Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a country in Asia, in the Pacific Ocean, near Mainland China.

World War II[]
The Republic of China was one of the Allied countries during World War II. The flag of the Republic of China was displayed with other flags of Allied nations on the Stark Expo in 1943. In 1949, the government of the Republic of China lost control of the mainland to the Communist Party of China and fled to Taiwan, resulting in the formation of two China's – the People's Republic of China, commonly referred to as Mainland China or China, and the Republic of China, known as Taiwan.[1]

In 2016, a S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by Phil Coulson and Glenn Talbot arrived to Taipei, Taiwan for the Symposium on Alien Contagion of various world leaders organized by U.S. President Matthew Ellis. Coulson and Talbot attended the reception before the talks, enabling Coulson, who posed as expert Sean Lundwall, to scan the palm prints of the delegates and have access to their rooms.
The Symposium on Alien Contagion begins
Indeed, in parallel of the Symposium, a S.H.I.E.L.D. team comprising of Melinda May, Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, accompanied by Carl Creel, infiltrated the building where the delegates where residing, searching for proof of a connection with Hydra leader Gideon Malick or of hidden Inhumans. During the talks, Russian delegate Anton Petrov suggested to create an Inhuman Sanctuary, which received the approval of several other delegates.
The Symposium went wrong for S.H.I.E.L.D., however, as it turned out that Malick blackmailed Talbot as he had kidnapped his son George, forcing Talbot to order Coulson's arrest. However, Talbot was soon betrayed by Malick in his turn. Both Coulson and Talbot nearly got killed by Hydra, but they were rescued by Creel. In the meantime, the S.H.I.E.L.D. team successfully fought against the Hydra operatives, leading to the liberation of George.[2]
