Bruce Banner returned to Willowdale having spent five years away and visited Stanley Lieber at the end of the night, who was surprised by his presence and allowed him to enter his parlor even though he had just closed for the day. Lieber agreed to give him a place to stay upstairs for a while and, as they sat down for a catch-up, Banner insisted that everything Thaddeus Ross and the government had said regarding his fugitive status was untrue, with Lieber responding that he had never believed the news regarding Banner. They then briefly discussed Ross and her relationship with Leonard Samson before Lieber agreed to grant Banner some pizza in order to infiltrate the university as a pizza delivery man and recover the Project Gamma Pulse data.

Using Lieber's pizzas, Banner went to Culver University and bribed his way to the computer room, only to find that the data had been deleted. At that night, Samson and Betty went to Stanley's Pizza Parlor to get dinner together, although Lieber was closing up he agreed to feed the pair. While they waited for their food and enjoyed a long conversation, Banner prepared to go on the run again, however, he was unaware that Betty was there. As Banner headed downstairs, he came into the dining room where Ross caught a glimpse of his.

This forced Banner to quickly run outside and hide behind the dumpster, desperate to not be seen by Ross, as he still believed that bringing her into his situation would put her in grave danger. Convinced about what she had seen, Ross came out searching for him. Banner remained hidden as Leonard Samson followed to learn what Ross was looking for. Eventually, they both went back inside to question Lieber, allowing Banner to slip away into the night.[1]

Stanley Lieber was once a student at Culver University who took at job at Goodman's Pizza and was a good friend of Marty Goodman, the owner. Years later, Stanley took over and renamed the restaurant as Stanley's Pizza Parlor. The restaurant eventually became the big hangout for students. Bruce Banner worked there when he was a student, with Lieber hoping that Banner would follow in his footsteps and take over the restaurant.[2]

While at Culver University, Natasha Romanoff spoke with Betty Ross and suspected that Bruce Banner was there because of pizza boxes from Stanley's Pizza Parlor on a table.[3]
