- "Janet stole something from me. My ticket out of here. And you’re the only one who can steal it back."
"And why would I do that?"
"Because you want to get out of here." - ―Kang the Conqueror and Ant-Man[src]
The Theft of the Multiversal Engine Core was a job taken by Scott Lang in exchange for his and his daughter Cassie's freedom and safety from Kang the Conqueror.
Background[]
- "Let me make this easy for you. You will bring me what I need or I will kill your daughter in front of you, then make you relive that moment over and over again in time, endlessly, until you beg me to kill you."
- ―Kang the Conqueror to Ant-Man[src]
Kang the Conqueror was banished into the Quantum Realm by the Council of Kangs for his constant destroying of timelines. However, Kang teamed up with Janet van Dyne to repair his Time Sphere and Multiversal Engine Core and return to his annihilation of timelines. However, when van Dyne learned of Kang's true intentions, she turned on him and used multiple growth discs on the Core, enlarging it to where Kang couldn't use it. Sometime later, van Dyne was rescued from the Quantum Realm. However, Kang was able to reclaim his powerful armor, allowing him to enslave the entirety of Axia.
Eventually, Kang received a signal sent from a Quantum Satellite and ordered M.O.D.O.K. to turn the signal into a portal to suck Scott Lang, Cassie Lang, Hank Pym, and Hope van Dyne into the Quantum Realm. Luckily for Kang, M.O.D.O.K. was able to capture Scott and Cassie. Due to Scott's usage of Pym Particles, Kang tortured Scott and his daughter, demanding that he help him shrink down the Multiversal Engine Core or Kang would kill Cassie, forcing Scott to agree.[1]
Theft[]
- "You’ll have to shrink down and pass through the eye of the storm. Once you’re inside, find the core and size it back down."
"What does it look like? When I steal something, I usually know what I’m stealing."
"You’ll know it when you see it." - ―M.O.D.O.K., Ant-Man and Kang the Conqueror[src]

Immediately afterward, Kang the Conqueror would transport himself, Ant-Man, Cassie Lang, M.O.D.O.K., and multiple of Kang's soldiers to an overlook of the Multiversal Engine Core. As they overlooked it, M.O.D.O.K. would inform Ant-Man how he needed to shrink past the probability storm to survive long enough to get close to the center of the core. Eventually after Cassie apologized for inadvertently causing them to end up in this situation, Ant-Man would jump down into the center of the core. After finally reaching the core, Ant-Man would attempt to get it through with, but he would indivertibly split into two separate versions of himself. As both Ant-Man's were questioning what was happening, M.O.D.O.K. would tell the original how he was in a probability storm, and every decision he makes would make a copy that made the opposite decision. Despite M.O.D.O.K. trying to tell him to try to calm down to avoid making more copies, Ant-Man would completely freak out causing him to make many more copies of himself. Eventually after seeing an impulsive copy of himself be torn apart by turning into Giant Man, all the rest decided to just make a break for it, with the original trying to keep ahead of the group.
Meanwhile Wasp, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne would locate Ant-Man at the Multiversal Engine Core with Wasp going in to save him after realizing what was happening. As she would begin splitting into multiple copies of herself, Janet advised her to ignore them and focus on saving Ant-Man. Meanwhile, Ant-Man and his copies were running to the core, trying to stay normal size as those who grew to Giant Man would be torn apart. However, their collective weight would cause the ground to crash with the original slowly beginning to sink into his duplicates and suffocating. However, Cassie would link into Ant-Man's communications begging him to be safe, which would make the other Ant-Mans help make a mountain to lift him to safety due to their combined concern for Cassie's safety. However, the Shrinking Disks Ant-Man launched into the Core would be withered away since there wasn't enough to work. But Wasp would finally find Ant-Man and as all of their duplicates were now on the same page of the objective, they would all condense into the originals, with them launching many more shrinking disks into the Multiversal Engine Core, finally causing it to shrink back to its normal size.[1]

Now with the Multiversal Engine Core back to normal Ant-Man, Wasp, and Janet van Dyne would reunite, as Hank Pym waited in Krylar's Yacht with Janet explaining how they can't trust Kang the Conqueror. However, Kang would arrive and take the Core back, Ant-Man then demanded that Kang give him his daughter back, however, Kang told him that Cassie would be better off without him, going back on their deal. Angered, Ant-Man and Wasp tried to attack Kang, however Kang would swat them away with ease. As the others were fighting Kang, Pym was ambushed by M.O.D.O.K. who wanted to take revenge on his former mentor, crashing his ship and knocking Pym unconssious. As Janet attempted to reach Pym, Kang would use his Armor's powers to freeze her before taking both her and the Multiversal Engine Core with him.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "I built an empire down here, Janet. And I’m taking it with me. You really should’ve let me out when you had the chance."
- ―Kang the Conqueror to Janet van Dyne[src]
Now with the Multiversal Engine Core back to normal, Kang the Conqueror planned on teleporting himself the army he acquired in Axia, to attack the Council of Kangs for banishing him. However, Cassie Lang and Janet van Dyne freed trapped rebels, convince M.O.D.O.K. to become a hero, and help the citizens of Axia revolt against Kang, as Ant-Man, Hank Pym, and Wasp assaulted Kang's army. This weakened Kang enough to let the heroes escape the Quantum Realm, the rebels take back Axia from Kang, and with the help of Ant-Man and Wasp sabotaging the Multiversal Engine Core with shrinking and growing disks, and kicking Kang into it, leading to Kang's death.[1]
