Laura Hayward attended University of Ohio. During her sophomore year, she was approached by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Phil Coulson and Grant Ward, hoping to find her brother. Ward posed as a member of the Ohio State Gaming Commission, claiming that her brother won the lottery. However, Hayward did not believe Ward, so she lied and said that she had not seen him since he returned from Afghanistan. Ward left, and Hayward called her brother, telling him that someone had called asking about him. This alerted her brother to the fact that people were looking for him.[1]
