"This company makes weapons. It is your family legacy."
Obadiah Stane to Tony Stark[src]

Stark Industries is a weapons company founded by Howard Stark that was one of the most notable manufacturers until Tony Stark made a unilateral decision to shut down their weapons manufacturing in order to focus on more helpful business tactics. This caused a stir with Obadiah Stane, causing him to allow a merger with A.I.M. to continue to make dealings.

History[]

Premiere Weapons Company[]

"Your father understood business."
Obadiah Stane to Tony Stark[src]

Stark Industries was founded by Howard Stark, who worked with Obadiah Stane. When Howard passed, his son, Tony Stark filled the void and made weapons unlike anything ever seen before. In that time, a man named Mark Scarlotti worked for the company, but was eventually fired, fueling hatred for Tony.[1]

"Legacies change. People change. Maybe it's time for a new company."
Tony Stark to Obadiah Stane[src]

Tony Stark was kidnapped by the Ten Rings. Upon his return, he had a change of mind as he realized how his actions of selling weapons had caused terrorists to have access to them. Therefore, he instantly shut down the weapons manufacturing program at the company, their major source of income. This angered Obadiah Stane greatly. He and Stark subsequently had an argument where Stark did not want to hear it, even going as far as to take his mind elsewhere as he started working on J.A.R.V.I.S. Nevertheless, Stark was adamant that his word was final.[1]

Tony Stark and Obadiah Stane[src]

Due to their canceling of all foreseeable business transactions, Stark Industries Headquarters was attacked by the angry organization known as the Maggia, one of the companies biggest allies. During the attack, Iron Man found that they were trying to steal company technology. Therefore, he demanded that they destroyed their remaining inventory. Obadiah Stane tried to argue, but was once again left in the dust.[1]

Merger[]

"Your company is under siege, so is mine. Groups like the Maggia have become a serious problem. They want what you and I have."
Obadiah Stane to A.I.M. President[src]

Obadiah Stane eventually found a suit of armor that Tony Stark used to escape captivity and had an idea. He called A.I.M., a rival company, and suggested a merger. Therefore, he could still deal weapons with A.I.M. and they would give him a suit of his own.[1]

"Imagine what the Pentagon could do with an army of Iron Men."
"And imagine what the bad guys could do."

Having defeated the Maggia, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts went through company records and found none other than A.I.M. at the top. This opened up Stark's mind to the fact that A.I.M. was behind a lot of events. Therefore, he attacked them back. Eventually, Obadiah Stane was forced to reveal his dealings, setting the tied for clashes within the company.[1]

With A.I.M. also being dealt with by Iron Man, he turned his attention to Obadiah Stane, who had finished his Iron Monger Armor. Making a final move of his plan, Stane attacked Stark Industries Headquarters, forcing Iron Man into action. In the end, Stane was caught in an explosion of the Arc Reactor powering the headquarters, killing him.[1]
