- "Tonight, it is every hunter for themselves."
- ―Verussa Bloodstone[src]
Lady Verussa Bloodstone was a monster hunter and the widow of Ulysses Bloodstone. She became the leader of his cabal of monster hunters, upon her husband's death, carrying out his orders to give the Bloodstone to whomever was able to defeat and kill Man-Thing in a monster hunt.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Marrying Ulysses Bloodstone[]
Verussa met Ulysses Bloodstone and married him as his second wife. She then took residence in his house and joined him on his crusade. She was aware of Ulysses's daughter and that she was estranged from him.[1]
Hunt for Man-Thing[]
Meeting the Monster Hunters[]
In 2025, Bloodstone lost her husband and became into possession of the Bloodstone. She then held a meeting with his monster hunting cabal at the house. Verussa observed as a monster hunter, Jack Russell, entered the Temple. As they were getting ready to start the hunt, she saw Elsa Bloodstone walk in. She confronted her and asked her why she had come and if she only came because she felt obliged to do so, only to learn Elsa came for possession of the Bloodstone. When she felt threatened by her presence, Bloodstone walked back inside and began the meeting, addressing the number of kills each man in the room had done.
Later, Verussa ordered her butler, Billy Swan, to open Ulysses Bloodstone’s coffin, revealing the corpse of the former monster hunter who was briefly reanimated to tell his last will to those who came. Then Verussa closed the coffin and gathered the monster hunters outside, where it was decided that Jack Russell was going to be the first to enter the maze, as the latter was going inside, Lady Verussa and the other monster hunters chanted together.[1]
Confronting Jack Russell[]
Verussa led a team of soldiers to the courtyard as they heard that Man-Thing escaped. There, she saw Jack Russell lying on the ground, suffering from the effects of contacting the Bloodstone. Immediately understanding that Russell was a monster, Verussa ordered the soldiers to electrocute Russell and her step-daughter who had also helped the monster flee.
Later, the duo were locked in a cage in the centre of Bloodstone Manor under Verussa's orders. With the Bloodstone, Verussa forced Russell to become a Werewolf using an energy beam, intent on killing the monster. However, her team of monster hunters and soldiers were quickly murdered and defeated by Werewolf by Night who escaped by clawing his way out of the cage, and Elsa Bloodstone who helped Russell. Enraged, Verussa directed blasts on Werewolf by Night using the Bloodstone, pinning the latter on the wall. However, she was hit on the back by Elsa and lost consciousness.[1]
Death[]
As Verussa regained her senses and angrily confronted Elsa Bloodstone, she was caught by Man-Thing as she was about to attack Elsa using her weapon. Held in mid-air by Man-Thing, she was brutally burnt to death. Her corpse was then thrown across the room, destroying the corpse of her late husband, Ulysses Bloodstone, and only leaving his head intact.[1]
Personality[]
Verussa Bloodstone is possibly worse than the monsters she and the others hunt down. A drama queen who treats everything in a grandiose, overly-dramatic fashion.
She's also more of a wicked stepmother to Elsa, as she constantly berates Elsa and tells her what a disappointment her father considered her to be. She's practically giddy to have the excuse to lock Elsa in a cage with a werewolf after she "betrays" them by working with a monster.
Verussa has also shown to have knowledge in using the Bloodstone's magic against Jack to turn him into a werewolf outside the Full Moon Lunar cycle. Though this has also shown she is less than bright and underestimating her opponents, as she taunted Jack while transforming, giving him an excuse to maul her hand, and with her shouting to taser him. Not realizing it wasn't making him weaker but angrier, as he was now strong enough to break out of the cage and kill the remaining hunters.
