The Uprising in Attilan was a conflict orchestrated by Maximus Boltagon of Attilan, who sought to claim the throne by staging a coup d'état against the Inhuman Royal Family and overthrowing his older brother Black Bolt.
Background[]
Sowing The Seeds[]
For several millennia, the Inhumans inhabiting Attilan have taken part in a ceremony that allowed any citizens who previously came of age to undergo Terrigenesis and unlock their enhanced abilities.
In accordance with Attilan's strict caste system, the citizens who were considered gifted were granted unlimited access to the privileges of the upper classes while those with lesser abilities or no abilities at all were sentenced to work in the mines.
When he came of age, Prince Maximus was chosen to undergo Terrigenesis only to emerge as a normal human. This new status opened Maximus up to prejudice by his parents, former King Agon and his wife Rynda, as well as his future subjects.[3]
Setting the Stage[]
Upon learning about an unexplained phenomenon that was responsible for a drastic rise in the number of newly-emerged Inhumans living on Earth, Black Bolt, Maximus' older brother and Attilan's current King, secretly tasked his cousin Triton with going to Earth and bringing any Inhumans he could find back to Attilan.
When Triton failed to return after one such mission to the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Maximus asked Duodon to tell the rest of the Inhuman Royal Family what happened. Duodon revealed Triton was shot in the chest and presumably fell to his death while helping a female Inhuman evade a military strike team.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the Royal Family, the so-called strike team was a small team of Royal Guards sent to kill Triton on orders from Maximus, who realized Attilan was becoming overpopulated and believed that the only option available was to invade Earth and reclaim their rightful home.[3]
Uprising[]
Attack on Triton[]
Upon discovery of the Inhuman Outbreak on Earth, King Black Bolt of Attilan sent Triton to Earth in order to retrieve the new Inhumans after undergoing Terrigenesis. Maximus, also knowing about the Outbreak and Black Bolt's plans, sent forces to attack Triton.
While the Inhuman Jane was on the run from these forces, she found Triton. Triton attempted to summon Lockjaw, but Maximus' forces arrived before he could, so he and Jane ran away. Triton got shot in the stomach as he jumped into the ocean barely surviving.
However, when Maximus has Duodon show the Inhuman Royal Family the attack, everybody, including Maximus, believed him to be dead. The Family was upset with Black Bolt, who hadn't shared his plans with them. Gorgon was sent to Earth in a rescue mission, trying to see if Triton were still alive.[3]
Gaining Support[]
When the Terrigenesis of Bronaja appeared unsuccessful compared to his sister, who could fly, Maximus used Bronaja as an example in a speech he delivered to the lower caste in Attilan, promising to change the discriminatory ways of ruling upheld by the Black Bolt.[3]
Coup in Attilan[]
Determined to set his plan into motion, Maximus approached Kitang, the head of Attilan's Genetic Council, and asked him to tell his fellow Council members about the coup. Kitang, however, refused, accusing the Prince of treason and ordering Auran, a member of the Royal Guard, to arrest him. Auran, however, executed Kitang in cold blood.
Maximus then sent troops after the entire Royal Family. When Crystal learned about this, she had Lockjaw bring the rest of the Royal Family to Earth, hoping to save their lives. However, Lockjaw couldn't get to Medusa before Maximus forcefully shaved her head, causing immense pain. Crystal ended up trapped on Attilan when Maximus tranquilized Lockjaw, rendering him unable to move.[3]
Arrival on Earth[]

Upon arriving on the island of Oahu, the Inhuman Royal Family found themselves separated. Black Bolt found himself in the middle of a street, where he went to a clothing store. He was looking at suits, when a woman helped him pick one out. Not understanding that he had to pay for the suit, he left wearing it, and was approached by police. After being struck with a baton by an officer, Maximus accidentally grunted, which caused a nearby police car to flip over, and was arrested.
Crystal was taken prisoner in the Royal Palace, when Auran purposefully dropped her Com-Link.[4]
Medusa and Karnak found themselves in different places in the Diamond Head Crater. While Karnak injured his head and got taken in by marijuana farmers, Medusa found a tour bus and took it back to the city.[5]
