- "My God, you're a Valkyrie... You know, I used to want to be a Valkyrie when I was younger, until I found out you were all women. There's nothing wrong with women, of course, I like women. Sometimes a little too much. Not in a creepy way, just more like a respectful appreciation. I think it's great, an elite force of women warriors. It's about time."
- ―Thor to Valkyrie[src]
The Valkyries were a group of female Asgardian elite warriors that served as Odin's special force.
History
Odin sent his Valkyries to Hel in order to prevent Hela from escaping. The attack turned into a massacre, as Hela killed every Valkyrie with the exception of Brunnhilde. The trauma of the massacre led her to abandon Asgard and settle on Sakaar.[1]
Trivia
- In the comics, the Valkyries, or Valkyrior, led by Valkyrie, were killed in a war between Odin and Hela over rulership of Valhalla. Odin restored the Valkyries to life after he regained possession of Valhalla, but these Valkyries only have physical forms within Valhalla; outside it, they exist only in astral form.
- The sacrifice of the Valkyries was honoured with a monument in the Einherjar barracks within the City of Asgard.[2]
Behind the Scenes
- The seal of Valkyries was designed by Taika Waititi.[3]
