History[]
Stark Industries[]
Kidnapping of Tony Stark[]
- "What I did was to save your life. I removed all the shrapnel I could; there's a lot left and it's headed into your atrial septum."
- ―Ho Yinsen to Tony Stark[src]
In 2008, Tony Stark was being escorted in a Humvee alongside some soldiers. However, their humvees were attacked by the Ten Rings, who were looking for Stark. Adam Pratt, Ramirez, and Jimmy Ryan left the humvee to attack, but they were shot down and killed. Stark hid behind some rocks and pulled out his phone, calling for some backup, but a Fragmentation Shell landed right beside him. Realizing this, Stark tried to get out of the way, but was blown away by the explosion, leaving Stark injured as some of the shell left some shrapnel near his heart. Stark was then taken by the Ten Rings to their outpost as their prisoner.[1]
Alternate Universes[]
Rescue of Tony Stark[]
In an alternate universe, Tony Stark was attacked by the Ten Rings, who had killed his escorts. Stark hid behind rocks as a Fragmentation Shell landed right beside him, but Erik Killmonger intervened, throwing the Fragmentation Shelll, saving Stark's life.[2]
Stark Munitions[]
In an alternate universe, a Stark Industries Fragmentation Shell was produced in Denver, Colorado by Stark Munitions and labeled as such on the side. The grenade was then sold to the Ten Rings, who used it to attack a convoy accompanying Tony Stark. A shell was launched at Stark, who had enough time to read the label and recognize the batch number, identifying where it was made. Stark attempted to escape, but the shell blew up and injured him, allowing the Ten Rings to take him hostage.[3]
SUSM 11676[]
- "USM 11676 STARK MUNITIONS"
- ―Writing on the Stark Industries Fragmentation Shell[src]
The Stark Industries Fragmentation Shell was developed by Stark Industries under the writing “Stark Munitions” and was intended to be sold to the United States Armed Forces. However, Ten Rings acquired one and launched it during their attack on the convey of Humvees carrying Tony Stark. It landed near Stark and exploded, launching shrapnel into his body. The shrapnel embedded itself into his body near his heart. The Ten Rings then kidnapped him, taking him back to their base.[4]
Design and Capabilities[]
The Stark Industries Fragmentation Shell is a timed missile. Upon landing, a preset timer activates within the missile, designated by its beeping. Once its timer deactivates, the missile detonates.
