Smith Motors is a lab located in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico. It was used by Jane Foster to monitor Thor's arrival on Earth, among other topics. Its contents were eventually confiscated by S.H.I.E.L.D., with the objective being led by Phil Coulson.

After a brief discussion with Thor as to whether the group would help him reclaim Mjølnir or not, Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy Lewis began to walk back to their research base. As they were turning a street corner, a truck passed by carrying Foster's equipment. In quick pursuit, the group found that S.H.I.E.L.D. had confiscated everything within the building.
Foster desperately pleaded with Phil Coulson to return her claimed items, saying that she wouldn't be able to recreate her work without her notebook. Coulson denied her request, with an agent quickly grabbing her book shortly after. Coulson thanked her for her cooperation and exited the area.
The group sat atop the building discussing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s actions both then and in the past. Erik Selvig mentioned that he had known a pioneer in gamma radiation that had disappeared following an investigation by the agency. Foster replied, saying that she wouldn't let S.H.I.E.L.D. get rid of them. Selvig suggested contacting one of his colleagues who had dealings with the agency before, to which Lewis informed him that his laptop was also taken.[1]
