Time and Again is the fifth episode of the first season of Ms. Marvel.
Synopsis[]
The bangle reveals to Kamala secrets about her family lineage, as well as the truth behind the Veil.
Plot[]
In 1942, Aisha runs from the British Army, then suddenly turns around and throws a dagger, killing a soldier. Back in the village, kids are playing cricket while a man, Hasan, tries to unite the people to rise up against British rule. Suddenly, the British Army comes in and stops him. Aisha witnesses this and then walks through the village until she finds a tree and sleeps under it. When she wakes up, Hasan talks to her and offers shelter, which she takes. Aisha eats his food, but refuses to talk to him. She then compliments his roses and tells her his name.
Many months later, she gifts him a walking stick for his hurt leg, instead of his tree branch he was previously using. She is now pregnant and thanks him for making her a home in the village. In 1947, she is doting on her daughter Sana, allowing her to play with her bangle, when they hear a knock on the door. A friend, Rohan, arrives with milk and vegetables, although Hasan says they don't want any charity. As Rohan leaves, Aisha looks outside, frightened of what she has seen. She gets a lamp and walks into the fields to see Najma who she hugs. This makes Aisha want to leave as the growing danger looms nearer, which angers Hasan, who doesn't want to leave his childhood home.
Aisha, Hasan, and Sana march to the trains, but Hasan claims he cannot keep up. The three sit down and Aisha tells him the truth about the bangle, as well as who she saw the night before. As they get to the train yard, Aisha sees Najma walking towards her. She gives Sana to Hasan, and tells him to go. As Najma gets nearer, she claims that Aisha turned her back on them. Najma then stabs Aisha before walking away. Meanwhile, Hasan nears the train, but has lost Sana. He tries to find her while Aisha bleeds out on the side of a train. Aisha uses her bangle to set off a purple flare.
Kamala Khan walks through the train yard in 1947 and sees Aisha lying on her back in a cart. Khan says that Aisha has to save Sana, like in the story. Aisha replies, saying that she's okay because Khan is there. She then gives her a picture before dying. Khan briefly mourns her before running through the crowd and finding Sana, picking her up. Khan creates a hard light structure so that Sana can step on it. However, Khan is pushed causing the light to break, but Sana somehow controls the particles which leads her to her father. Khan realizes it was her that saved Sana in 1947, before she travels back to the present.
Everybody wakes up from a spell and Najma sees a rift opening, saying it's the Veil and they could go home. Meanwhile, Muneeba Khan worries about Kamala. Fariha touches the rift, which turns her into a skeleton. Kamala tries to stabilize the rift while she yells at Kareem to go. Kamala tells Najma not to go through the rift as she has a son. Najma replies that she doesn't, she left Kamran. Najma tries to go through the portal, but turns into a skeleton herself. She yells out to Kamran before going. Meanwhile, across the world, Kamran hears this calling and it gives him a hard light fist. Muneeba and Sana Ali finally find Kamala after the rift closes. Kamala gives Ali the picture that Aisha gave her. The picture of her family. Before leaving, Kamala finds Kareem who tells her that Waleed would be very proud of her. Kareem then gives Kamala his Red Dagger cloth before departing. Muneeba finds Kamala's necklace on the ground, which forms an S-like symbol.
Back at home, Muneeba and Ali make up for their past troubles, which in turn helps Muneeba's relationship with Kamala. Outside of Circle Q, Kamran sneaks up on Bruno Carrelli and asks for his help. Heading upstairs, they officially meet and Kamran realizes that Carrelli's name isn't Brian, like he previously thought. Suddenly, a Damage Control drone targets Kamran from outside the window. Kamran shoots a hard light structure at it, which shocks Carrelli, before the drone's missile hits the Circle Q store below.
