"Titan was like most planets; too many mouths, not enough to go around. And when we faced extinction, I offered a solution."
"Genocide."
Thanos and Doctor Strange[src]

The Titans were a race of humanoid beings that were the inhabitants of the planet of the same name. Their planet was crippled by overpopulation, eventually causing a societal cataclysm that rendered the species functionally extinct, leaving Thanos as the only surviving Titan.

History[]

Facing Extinction[]

Once an advanced race, Titans suffered from overpopulation, as their home planet eventually ran out of resources. Thanos offered a solution, to randomly kill off half of the population to save Titans from extinction, however, his people disregarded Thanos' genocidal proposal, calling him a madman. Subsequently, Titans turned on each other for survival, which resulted in major conflicts across the planet and the near extinction of all Titans, with Thanos and his adoptive brother Eros being the only survivors.[1]

Alternate Universes[]

Pruned by the TVA[]

"You know, we brought in Kree, Titans, vampires."
Mobius M. Mobius[src]

Some of the Titan Variants were apprehended and pruned by the Time Variance Authority for breaching the Sacred Timeline.[2] One of which was a Thanos variant that owned a helicopter called the Thanos-Copter.

Characteristic Traits[]

Titans are much larger than humans, and their physical constitution is strong enough to wield the Infinity Stones without strain and easily overpower and severely injure beings as strong as Vision, Hulk, and Thor, as displayed by Thanos. Titans, despite their large size, possess incredible superhuman speed and reflexes that allows them to easily outmaneuver and overwhelm not only other beings of similar sizes, such as Hulk but also even smaller and highly agile individuals as well, such as Loki, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Iron Man in his Mark L Armor. They are also able to react swiftly to high-speed projectiles.[1]

The tremendous level of strength that Titans possess is further exemplified by how Thanos was able to damage vibranium, by ripping the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead and breaking off a part of Captain America's shield.

Titans are invulnerable to many forms of damage, as even Gamora has stated that killing Thanos may not be possible, and the only known weapon with the power to kill Thanos was Stormbreaker, the most powerful weapon forged from Uru, and only if the axe was powered to the maximum and the attack was lethal.[1]

Titans also have extensive lifespans, being able to live for thousands of years, as exemplified by Thanos.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, the Titanians were a tribe of Eternals that inhabited the Saturn moon of Titan. They were mostly exterminated at the hands of Thanos, whose deformities originated from having the Deviant syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.
