The Sokovian Memorial is a monument built in memory of victims of the Battle of Sokovia in the wake of the partition of the country between its neighboring states.
History[]
Creation[]
- "I heard what became of Sokovia. Cannibalized by its neighbors before the land was even cleared of rubble, erased from the map. I don't suppose any of you bothered visiting the memorial? Of course not. Why would you?"
- ―Helmut Zemo to Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes[src]
The Sokovian memorial was erected to honor the memory of the Sokovians who died during the Battle of Sokovia. It notably featured a large statue depicting a traditional Sokovian family in its center. Even though the country of Sokovia no longer formally existed after its territory was partitioned between neighboring countries, the memorial was the only official remaining landmark of Sokovia.[2]
Arrest of Baron Zemo[]
- "I thought you would be here sooner."
- ―Helmut Zemo to Bucky Barnes[src]
Having escaped from Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson and the Dora Milaje, Helmut Zemo traveled to the Sokovian Memorial to pay his respects for his deceased family. He was however tracked down by Barnes, even though Zemo commented that he thought Barnes would arrive sooner. Zemo believed that Barnes would execute him in the memorial, but Barnes revealed that he had emptied his gun, and instead chose to turn Zemo over to a group of Dora Milaje warriors led by Ayo. The Dora Milaje thus flew away from the Memorial with Zemo in their custody with the intent of bringing him to the Raft. Before Ayo left, Barnes asked her to have a new version of the Captain America's Uniform to be created by the Wakandan Design Group for Wilson.[3]
