Sky World is an inhabited location that has a connection with the Forbidden Lake. It is characterized by a blue energy whose "spirit" seeps into everything in the environment. When Sky World's inhabitants eat items imbued with these spirits, the blue energy becomes part of them, enabling them to perform superhuman feats such as elemental manipulation, running at high velocities, forcefield projection, and superhuman strength and dexterity.

Trivia[]

  • Sky World was inspired by conversations between the writers on What If...? and indigenous Americans in which it was said that belief systems often incorporated a world in the sky where people originated.[2]
  • The comics feature a similar location known as Giizhigong ("Sky" or "Heaven" in the Ojibwe language), a pocket dimension and spiritual plane that was home to the Manidoog, a collective of gods that were worshipped by North America's indigenous peoples. The environment of Giizhigoing was also permeated by a mystical energy known as Orenda which granted the inhabitants of the realm superhuman powers and abilities.
