Just to put this out there: would What If... The Emergence Destroyed the Earth? possibly warrant a rename of this universe? Both universes feature a destroyed earth. Perhaps there could be a distinction like Graviton Destroyed Earth and Tiamut Destroyed Earth? MalchonC (talk) 09:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- I mean we have a universe called Super Soldier Peggy Carter Universe even though we have other universes (Earth-838) where Peggy Carter became a super soldier. • MJLogan95 | Message Wall • Contributions 09:28, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah but both Destroyed Earth universes have the destroyed Earth as a main difference, and for Marvel Studios fans that are not so much audiences of the old Marvel Television, "Destroyed Earth" may correspond more to this new episode which exactly has these two words in the title. - We should not be renaming universes. It gets way too messy. Albeit this was a question I asked Shabook, who is not with us anymore, but he was the one that started the naming schemes and I asked him about Corrupted Doctor Strange and Super Soldier Peggy Carter and he was saying how it is a main characteristic of that universe and I agree. The Tiamut episode is bound to have other qualities. It's just the way it is. In short summary, we should not be renaming designated universes. - Raff • Message Wall • Contributions 03:12, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think we should ever be against renaming designated universes. If there is a justifiable reason to rename a previously designated universe, then it should be discussed. That being said, I agree that the upcoming Emergence episode may have another significant differentiative that could be used, allowing this to retain its name. This universe revolves around the Earth being destroyed, and is more significant than whatever shall transpire in this 20-something minute singular episode. • MJLogan95 | Message Wall • Contributions 03:35, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Having seen the episode, my belief was affirmed that we do need to rename this universe, especially because of the multiple scenes of the Earth torn into pieces, which are the embodiment of "Destroyed Earth" just as much as what's in this universe. Having this universe as "Destroyed Earth" is in clear violation of the policy that "Name must be unique, as it should not be able to be applied to two different universes." (which I'm aware that Super Soldier Peggy Carter Universe also breaks, but that should be its own problem).
- Regarding "revolving around the Earth being destroyed", I would say this episode revolves just as much around it as AoS S5, since the whole reason behind the events is that the Earth is destroyed, leading to the reshuffle of the world order. It just leads into a different direction, AoS leading to the Krees taking the Earth and WI leading to the Mysterio. And about whether or not the AoS universe is "more significant" than the WI one, screen time is just one of the many perspectives of looking at it. Now that we know that what Uatu does to this WI universe may be a key part of the arc of the whole season, it gets significant really fast, doesn't it. MalchonC (talk) 17:56, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- We definitely do not need to rename this universe. There are other nthings we can use to name the current universe and that ruling is different when a name was already decided before hand. - Raff • Message Wall • Contributions 18:27, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- Well, since the WI universe is now "Emergence Destroyed Earth", it'd be weird if this one remains just as "Destroyed Earth". MalchonC (talk) 06:14, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't particularly find it weird. I think this can remain as "Destroyed Earth". • MJLogan95 | Message Wall • Contributions 11:27, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Nevertheless, the policy still says a name should not apply to two universes. As it doesn't specify that the rule should only be carried out for universes yet to be named, nor that universes already named can't be renamed, I don't see how this universe can just be an exception to the rules. I've always liked that this wiki does things consistently and rigorously, so I'd hate to see this fell apart with exceptions here and there. MalchonC (talk) 07:24, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- It says ideally. There have been instances before where a name has been applicable to two universes: Super Soldier Peggy Carter for instance, or Age of Ultron, especially the latter even more so with the Infinity Ultron in S3. • MJLogan95 | Message Wall • Contributions 15:50, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- I think the name is fine as is, we have the link at the top of the page that links to the Emergence Destroyed Earth Universe page and one on that page that links to this page if there is any confusion. - Fish Master 41 (talk) 21:18, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
