Tenochtitlan was an ancient city-state and the capital of the Aztec Empire, located in what is now Mexico City.
History[]
Fall of Tenochtitlan[]

The people of Tenochtitlan battle
Tenochtitlan was the capital city of the Aztec Empire. The Eternals went to Tenochtitlan as part of their mission from Arishem the Judge to fight of the Deviants. Meanwhile, Spain had arrived to conquer the Aztec Empire, leading to a battle occurring while the Eternals killed what they believed to be the last remaining Deviants on Earth. The Eternals regrouped as Druig saw Aztec villagers running through the forest, getting slaughtered by Spaniards. Druig commented to Phastos that helping humans advance was a bad idea and attempted to control their minds, but Ajak stopped him.

Meanwhile, Thena came to be under the influence of Mahd Wy'ry, causing her to attack the rest of the Eternals. Thena injured several Eternals and turned her attention to Ajak, who tried and failed to control Thena's affliction. Gilgamesh interfered and fought Thena, eventually knocking her unconscious.

Druig leads his people
The Eternals relocated to a temple, where Thena woke up, no longer under the influence of the Maid Wy'ry. Ajak told Thena that she would have to tell Arishem what happened, and that Thena's memories would have to be erased. The Eternals were divided on Ajak's decision, and Druig questioned Ajak's leadership. Druig decided to end the fighting with his ability to control minds and left with the controlled populations, forming a village, ending the battle. Gilgamesh agreed to take care of Thena without having to erase her memories, and Ajak told them to find their own purpose on Earth and report back to her about what that purpose is.
Spain eventually conquered Tenochtitlan and colonized the city.[1]
Trivia[]
- Although based on the Tenochtitlan pyramids of real life, the pyramids in the city are not an accurate depiction and even have some mayan architecture despite it being in the Aztec Empire.
