Change to the Way We Create Minor Pages

Hey everyone! So a very important topic among staff members recently was the treatment of when characters can get pages created (specifically stemming from all of these Peters here.) A majority of the staff members do not think it is a good idea to simply delete the pages because they do exist and should be treated as such. However, a good point as been brought up about quality control. Therefore, I have a hopeful solution. We create a List of Mentioned Characters (name pending) of characters who are merely mentioned yet do not have enough relevant information to be given a page. This way we can redirect their links to here and have all of their information in a single page. In doing this, we can allow information to be displayed about characters that we never allowed information about before such as characters from lists.

So in a double bar header, the character's redirect link will be added. Then under it is a paragraph of their information including nationality, powers and abilities, relationships and of course, biography. The incident that sparked this query was whether the 17 Peter Wisdom Variant pages need to exist when we don't have enough information beyond "they are the friend of [insert Deadpool]". On top of that, most of those pages exist because of the line "Every Deadpool has a Peter" but this creates a slippery slope; if any future Deadpool Variants are introduced, do we automatically create a Peter page for them? And as for the 17 Variant pages, we don't want to delete the information. And there are other mentioned characters who also fall under this. Eligibility

Voting eligibility requires site editors to have a certain level of productivity in order to participate in votes affecting the wiki and its community. Users who do not meet the eligibilty requirements will have any votes they cast stricken from the record by Staff members. Votes by any users whose accounts are younger than three (3) months, have fewer than seventy-five (75) valid edits (as defined below) or who are using sockpuppet accounts will not be counted.

In order to be eligible to vote, a user account must be at least three (3) months old and must have made at least seventy-five (75) constructive edits. Edits to userpages, talk pages or sandboxes do not count, nor do automated edits or edits that have been reverted or undone. A user who is blocked is also not allowed to cast votes for the entire duration of their block.

• I also support this. The 17 Peter Wisdom Variant pages are excessive and do not indicate a sense of good page quality for our wiki. This proposal to have Minor Mentioned Characters, which includes Peter Wisdom characters, on a "List of Mentioned Characters" page is a step in the right direction, a way to still cover information but also maintain wiki page quality. •   MJLogan95 | Message Wall • Contributions   19:36, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

• I agree with this as well, I think it would work great for situations like the seventeen different Peter Wisdoms, but also for names that appear in giant lists such as the names listed in Project Insight and the names of the Snap victims on the Wall of the Vanished. - Fish Master 41 (Message Wall) 21:54, August 12, 2024 (PST)

• I agree with this in the case of characters who would qualify for a page normally under Article Creation but would be repetitive like Peter Wisdom (and probably other Deadpools once the movie comes out), though I disagree with it applying to other typically white-linked characters like Snap victims. -Jessica3801 (talk) 00:25, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
