"You know why they call it "programming," right? Because you're being programmed through little screens, big screens, little morphine drips of sequels and prequels and zombies and Kanyes, Snapchats and Grumpy Cats, all designed by the media, corporate S.H.I.E.L.D. machine, and you're asleep, binge-watching the Apocalypse! You know what Tony Stark's armor is powered by?"
―Thurston Koenig[src]

Thurston Koenig is a slam poet activist and Eric, Billy, Sam, and LT Koenig's brother.

Early Life

Living with Four Siblings

"What happened to you? We had the same parents, same teachers, same liquor cabinet. Your brothers toughened up, joined the cause."
"Yeah, that worked out great for Eric."

In his childhood, Thurston, along with his quadruplet brothers Eric, Sam and Billy, was picked on by his elder sister, LT Koenig. Unlike his other siblings, Thurston refused to join S.H.I.E.L.D., being very critical to the organization instead, especially after his brother Eric died at the hands of HYDRA mole Grant Ward.[1]

Protest Interrupted

Rescued by S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Hey, hey, hey. Ho, ho. S.H.I.E.L.D. stormtroopers have got to go."

The Soul Patch

Thurston Koenig performs at The Soul Patch

While performing his usual one-man show at The Soul Patch, Koenig had stepped onto the stage, greeting his audience by calling them Sheeple, before questioning what programs they had been watching on the television, while claiming that they were being reprogrammed by their organisations like S.H.I.E.L.D., as he claimed that he was all connected with the content like Kayne West and Grumpy Cat, all of which had made LT Koenig cringe, as she watched her brother's performance. As he went on, Koenig accused his audience of being asleep, while binge watching their own apocalypse.

Koenig confronting LT Koenig for interrupting

However, Koenig's show was interrupted by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s arrival, as they had been sent to pick LT. Having witnessed a fight breaking out between LT and Davis, Koenig had stepped in to complain about his show getting ruined, only for LT to insist he had done this by himself. While Phil Coulson explained that all of the Koenigs were in danger after an assault on Billy and Sam Koenig, so S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to take the other siblings for their protection, Koenig refused, unwilling to have anything to do with the organization he despised, but LT had then used her I.C.E.R. on him and he was taken onto Zephyr One.

Koenig complaining about being taken away

Once he awoke, Koenig had then confronted their sister for shooting him with an I.C.E.R., as she told him to stop whining, while Sam had insisted that they had all been brought onto Zephyr One for his own protection, although Koenig insisted that he did not want anything to do with S.H.I.E.L.D., which LT and Sam rolled their eyes about, as LT questioned why Koenig was like this, while also noting how they had grown up with the same parents, same teachers and the same liquor cabinet. LT then reminded Koenig of how his brothers had toughened up and all joined S.H.I.E.L.D., questioning what Koenig had done.

However, as Koenig noted that this resulted with Eric Koenig getting murdered by Grant Ward, which he blamed on LT. However, while LT then insisted that Eric died with a purpose and had questioned what Koenig had done for the world, Sam finally stepped in and reminded them that they were family. When Sam brought his siblings in for his hug, LT then responded by punching him in the gut. As Koenig then questioned if he could go back home, Coulson informed Koenig that he would have to remain on their plane for his own safety, as he had his agents take him into his room, much to Koenig's annoyance.

Koenig gets happily reunited with Billy Koenig

Eventually, Koenig had then learned that Billy had been rescued from the Watchdogs, as Koenig reunited with his brother and hugged him, while expressed his great relief that he was finally safe, before he had then continued to insist that they were all still sheep for just believing in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mission, which all the other Koenigs rolled their eyes about. With that, Coulson then informed all of the Koenigs that they had their Quinjet ready to take them back home for their own safety, before thanking them all for their services to S.H.I.E.L.D., with LT had then insisted that S.H.I.E.L.D. could call on them at any time.[1]
