"Just made the wrong deal, crossed the wrong guy. It turned out that his brother was some bigwig in the Justice Department. Some luck, huh?"
Stewart Finney to Wilson Fisk[src]

The United States Department of Justice, often abbreviated to DOJ, is a federal executive department of the U.S. government tasked with the enforcement of federal law and administration of justice in the United States.

History[]

Prosecution of Maria Hill[]

Following the Hydra Uprising, Maria Hill had a meeting with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., regarding her work for S.H.I.E.L.D., as Hydra emerged from within it. While most of the intelligence community would rather throw Hill in a black site, she was protected by Stark Industries's legal team.[1]

The Department of Justice prosecuted Stewart Finney who worked as a mortgage consultant but made the wrong deal with the brother of one of the Department's officials. As a result, Finney lost his fortune, got arrested and incarcerated at Rikers Island.[2]

AUSA Colin Dunbar listens to Hernán Álvarez's testimony

"Make sure your client understands that if he lies, or leaves anything out of his statement, the proffer becomes void. And he could be charged with anything he admitted here today."
Colin Dunbar to Patricia Wilson[src]

Colin Dunbar, the AUSA of the Department of Justice arrived in New York City and assisted Misty Knight and the New York City Police Department when Hernán Álvarez decided to testify against Mariah Stokes and her organization. Álvarez was represented by Patricia Wilson who looked through the agreement and accepted the conditions, while Dunbar explained that while he was promised immunity, if Álvarez lies in his testimony, the agreement would become void and Álvarez would be charged with anything he admits to.

Álvarez had no objection and signed the agreement before proceeding with the testimony, although Wilson recused from representing him when she found out that Álvarez was involved in an attack that almost took her son's life. With Dunbar listening, Álvarez stated that Stokes was responsible for Cottonmouth's death, paying Candace Miller for saying that Luke Cage did it and that Álvarez later killed Miller when she broke her silence. He also told Knight and Dunbar that Stokes was responsible for the Rum Punch Massacre and noted that Comanche killed Tom Ridenhour, being his snitch in the organization.[3] With Álvarez's testimony, Dunbar worked with Blake Tower to build a case against Stokes and Amanda Garmon officially denied the bail, placing Stokes in Rikers Island until a trial date was set.[4]

Mary Walker's File[]

"Even if I wanted to help you, and I don't, I can't pull non-redacted DOJ files."
"You can't, but you can pay someone who can."
Ward Meachum and Mary Walker[src]

Mary Walker approached Ward Meachum and requested him to obtain a non-redacted Department of Justice file on her that contained a part of her military record that was omitted.[5] Meachum was able to pull some strings and get the file for Walker, who looked through it and promptly burned it, before agreeing to help Meachum save his sister from Davos.[6]

Prosecution of Vanessa Marianna[]

"Thanks to my client, the Albanian Syndicate has been completely wiped out. Their counterfeiting ring, their Dark Web child pornography. And the Jalisco connection Mr. Fisk divulged last week gave the DEA an early and very white Christmas."
"And in exchange for his ongoing cooperation, the DOJ will not be filing charges against Vanessa Marianna."
Benjamin Donovan and Ray Nadeem[src]

With Wilson Fisk being arrested and serving his sentence at Rikers Island, the Department of Justice decided to press charges against Vanessa Marianna, claiming her as Fisk's accessory and intending to arrest her as soon as she steps her foot on United States soil.[7] Upon hearing the news from Donovan and Partners, Fisk made a deal with Ray Nadeem and provided the FBI with vital information on the Albanian Syndicate, which allowed the FBI to dismantle their criminal business with minimal casualties. In exchange for Fisk's cooperation, the Department of Justice dropped the charges against Marianna, allowing her to safely return to the country, and provided Fisk with some of his property that was seized during his arrest.[8]

Wilson Fisk's Appeal[]

"One hour ago, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the conviction of Wilson Fisk. Having seen the proof that they were wrong, the Department of Justice will not be going forward with charges. As of tonight, we are proud to announce that justice has prevailed and Wilson Fisk is once again a free man."
Benjamin Donovan[src]

Donovan and Partners filed an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in order to overturn Wilson Fisk's conviction, claiming that their client was wrongfully accused. With consideration of Fisk's fruitful cooperation with the FBI, the Department of Justice made a decision to drop the charges, officially declaring Fisk innocent. The Deputy Attorney General had ruled that Fisk must continue to be a valuable asset and remain under constant protection by the FBI.[9]

S.H.I.E.L.D. Most Wanted[]

"We're not just wanted. We're most wanted. Top of the lists. All the lists."
Daisy Johnson[src]

Following the attack on Glenn Talbot carried out by Daisy Johnson, a number of former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were included into the Most Wanted lists, being deemed high priority targets. Phil Coulson, Daisy Johnson, Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmons, Melinda May, Alphonso Mackenzie and Yo-Yo Rodriguez were placed at the top of the lists of the Department of Justice, the FBI, the New York City Police Department and the Interpol.[10]
