype and prepared to leave, but Miss Minutes asked why he was rushing. Timely noted they needed to return to the Time Variance Authority, but Miss Minutes said they should lay low due to the commotion caused at the World's Columbian Exposition. Timely hesitantly sat down as Miss Minutes expressed worry that he liked Ravonna Renslayer more than her and changed back to her orange display. Miss Minutes asked if she was in his journal, and Timely said that while there was not one yet, he was certain there would be.

Victor Turns Off Miss Minutes

Timely deactivates Miss Minutes

Miss Minutes explained that He Who Remains initially created her as a chess companion, but gave her the autonomy to write her own programming. She explained that they continued to be friends, but that He would never allow her to have a body. Miss Minutes asked Timely why, but Timely explained that it was not him. Miss Minutes expressed interest in a romantic relationship with Timely, who reached for the TemPad and deactivated her.

Ravonna Time Stick

Timely agrees to go with Renslayer

Renslayer suddenly appeared with Timely's prototype Time Stick, which Timely warned was dangerous. Timely apologized for leaving her behind, but Renslayer demanded that she was in charge of the mission and pruned a mannequin to make herself clear. Loki and Mobius M. Mobius rushed in and demanded that Renslayer let him go, leading to an argument. The argument was interrupted as everyone was knocked over by a magical blast from Sylvie Laufeydottir.

Timely Pleads for His Life

Timely pleads for his life

Sylvie pointed her sword directly at Timely, who pled with Laufeydottir. He insisted that he did not do anything, but Laufeydottir simply stated that he would do terrible things. Timely insisted that Laufeydottir did not know him and that he was not his Variant, convincing Laufeydottir to let him leave with Loki and Mobius. Mobius opened a Timedoor and told TImely to walk through, which Timely did.[3]

Work on the Temporal Loom[]

Taken to the TVA[]

Victor Timely sees Sculptures

Timely discovers the depictions of his Variant

"The more the merrier. And you all want me. Ms. Ravonna wants me. The effervescent clock-lady monster thing wants me. I should have some say."
―Victor Timely[src]

Timely found himself in the War Room of the Time Variance Authority Office and saw a wall decoration depicting his Variant as a warrior. Timely left the room and explored the corridor, where he came across a mural of the Time-Keepers ending the Multiversal War. Hunter B-15 approached Timely and recognized him as a Variant of their founder, and Timely greeted her. Loki and Mobius M. Mobius then approached, but Timely told them to stop and asked what they wanted with him. Loki claimed they would show him if he went with them, but Timely was not reassured. Mobius claimed that Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes lied about him and Loki and added that they did not have time for Timely not to trust them.

Victor Timely (Heart of the TVA)

Timely agrees to help

Timely said that he learned not to trust anyone from growing up in Chicago and greeted Sylvie Laufeydottir as she appeared. Timely noted that everyone there wanted him and demanded a say in what he did. Mobius agreed, and the headquarters suddenly experienced power surge, startling Timely. Timely asked whether the Temporal Loom was responsible for it, and Loki explained that it was and that only Timely could help fix it. Timely then agreed to help.[1]

Meeting Ouroboros[]

Timely in the tva

Timely gets excited to meet Ouroboros

"You wrote the TVA Handbook?"
"Well... Yes, I did. But I learned everything I know from a brilliant 19th-century inventor named Victor Timely. If he'd had the resources, he would have been bigger than Einstein. What did you say your name was?"
"Victor."
―Victor Timely and Ouroboros[src]

Timely was guided through the Time Variance Authority Office and marveled at the creations of his Variant. Loki introduced Timely to Casey and Ouroboros, and Timely recognized the latter of the author of the Time Variance Authority Official Handbook. Ouroboros confessed to having been inspired by Timely, leading the two to realize they had inspired each other's work. They went to autograph each other's handbooks, but Sylvie Laufeydottir asked them to focus on fixing the Temporal Loom.

Victor's Multiplier

Timely offers his prototype as a solution

As Ouroboros and Casey prepared to explain their plan, Timely recognized a model of the Loom. Ouroboros and Casey explained that someone would need to rush the Throughput Multiplier out and launch it at the Loom before quickly returning inside. However, Ouroboros explained that the Multiplier did not yet work. Timely correctly guessed that it was because the Loom's decay outpaced the Multiplier's throughput abilities, noting that he had the same problem with his own Loom. Ouroboros noted that it would take significant time to integrate the technology, but Timely assured him that they could do it together.[1]

Kidnapped by Hunter X-05[]

Timely Sees Hot Cocoa

Timely becomes interested in the hot chocolate

Timely worked with Casey and Ouroboros, and successfully integrated his prototype into the Throughput Multiplier. Timely looked at what Mobius was holding, so Mobius explained that he had gotten hot chocolate from a machine in the hallway. Timely expressed interest in the hot chocolate machine and asked to take a look. Hunter D-90 agreed to take him, so they left together.

Timely Taken Hostage

Timely gets taken hostage

Timely got hot chocolate and offered it to D-90, who hesitantly accepted it. D-90 enjoyed the taste of the hot chocolate, and the two laughed about it. He turned to make more, but D-90 was suddenly pruned by Hunter X-05. X-05 turned to Timely and demanded to know where the Multiplier was. Timely put his hands up in surrender and was taken to the War Room of the Time Variance Authority Office.

Timely Takes Out Book

Timely considers whether to reveal what he knows

Timely denied knowledge of the device he X-05 was asking about as X-05 sat Timely down next to Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes. Timely feigned relief that the pair were alright, but Renslayer refused to listen. She demanded to know where the device was, so Timely took out his journal and asked what would happen if they did not like what he told them. Renslayer explained that X-05 would kill Timely painfully, so Timely agreed to cooperate. As Timely explained the technology, X-05 suggested that he was stalling. The lights went off, and Miss Minutes said it was not a power surge before shutting down. The lights then shut off permanently, so Renslayer told X-05 to investigate it. X-05 soon returned and pulled Renslayer to the side while Loki and Laufeydottir pulled Timely away.[1]

Temporal Meltdown[]

Victor Loki OB

"Time to be brave."
―Victor Timely[src]

Timely was rushed back to the Temporal Loom by Loki and Sylvie Laufeydottir, and was convinced by Ouroboros and Loki to put his head in the Temporal Aura scanner, successfully opening the blast doors. Ouroboros realized that the Loom was in worse shape than he thought and asked who would be the one to go out. Loki volunteered, but Timely insisted it should be him since he knew how the Throughput Multiplier worked. Ouroboros took him and told him to get into the Temporal Core Suit and move as quickly as possible. Timely turned to Loki and said it was time to be brave.

Victor Timely Spaghettification

Timely gets killed by the temporal radiation

Timely got into the suit and said that he was ready, carrying the Multiplier. However, as soon as Timely stepped outside, his entire body disintegrated, killing him instantly.[1]

Inevitable Fate[]

Timely Listens to Loki

Timely is instucted by Loki

"Loki, give... give that back to the professor."
Mobius M. Mobius[src]

Loki managed to time slip to before Timely put on the Temporal Core Suit, effectively erasing his death. However, Timely did eventually get back in and died the same way, just before Loki could stop him. Loki slipped back and tried to explain it to Timely very quickly, which confused him, but Timely managed to understand. He tried to go out, but died right away once again. This happened a countless amout of times, with Timely not only dying right away everytime, but sometimes messing up in other ways like putting the Throughput Multiplier down, letting it fall off the gangway.

Timely Withering

Timely painfully withers away

Loki eventually gave up and slipped to earlier when Timely was being held hostage by Miss Minutes, Ravonna Renslayer and Hunter X-05. As Timely talked to his captors, Loki barged in and told Miss Minutes that he understood that she was angry with Timely, but he needed Timely's help. Although all four people looked at him strangely, Timely was eventually dragged into the core room by Loki and Casey where he died again. Another time, he was brought in by Sylvie Laufeydottir and Loki, but met the same fate.

Loki with Model

An interested Timely listens

Slipping back to when Timely entered the Time Variance Authority Office, Loki grabbed Timely and brought him to a room in the basement occupied by Ouroboros. Upon hearing his name, Timely perked up in excitement as Loki spoiled the surprise that Timely learned from Ouroboros, who learned from Timely. The two shook hands quickly in excitement. Timely then watched as Loki brought out a model of the Temporal Loom. Loki explained what was going to happen and told Timely that he would go out into the Temporal Radiation because he volunteered.

Loki Grabs the Multiplier

Timely panics as Loki grabs his prototype

Ouroboros spoke up, telling Loki that the throughput multiplier was not finished, but Loki told him that he was wrong. He then reached into Timely's bag and took out the prototype, which worried Timely who tried to get it back. Loki said the device would help them. Mobius M. Mobius then told Loki to give Timely back the item, which Loki did. Ouroboros then stated another worry, that the multiplier still would not be created fast enough. Loki then asked how long it would take him to learn how to create it quickly. Ouroboros told him decades, but Timely spoke up, saying it would take centuries.[2]

Dividing by Zero[]

Loki and Victor

Loki believes in Timely

"The Loom will never be able to accommodate for an infinitely growing Multiverse. You can't scale for infinite. It's like trying to divide by zero. It can't be done."
―Victor Timely to Loki[src]

Loki returned again having spent centuries learning. He quickly brought everyone to the core room where he took Timely to a Temporal Aura scanner. He put his head in, removing any doubts that Timely had about safety. Loki then took off Timely's glasses and pushed him into the scanner, opening up the gates. Loki then had Timely go downstairs to get put into the Temporal Core Suit. When Timely was done getting ready, he was given the Throughput Multiplier by Casey. Loki made sure to tell him not to put the multiplier down or it would roll off the gangway.

Timely Inside Temporal Radiation

Timely makes it to the Maintenance Probe

Timely opened the door and ran through, getting instant resistance from the Temporal Radiation. However, he was able to take a couple steps. He then pushed through the radiation and along the gateway. Timely walked slowly as the radiation ripped apart his suit. However, he managed to reach the Maintenance Probe where he briefly put down the multiplier. However, Loki quickly stopped him, saying not to do that. Timely quickly picked it up and put it into the probe.

The Heroic Kang

Timely celebrates victory

With the multiplier locked in place, Timely struggled to spin the probe, but managed to do so, revealing a button that Timely pushed. However, nothing happened. As Timely panicked, Loki calmly told him that the button could be a little sticky and to just hit it again. Timely obeyed, hitting it incredibly hard and releasing the probe. As it docked with the Temporal Loom, Timely made it back inside, where he excitedly exclaimed "pumpkins."

Victor's Sorry

Timely apologizes to Loki

He walked upstairs, to a cheering room and celebrated with Loki, who patted Timely on the back and pointed to the fixed loom, showing what they had done. This celebration was short lived though as Ouroboros spoke up saying the readings were off. Despite Loki claiming the calculations were correct, the loom started to explode. Timely then realized that what they have done did not matter as you could not scale the loom for an infinitely growing Multiverse as it will never be big enough for the branches. He compared it to dividing by zero. As the loom's energy came towards them, Timely sat down in defeat, telling Loki he was sorry. However, Loki managed to slip away before everyone's demise.[2]

A Grand Solution[]

The TVA Always Watches

Timely watches Loki

"He's giving us a chance."
Sylvie Laufeydottir[src]

Loki time slipped back to when Timely scanned his Temporal Aura. He looked at everyone before calmly walking down the stairs. As everyone worriedly went to the window, they saw Loki step outside into the Temporal Radiation and start marching his way down the gangway. As he did so, Loki used Magic to tear apart the Temporal Loom revealing dead branches that fell onto him.

Victor Nods

Timely nods to Loki

Timely and the others watched as Loki grabbed the branches and gave them life through his magic. He then carried all of them through a rift that opened up to the End of Time. Before leaving, he looked back at his friends. Timely in particular gave him a nod. Sylvie Laufeydottir remarked how he was giving them a chance. Loki then used the branches to create his own loom with himself, allowing the Multiverse to grow and saving everyone. As everyone recovered from the events, Timely stayed at the Time Variance Authority as a new edition of the Time Variance Authority Official Handbook was printed, with both him and Ouroboros being credited on the new edition's cover.[2]

Personality[]

"You're a confidence trickster."
"Luminary is the word you're looking for."
Loki and Victor Timely[src]

Victor Timely is a mild-mannered individual who is not very comfortable with socializing with other people, as seen from his constant stuttering during conversations. He dislikes it when others laugh at his stuttering. However, he is kind at heart and friendly to even strangers, as he excitedly showed his inventions to Ravonna Renslayer and maintained a polite attitude to both her and Miss Minutes, and offered to make hot chocolate for Hunter D-90 even though the latter was a bit hostile towards him.

Timely dislikes partnerships, similar to many of his other Variants, because he holds his inventions and abilities in high regard and is extremely proud of himself, unwilling to share his success and achievements with others, as shown when he refused a businessman's offer to join a mutually beneficial partnership and when he only agreed to help fix the Loom after learning that it was his work. Though initially friendly to Ravonna Renslayer, Timely immediately betrayed her and abandoned her on a small boat after she proposed that the two of them could be partners and work closely. Despite his pride, Timely deeply respects those with extraordinary abilities, such as Ouroboros, whose TVA Guidebook was where Timely got inspiration from. Their mutual respect was so strong that Timely was the first to initiate a handshake and was willing to be partners with O.B. to work on the Temporal Loom together. Timely may also be sometimes deceptive and sell faulty products or underdeveloped prototypes to customers. He is also a trickster, as he tried to say unrelated things and buy time after being captured by Renslayer in the TVA.

Due to He Who Remains' plan to use Timely as his successor, Loki's attempt to fix the malfunctioning Temporal Loom, and Laufeydottir's determination to kill any Variant of He Who Remains, Timely was initially quite confused about what was going on when he was pursued by three different groups. As a person living in the 1800s, Timely was initially frightened by Loki and Laufeydottir's superpowers and called Loki a "wizard", and since he was unfamiliar with the workings of artificial intelligence, mistook Miss Minutes' deactivation as her stuttering. Timely was also amazed by the workings of a hot cocoa machine.

Although initially appearing to be scared of Loki and the members of the TVA, Timely bonded with them quickly after experiencing life-and-death situations with them and appeared to form genuine friendships with the TVA crew, especially Loki and Ouroboros, as shown when he and Loki embraced each other and celebrated when they thought they had fixed the Temporal Loom. After they realized that the Loom still failed, Timely was deeply apologetic, showing his true emotions. Eventually, Timely co-wrote the second edition of the TVA Guidebook with O.B., reflecting that he had become very close with his friends.

Despite him being just a pawn in He Who Remains' grand scheme to continue controlling the Sacred Timeline, Timely is determined to prove that he can be a different and good person, unlike many of his other Variants. When confronted by Laufeydottir, who threatened to kill him, Timely pleaded for his life and tried to convince Laufeydottir that he was not He Who Remains. This desire to prove himself reached its apex when Timely was humiliated by Miss Minutes, who told him he could never be He Who Remains. He then picked up the courage to go out and fix the Temporal Loom, even if it meant risking his life to the temporal radiation, showing that, despite all his flaws, Timely could be a heroic person.
