).Series vs First Season[]
- The following discussion is an archived discussion. Please do not modify it.
- All series require seasonal and general series pages. Therefore, all series have a first season, even if it is the only one. {{{sig}}}
While I realize it fits the format for the TV template, the wording "first season" is misleading here, as it implies there are more seasons to come. WandaVision and multiple other of the Disney+ series (Ex. FATWS) are mini-series/one shot stories, not intended or designed to have multiple seasons, with only one potential exception with Loki. "First season" makes sense in the context of the Netflix and ABC Television series because that's how those shows were designed to be presented, while the Disney+ series aren't. The only connection between them is the episodic format. Other than being episodic, the Netflix/ABC/etc. series are designed and produced very differently. The usage of "first season" just doesn't sound right.
My suggestion is simply to change "first season" to "series" whenever used on the main show page for Disney+ shows unless/until they are confirmed to have multiple seasons, Ex: "The series premiered on January 15, 2021 and concluded on March 5, 2021." Nothing else needs to be changed. It's literally a very simple one word change, but I think it makes a lot more sense. Usage of "Season One" is fine because that's how it's technically titled on Disney+, and it doesn't necessarily imply "Season Two", as much as first season implies a second season. The definition of first is, "coming before all others in time or order". First season just doesn't make sense grammatically in this context. Blatay (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- It is to keep consistency. Inhumans Season One doesn't mean there will be a Season Two, same goes for The Defenders, even when it was a miniseries. It is still labeled as Season One in Disney+ section. There is no problem with its current use. Marvelus (talk)) 19:44, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's what I said though. Refer back to my second paragraph, "Usage of "Season One" is fine because that's how it's technically titled on Disney+, and it doesn't necessarily imply "Season Two", as much as first season implies a second season. The definition of first is, "coming before all others in time or order". First season just doesn't make sense grammatically in this context." I said Season One doesn't imply Season Two, because there always has to be a "One". I even addressed directly that it's labeled as Season One on D+ for consistency. I'm talking specifically about the usage of the word "first", which is simply grammatically incorrect in the context it's used in the article. Blatay (talk) 19:54, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- And on a separate note just to address your other point, Inhumans was planned and intended to have multiple seasons and was cancelled. WandaVision is intended as a single season story, so I wouldn't say it's a necessarily fair comparison. In the terms of Defenders, the page itself actually even says "first and only season" on it, which should be the same case for WandaVision for consistency then.
