"If you endanger an operation or if anyone gets hurt, I'll reassign you to Barrow, Alaska and you'll spend the rest of your years doing night shift guarding Blonsky's cryo-cell."
Phil Coulson to Grant Ward[src]

The Vault is a hidden facility on Barrow, Alaska, where the former soldier Emil Blonsky is held on cryostasis.

Emil Blonsky was taken into custody under the watch of the United States Armed Forces following his duel with Hulk in New York City.[1]

Blonsky ended in a cryo-cell located in the Vault, with S.H.I.E.L.D. allowed to assign some of its agents to guard Blonsky. Phil Coulson told Grant Ward that he would spend the rest of his career doing nightshift on Blonsky's cryo-cell if his sexual relationship with Melinda May adversely affected the team.[2]

  • In the comics, the Vault was a maximum security facility for superhumans located on the Rocky Mountains, Colorado, that was closed after many years of riots and abuses of power.

Behind the Scenes

  • Originally a post-credits scene in The Incredible Hulk, according Director Louis Leterrier, was meant to be film showing Emil Blonsky, human once more, imprisoned and chained in his containment box, but it was ultimately scrapped.
  • The name of the facility was revealed in the novelization of the movie.
