Thor was forced to go to Earth and become a member of the Avengers when Loki took Gungnir and the Tesseract and tried to take over Midgard. With the help of Iron Man, Thor made his way through the Chitauri, who Loki summoned to Earth. Once the Chitauri were defeated, Thor fought Loki and got the Tesseract, which he used to close the portal.
