"All of my inventions are in your lab."
"Then why is your mustache so sad?"
"I need you to steal one of them back."
Howard Stark and Peggy Carter[src]

The Theft of the Blitzkrieg Button was the attempt to steal the Blitzkrieg Button from the Strategic Scientific Reserve by Peggy Carter.

Background[]

"Every one of these inventions from my vault can cause large-scale destruction. Thankfully, they're not all active, but this one... This one is."
Howard Stark to Peggy Carter[src]

Howard Stark's inventions were stolen and put on the black market. The government believed he was selling to the enemy, which made him a fugitive. Stark tasked Peggy Carter and his butler, Edwin Jarvis, to find his weapons and clear his name. He gave Carter a Camera Pen and told her to go to the Strategic Scientific Reserve to sneak pictures of his technology being held there. She returned with the pictures.

Stark looked at the pictures and told Carter that she needed to get the Blitzkrieg Button, which was a rogue EMP that could make the whole city's electronics and lights go out for decades. On the way to the SSR, Carter noticed that Jarvis was worried. She began to question if she was being told the truth.[3]

Theft[]

"Just bring the device back as fast as you can, Miss Carter."

While Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa were distracted, Peggy Carter made her way to the Strategic Scientific Reserve labratory of the New York Bell Company Office and snuck inside. Carter switched out the Blitzkrieg Button with a fake one and made her way back outside the labratory.[3]

Once outside the labratory, Peggy Carter went to room 301 in the building to test something. Carter recalled her conversation with Edwin Jarvis, and did not believe that the Blitzkrieg Button was actually what Howard Stark said it was. Taking a risk, Carter flipped the switch on the Blitzkrieg Button and it oppened, revealing a vial of blood, which Carter suspected belonged to Steve Rogers.[3]

Howard Stark explaining to Peggy Carter

"I think you're a man out for his own gain no matter who you're charging. You are constantly finding holes to slither your way into in the hope of finding loose change, only to cry when you're bitten by another snake. You're a man who says, "I love you," whilst looking over a woman's shoulder into the mirror."
Peggy Carter to Howard Stark[src]

Peggy Carter returned to Howard Stark shaken. She asked him what was in the vial, to which Stark acted oblivious. He then revealed what Carter suspected, the last remaining sample of Steve Rogers' blood. Carter immediately punches him. When he woke up, Stark explained that they could make cures to diseases and other things with the blood. Carter snapped back saying that he just wanted it for the money. Stark asked if that was really what she thought of him. Carter then stormed out of the room, regretting helping Stark.[3]

Edwin Jarvis kept the vial for himself and told Stark that it had been destroyed once his nae was cleared. In actuality, he gave it to Carter saying that she was the only person who knew what she should do with it. Carter made her way to the Brooklyn Bridge and poured the blood into the river, saying goodbye to Rogers one last time.[4]
