Biography[]
Planning a Mass[]
Stone became the captain of a passenger ship. He set sail for a voyage on June 17, 1893, and learned that one of his passengers was qualified to preach at a mass. The following day, a Sunday, Stone sent an officer to deliver his compliments to the preacher and ask if he could preach at the service. The preacher agreed and approached Stone, asking if it would be agreed, and Stone gave permission. However, worried about how long it would take, Stone put a condition on his permission that the preacher must be brief. The mass was held, and Stone continued to maneuver the ship through rough waters.[1]
