"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as the "Killmonger's War Universe".

"Break out the fine China. Not every day the Americans get down in the muck with the likes of me."
―Ulysses Klaue to James Rhodes[src]

Ulysses Klaue was a mercenary for hire and a black market dealer who managed to steal a stock of vibranium from Wakanda. Klaue joined forces with Erik Killmonger, planning to bring Wakanda down by starting a war between them and the United States of America, however, Killmonger eventually betrayed and killed him.

Biography[]

Arms Dealer[]

Meeting with James Rhodes[]

"My, my, my. I would not want to play chess with you, my friend. I leaked word of the sale to the Wakandan War Dogs. And it all played out just as you predicted it would."
―Ulysses Klaue to Erik Killmonger[src]

As an weapons trafficker, Klaue became acquainted with Tony Stark, who contacted him in order to purchase a cargo of Vibranium from Klaue. Klaue thus set up a meeting with James Rhodes, the liaison between the United States Armed Forces and the military complex industries, in his Salvage Yard, to settle the deal. However, on Erik Killmonger's indication, Klaue also secretly contacted the War Dogs to tip them off about the transaction.

At the meeting, Klaue initially only showed a Vibranium Spear, but once Rhodes assured him that Stark was willing to pay the high price, Klaue agreed to display his entire cargo of Vibranium. As the base had been infiltrated by Black Panther, Klaue ordered his men to find and eliminate the intruder. However, he did not take part in the fight himself and retreated into the shadows, watching his men being taken down by Black Panther, who was then subdued and killed by Killmonger. Once Killmonger had also murdered Rhodes by making it seem like Black Panther had done it, Klaue got out of hiding and complimented Killmonger on his strategic skills. He then had the Vibranium extracted from his base.[1]

Betrayed by Erik Killmonger[]

"Come on. We better get going. Not looking to meet the business end of one of their spears, if you know what I mean. Savages."
"It's like you said. Wakandans are full of surprises."
―Ulysses Klaue and Erik Killmonger[src]

Klaue later met with Erik Killmonger once again, being impressed by the Stark Liberator Drones that his Vibranium had enabled to manufacture. He was then asked by Killmonger to take him to the border of Wakanda. Klaue agreed to drive Killmonger there at night, but then urged him to get back into the car, fearing that the Wakandans, who he called "savages", might find and execute him. However, he was then surprised by Killmonger revealing that he was of Wakandan descent himself and shot Klaue, killing him.[1]

Legacy[]

Delivered to Wakanda[]

"I come with a gift. An offering of justice."
Erik Killmonger[src]

Klaue's body was then taken to Wakanda by Erik Killmonger, who threw it at the feet of several Dora Milaje and used it as a gesture of good faith, to prove that he wished to serve Wakanda as the son of late Prince N'Jobu and enable his country to find justice. Thanks to his betrayal of Klaue, Killmonger was therefore able to find his way into the Golden Tribe, having successfully orchestrated the American-Wakandan War.[1]

Personality[]

"Can't clean up the world without getting your hands dirty."
"Oh! That is good. You should stitch that on a pillow."
James Rhodes and Ulysses Klaue[src]

Brutal, cunning, and greedy, Klaue was a dangerous individual who only pursued his own interests and had a complete disregard for morality or law as long as he could make money out of it. He showed barely any respect to James Rhodes when they met to seal the purchase of Vibranium, mocking the military for coming to Klaue's Salvage Yard, and only displayed contempt for the Wakandans, who he called "savages", unaware that the person he had allied with, Erik Killmonger, was from Wakanda and would eventually execute him to serve his own interests.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Thief: Klaue was able to steal a large supply of Vibranium from Wakanda and made it out alive, succeeding in hiding his loot from the Dora Milaje and the War Dogs for years.
