- "It's not a competition, Tommy."
"It is if you're a winner." - ―Billy Maximoff and Tommy Maximoff[src]
Tommy Maximoff is the son of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, and the older twin brother of Billy Maximoff. Created and raised within the Westview Anomaly, he, along with his brother, were targeted by S.W.O.R.D. and eventually captured by Agatha Harkness. During the Battle of Westview, the brothers were freed and helped defeat the S.W.O.R.D. agents. Following the battle, Wanda dispelled the Hex, which resulted in Maximoff's soul being sent adrift. Three years later, his soul was placed into the body of a drowned boy by Billy in an attempt to give Maximoff a second chance at life.
Biography[]
Westview Anomaly[]
Created by Wanda Maximoff[]
- "Tommy. Just a nice, classic, all-American name."
- ―Wanda Maximoff to Vision[src]
Following an unnaturally fast pregnancy, Tommy Maximoff was born shortly before his twin brother Billy to their parents, Wanda Maximoff and Vision, in their Westview family home. Upon being checked over by Dr. Stan Nielson, the new-born twins were put to bed as Wanda and Geraldine watched over them. Having reminisced about her own twin brother, Wanda sung them a Sokovian Lullaby to get them to settle. When Geraldine recognized the name "Pietro", she enquired about Wanda's history with Ultron. Becoming more and more aggravated, Wanda interrogated Geraldine about how she knew Pietro. In response to the adults' confrontation, Maximoff and Billy started to cry until Wanda used her powers to eject Geraldine from Westview. Maximoff and Billy calmed down again once Wanda returned to them in their crib.[1][3]
Growing Up[]
Wanda Maximoff and Vision grew increasingly frustrated as the twins refused to sleep and instead were crying. As Wanda and Vision were attempting to get their newborn children to sleep, Agnes walked into the house. She offered to take care of the babies for them to relieve some of their stress. Eventually, the exhausted parents noticed that the children were quiet, but soon realized they were not in their cribs. They soon realized that the twins’ ages had accelerated and that they had magically grown from newborns to five-year-olds.
Later, Maximoff and his brother found a stray dog in their street, and brought him to their kitchen, intending to bathe him so their mother would let them keep him. When Wanda discovered the dog, she warned them that taking care of a dog was a huge responsibility. Vision later walked in as well, and so did Agnes, carrying a doghouse for the new family pet, whom they named Sparky. However, when Vision insisted that the twins were not old enough for a dog, Tommy Maximoff and Billy looked at each other mischievously. They then aged themselves once more, this time to ten-year-olds.
Later that day, Billy trained Sparky to do tricks and fed him treats. When Tommy insisted that they go to show their father, Wanda informed them that he was at work. The twins found this confusing as it was a Saturday, so he wasn't supposed to be working. Wanda told them he needed a distraction. However, Billy believed that he needed a distraction from them. Wanda quickly explained that that wasn't the case, and said to them that while he and Tommy would argue at time, they would always be brothers. Tommy asked if Wanda had a brother, and Wanda said that she did, but that he was far away from here. The twins and their mother would then be distracted by Sparky running to the door, something attracting his attention. As Wanda went outside to investigate, she opened the door, only for Sparky to run away, which caught Maximoff and Tommy's attention. Billy and Tommy then went outside to find Sparky while accompanying their mother.
Shortly afterwards, Wanda, Billy and Tommy were walking around their street looking for Sparky, who had run away earlier. They soon were approached by Agnes, who was holding Sparky in a blanket, and she informed Billy and Tommy that he had died. The twins were shocked and devastated, and attempted to again age themselves; however, Wanda stopped them before they could do anything. They begged for Wanda to resurrect Sparky; however, Wanda insisted she couldn't do such a thing. Vision arrived soon after and saw that Sparky had died, and comforted his sons.[2]
First Halloween[]
The next day, Tommy joined Billy in pranking "Pietro Maximoff", who was lying on the couch. Shortly, Wanda Maximoff walked down the stairs, in her costume, and then greeted Vision who joined them in his costume. "Pietro Maximoff" whisked Tommy away and then returned wearing matching costumes and hairstyles.
Later that evening, Billy and Tommy approached Wanda and showed her their newfound powers. Tommy was ability to move at superhuman speeds, like his uncle. Billy and Tommy then left to get candy at the end of the street, before returning to the main square. Billy then used his powers to halt an excited Tommy, as he used his mind to see Vision in distress outside next to S.W.O.R.D. agents, and immediately rushed to inform Wanda. Maximoff then watched in shock when Wanda used her powers to blast "Pietro" into a haystack.[5]
Abducted by Agatha Harkness[]
The next morning, Tommy and Billy played video games in the living room, while waiting for their mother to wake up. However, their games began switching throughout different time periods. Confused, Tommy and Billy went up to Wanda's bedroom and asked her what was happening. However, Wanda didn't want to be bothered and told them she wanted to sleep. Billy then told her that he could hear voices in his head, meaning that he could hear the other Westview citizens.
Tommy and Billy then returned downstairs and waited for Wanda. When she came down, she told them to stay away from "Pietro" and that Vision would return when he was ready. She then began to have a mental breakdown, confusing Tommy and Billy.
After Wanda sat down with them, Agnes arrived and walked inside. Seeing that Wanda was stressed out, she then offered to watch Tommy and Billy at her house while Wanda got feeling better. Wanda agreed and Tommy and Billy left with Agnes.
After being taken to Agnes' house, Tommy and Billy sat down on the couch in the living room and Billy played with Señor Scratchy, who laid in his lap. When Agnes joined them on the couch, Billy told her that she was silent and that he couldn't hear her thoughts. Agnes then reassured them that their mother would be fine. Agnes then made Billy and Tommy sandwiches and turned on the television for them, before locking them up in her witch lair.[6]
Tommy and Billy were then brought out to the street by Agatha Harkness and restrained by her magic, causing them to choke. They then cried out when they saw Wanda run out and try to rescue them.[7] After Harkness declared Wanda the "Scarlet Witch", Wanda blasted Harkness away, allowing Tommy and Billy Maximoff to run into their house.[8]
Battle of Westview[]
Tommy and Billy Maximoff hid in the house until they started dying; they were decaying. Tommy used his speed to get them to their mother, but he collapsed while running. Tommy and Billy writhed on the ground as their mother closed the Hex. When Wanda saw them, she closed it, stopping their inevitable deaths. The twins reunited and hugged Wanda as well as Vision. Wanda then shielded everyone from Agatha Harkness.
As Vision fought another enemy, Wanda told the boys to handle the incoming S.W.O.R.D. troops so she could fight Harkness. The boys were happy to. Billy froze the troops in time as Tommy supersped around them, even taking one of the enemy's glasses. Suddenly, Tyler Hayward marched out, preparing to shoot. Luckily, Monica Rambeau jumped in front and used her powers to stop the bullets. Darcy Lewis then stopped Hayward. The twins and Vision watched as Wanda eventually defeated Harkness. Tommy and Billy hugged their mother as the family reunited. They then walked home as the sun went down.[8]
Dissolution of the Hex[]
- "He's out there somewhere. I can sense him. I just... can't find him."
- ―Billy Maximoff to Agatha Harkness[src]
Returning home, Maximoff and Billy went to their bedroom, where their parents kissed them good night and told them that they were proud of then. As Wanda walked out of the room, she thanked the boys for choosing her to be their mom, and Maximoff smiled at his mother.[8] Maximoff quickly fell asleep and was unaware that the Westview Anomaly was being dispelled by his mother. Billy, however, was still awake and was able to read their parents' minds. In a desperate attempt to save both of their lives, Billy's magic removed both twins' souls from their bodies before they could be deleted along with everything else that had been created by Wanda within the Hex.[9] While Billy was able to transfer his soul into the body of a boy who died right before the Hex went down,[10] Maximoff's soul remained in existence without a corporeal form,[9] although Billy was able to sense it.[10]
A New Life[]
Soul Transferred[]
- "He's gonna drown. It's a bad place."
"It usually is."
"And the people, the family, there's no one to love him! He's got no one!" - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Three years later, in 2026, Billy Maximoff located Tommy Maximoff's soul. With the aid of Agatha Harkness, Billy sought for a recently deceased body to transfer Maximoff's soul into so that his twin could have a second chance at life. Billy then found a boy who was pushed into a swimming pool by other boys who then forced the boy's head underwater as an evil prank, and watched in horror as the boy drowned to death. Billy cried that the boy had no family or no one to love him but transferred Maximoff's soul into the body anyway. Now in possession of a body, Maximoff swam to the surface of the pool.[9]
Personality[]
- "I'm the cool twin."
"What does that make me?"
"A dorksaurus rex." - ―Tommy Maximoff and Billy Maximoff[src]
This section needs a rewrite |
Tommy Maximoff loves playing pranks and when he gets excited, he starts running around wildly until Wanda has to grab him by the arm and give him a stern talking to.
He is also a major fan of “Pietro”, and copies everything his uncle does, including wearing the same Halloween costumes, and is delighted to discover that they have the same superpowers.
Powers[]
- "Chip off the old Maximoff block. You've got super speed!"
- ―"Pietro Maximoff" to Tommy Maximoff[src]
- Superhuman Speed: Like his uncle, Maximoff can run at super sonic speed. He is able to act, move, and perceive in seconds or less, far faster than normal people could even perceive. His power causes him to generate an aura of blue/green, white, and transparent energy currents and mist-like shapes, much like fire or wind, leaving behind a trail of it as he runs. Maximoff used his abilities to swiftly relieve S.W.O.R.D. agents of their weapons. Despite his powers resembling that of his uncle, his abilities do not amplify the force behind his movements like his uncle's did, notably allowing his mother to catch him by the arm without being injured.
- Superhuman Stamina: After Maximoff found out he had super speed, he chose almost the entire Westview with and without his brother for a long time and showed no signs of fatigue.
- Age Manipulation: Maximoff and his twin brother Billy have both been shown to have the ability to change their ages at will, each time aging up around five years.
