"In my culture, death is not the end. They are still with us, as long as we do not forget them."
―Black Panther to Spider-Man[src]

King T'Challa was the King of Wakanda who was chosen to be the holder of the Black Panther mantle. Black Panther was called upon by the Avengers, as they tried to neutralize a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, only for Black Panther to be kidnapped by Vision to be fed to the undead Wanda Maximoff, costing him a leg. He was rescued by the Zombie Outbreak Survivor Group, and together with Spider-Man and Scott Lang, they aimed to travel to Wakanda to use the Mind Stone as a cure for the zombies. Upon entering Wakanda, T'Challa sacrificed his life to stop the infected Thanos from using the Infinity Gauntlet against the universe.

Avengers What If...?

T'Challa arrives in San Francisco

In 2018, a virus known as the Quantum Virus spread throughout the United States of America causing those infected to become zombies. In response, T’Challa left Wakanda to aid the Avengers and travelled with Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Clint Barton, and Natasha Romanoff via Quinjet to San Francisco, California. However, upon arriving on the Golden Gate Bridge, they were overwhelmed by a horde of zombies. Before T'Challa could be infected, Vision captured him, and brought him to Camp Lehigh, New Jersey. There, T’Challa found out that Vision had saved him only to slowly and steadily feed him to Wanda Maximoff, who had became a zombie.

Bucky Barnes & T'Challa

T'Challa gets help from Bucky Barnes

Two weeks later, Bucky Barnes found T’Challa lying in a dark room on a bunk bed and missing his right leg. T’Challa was relieved to see Barnes, and was helped to walk over to another section of the base where he saw the other survivors, including Okoye, Bruce Banner, Scott Lang, Peter Parker, and Kurt Goreshter. T'Challa told them what happened with Vision, much to their disapproval. Shortly, Maximoff broke out of her containment cell and attacked them, killing Goreshter. Banner pleaded with Vision to let them escape, and after Vision created an escape route, Barnes and Parker helped T’Challa leave.

Black Panther & Spider-Man

T'Challa is helped by Parker to the Quadjet

Outside the base, T’Challa watched in horror as Maximoff infected Okoye. After Vision informed them of a Quadjet in the hangar, Barnes told them to keep going as he would confront Maximoff. Parker then helped T’Challa to the jet, with Lang and the Cloak of Levitation following. T'Challa got into the pilot seat and tried to get the Quadjet started, but the engine was stalling at first. After Vision had removed the Mind Stone, T’Challa watched as Banner brought the Stone to Parker and tasked him with holding it.

Spider-Man & Black Panther

T’Challa then watched as Banner turned into the Hulk and engaged Maximoff in a fight. T’Challa then was able to fly the Quadjet away. As they were flying past the base, a zombified Hope van Dyne, in giant form, grabbed the jet. T’Challa applied the thrusters, freeing them from her grasp, and allowing them to continue their travel to Wakanda.

Spider-Man, Scott Lang & T'Challa

T'Challa, Lang, and Parker in the Quadjet

The next morning, T’Challa comforted Parker, after seeing how he was dismayed over all the losses, and told him how Wakandans don't view death as the end and the people they love are still with them. They then arrived into Wakanda with the intent to use the Mind Stone to broadcast its frequency to cure the virus.[1]

Battle of Wakanda[]
