Trial[]
- "I am a witch."
"Yet you have betrayed your coven." - ―Agatha Harkness and Evanora Harkness[src]
During 1693 in Salem, Agatha Harkness' coven brought her to the woods, as she begged to be spared, and used magic to tied her to a wooden post. The witches gathered around her and Evanora Harkness asked her daughter if she was witch, to which she replied yes. Evanora replied that she had betrayed her coven regardless, and accused her of practicing a form of witchcraft that was forbidden. Agatha denied this by saying she could not control her magic and that she did not break any of their rules.
Nevertheless, the coven attempted to execute her by draining her life force with blue beans of energy. However, Agatha used her purple magic to reverse the effect and start draining the other witches' life force. and also inadvertly absorbing and stealing their magic. Agatha continued to beg to her mother about her inability to control herself. Evanora attempted to execute Agatha herself, however, she managed to break free from the post and kill her. Freeing herself, Agatha went to her mother's corpse to take her brooch, and put it on herself, before flying away.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "When Agatha murdered her sister witches, she spared their young children."
"Yeah, and then they became a feral, hive-minded coven bent on revenge."
"Whoa, ah! The moral of the story, kids, is always finish what you started. Also, mercy is overrated." - ―Lilia Calderu, Rio Vidal and Agatha Harkness[src]

Agatha Harkness showed mercy and spared the children of the coven. However, over time, these children grew resentful and vengeful, eventually forming the Salem Seven, a hive-minded coven with the goal of exacting revenge on Harkness for killing their mothers.[2]
Centuries later, in 2023, Scarlet Witch cast an illusion into Harkness' head during the Battle of Westview to recreate this moment, except the corpses of the witches returned as undead to initiate another trial.[1]
In late 2026, the Salem Seven were informed of Agatha Harkness' whereabouts by Rio Vidal[3], and they attacked Harkness and her coven[4], even following them down the Witches' Road.[2]
