Finding Iron Man[]
F-22 Raptors close in on Iron Man
With radars sensing something attacking a Ten Rings-Maggia base, Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes sent out Whiplash 1 and another F-22 Raptor to check it out. The two pilots locked onto Iron Man and attacked. Iron Man eventually got a hold of Rhodes and explained that he was in fact Tony Stark, Rhodes friend. Rhodes called off the pilots but demanded an explanation.[1]

"No!" - ―James Rhodes and Iron Man[src]
Through James Rhodes, the military started working together with Iron Man. They got word of an issue at a Russian Nuclear Facility, but knew they could not send in troops. Therefore, they asked Iron Man for help, which he gladly agreed to. Later, A.I.M. hijacked a prototype destroyer ship in the Arctic. They sent out troops, but they were not fast enough. Iron Man eventually flew out and helped retake it.

Eventually, Rhodes had seen enough of A.I.M.'s destructive tendencies and urged the government to freeze A.I.M.'s accounts, which worked in sending them back to their headquarters. This allowed Stark to end them once and for all. When Iron Monger attacked Los Angeles, Rhodes used his rank to get everyone out of the city.[1]
