The Translator Implant is a chip commonly used throughout the galaxy to allow communication between species. Universal translators were used by members of the Kree Starforce, while non-universal chips were used by the Guardians of the Galaxy.
History[]
Universal Translator[]
Carol Danvers[]
Carol Danvers was outfitted with a universal translator after becoming Vers, a member of the Kree Starforce. After returning to Earth in 1995, she communicated with a security guard in Los Angeles, asking him if her universal translator allowed him to understand her.[1]
Non-Universal Translator[]
Guardians of the Galaxy[]
Peter Quill had a non-universal translator implant installed in his neck. After being captured on Xandar, Quill was scanned by the Nova Corps and the translator implant was detected.[2] Kraglin Obfonteri, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Nebula, Rocket, Mantis and Cosmo also had translator implants.[3] After discovering children imprisoned in High Evolutionary's ship, Mantis stated that the language they spoke was not in her translator.[4]
Capabilities[]
- Translation: The implant allows instantaneous translation of various intergalactic languages. The translator commonly used by inhabitants of the Andromeda Galaxy, like the Guardians of the Galaxy, was the non-universal variant, which didn't include the languages of the Sakaarans, the Flora colossi[5] or the Orbose.[4]
