"100% premium grade Chitauri metal, as rare as it gets."
"How'd you get your hands on this, Vanchat?"
"It's what I do. Find alien scrap that no one else can, then offer it to people who fully appreciate my efforts."
―Vanchat and Emily Deville[src]

T. Vanchat is a notorious international criminal that has often come to the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Biography

Capturing Akela Amador

"Akela Amador was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Seven years ago, she led a raid on one of Vanchat's gulags. Everyone believed that she and the two other agents on the mission were killed. I had my doubts. So I sent in a second team, just in case. They found a lot of carnage but couldn't confirm that any of it was Amador; left the possibility open."
Phil Coulson[src]

In 2006, Akela Amador led a raid on one of Vanchat's gulags in which most of her S.H.I.E.L.D. team was killed and Amador was captured where he would later sell her to HYDRA's Centipede Project.[1]

Chitauri Dealer

Paris Deal

"Something turns up... like this Chitauri Neural Link... we get to it before someone bad does."
"Any idea who Vanchat was planning to sell it to?"
"I'm more interested in how this Rising Tide group found out about it."
Grant Ward and Maria Hill[src]

Following the Battle of New York, Vanchat specialized himself in obtaining samples of Chitauri technology and metals, selling them in the black market. Therefore, Grant Ward was tasked with obtaining a Chitauri Neural Link that had come into Vanchat's possession and was stored in a flat in Paris.[2]

Apprehended by S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Let's just hope Vanchat can lead us to Centipede."
"Well the Chitauri metal he was selling is an exact match to what Centipede used for their device."
Grant Ward and Jemma Simmons[src]

Vanchat was taken into custody by a S.H.I.E.L.D. team under the direction of Victoria Hand during a transaction to sell a piece of Chitauri metal to Emily Deville. S.H.I.E.L.D. needed information from Vanchat as to the whereabouts of missing Phil Coulson, who had been abducted by the Centipede Project. Vanchat was, among other things, a dealer in alien metals, and the Centipede Project utilized his services in obtaining the Chitauri metal used in constructing their Centipede Devices.

Vanchat was interrogated in the interrogation room of the Bus but unwilling to provide any information until Grant Ward threatened to open the airlock. After giving S.H.I.E.L.D. everything they needed, Vanchat was taken to the Fridge for holding.[3] However, Vanchat managed to escape, when John Garrett and Grant Ward raided the Fridge and released all the prisoners there.[4]
