- "Yeah. That man, he just loved peaches. Everybody should, uh, love something... that much."
- ―Skully[src]
Skully is the owner of Skully's Pawn Shop. Despite having ended his relationship with Chula Battiest, he still loved Maya Lopez and welcomed her when she returned to Tamaha, often helping her with things like fixing and eventually creating a new prosthetic leg for her.
Biography[]
Dating Chula Battiest[]
A Fateful Night[]
- "Ancestors whispering in your ear again? Well, why don’t you ask ’em for something good like, Powerball?"
- ―Skully to Chula Battiest[src]
Skully and his lover, Chula Battiest, went to the Battiest Residence where they sat by the campfire with William Lopez and Taloa Lopez. Skully told the story of how Biscuits' dad, who loved peach pie, grabbed one of the pies and ran into the river with it naked. He briefly stopped to ask Battiest how to say "man" in american sign language so he could talk to the deaf Taloa. He then ended his story saying that everyone should love something as much as Biscuits' father loved peaches.
On the way out of the driveway, Battiest mentioned how Biscuits would be sad he was not there. Skully said he would get over it in a few days. It started pouring while they were driving, but Skully was unbothered and sang to himself. He then noticed that Batiest seemed very worried and asked if the ancestors were whispering to her. He then made a joke, saying she should make a wish for something good like Powerball. Battiest's worries came true as they soon found out that Taloa and Maya Lopez were in a car accident and Taloa did not make it.[2]
An Ending Relationship[]
- "You know, she’s really hurting."
"We all are." - ―Skully and William Lopez[src]
Skully and Chula Battiest met with William Lopez in the hospital the next day. Skully asked how Maya Lopez was, but William said he had not told her of Taloa Lopez's death yet. Skully watched as Battiest and William argued over the responsibility of Taloa's death, with Battiest blaming William. Skully tried to get Battiest to leave, but she refused. Battiest then told William to leave Tamaha, before she wlaked away. Skully assured William that she was only just grieving. William told him that they all were. As Battiest dealt with her grief, Skully and her eventually broke up but maintained good relations.[2]
Owning a Pawn Shop[]
Sewing Machines[]
- "Well, when you brought it in, I cleaned it and oiled it. Put, uh... Put a nice blanket on it. I knew you’d come back for it, I just had to wait."
- ―Skully to Chula Battiest[src]
Skully owned a pawn shop in Tamaha where he kept many Choctaw artifacts as well as any other items he could get his hands on. One day, Chula Battiest walked in and sold him a sewing machine as she did not want it anymore. Instead of putting it for sale, Skully cleaned, oiled and stored it as he knew Battiest would be back for it sooner or later.[3]
Maya Lopez's Return[]
Helping Biscuits[]
In 2025, Skully was at his pawn shop while he tried to sell some antiques to some out of towners. He used manipulation of the ancestors' words to try to get them to buy it, but the customers would not budge. They asked for stuff like Navajo rugs. Luckily, Biscuits entered the store and tried to help Skully, saying how all of those were from Madripoor. Although Skully tried to sign to him to go away, Biscuits talked up Skully, trying to get him the sale. The couple was convinced and took the sale.
Skully then went to his desk and attempted to fix a machine, which he could not. Just before he went to break it with a hammer, he said goodbye to the customers. Biscuits then walked up to him with many things in his hand. Skully pointed at the camera and said that he had better cameras than that. Biscuits said he did not need better, but smaller. Skully pulled out a GoPro, but Biscuits wanted it smaller. Skully did that, but it needed to be even smaller. Skully then brought out a wire camera, which Biscuits said was good. Skully got worried about the set of items Biscuits was buying.[1]
Making a New Leg[]
- "Yeah, well, uh... I really miss you around here. 20 years is... way too long."
- ―Skully to Maya Lopez[src]
Skully went back to work where he was approached by none other than Maya Lopez, whon had returned after twenty years. She showed him her broken prosthetic and claimed to have gotten it caught in something. She then showed him a photo of what she wanted it to look like, so he asked for his slip-joint pliers. He then said he missed her, but Lopez told him it was not her choice. He then went to go make a makeshift leg.
Skully took the leg and went to work, using many things like foam and even parts of a bike frame. He also took pieces of metal and a lamp frame. Once he was done, he patted himself on the back and brought it to Lopez. In the end, he simply reinforced the parts that were broken but assured her that he would make a brand new one and the replacement was only temporary. She thanked him. On her way out, Lopez saw a sculpture of Chafa, the first Choctaw. Skully explained her story and how Chula Battiest could trace her roots back to her. He also explained how ancestors would watch out for family in times of need.[1]
Talking with Chula[]
- "I didn’t come here to get leg-humped by some old rez dog like you."
"Ah, you used to melt like butter when I talked Indian to you." - ―Chula Battiest and Skully[src]
Skully saw on the monitor that Chula Battiest was trying to get into the shop. He let her in and playfully posed for her, but Battiest told him not to give her that look. Skully tried to flirt with Battiest, to no avail as she simply said that Maya Lopez was back. Skully had her follow him. He then jokingly kept flirting until Battest handed him a pawn card, showing how Biscuits sold his Playstation 4, likely at the cost of something to do with Lopez.
Battiest worried about the trouble Lopez brought, which Skully said she did not know Lopez. Battiest claimed that Skully had not seen her anymore than she had. When Skully got quiet, Battiest realized that Skully had seen Lopez already. Battiest then asked what she was up to, but Skully said it was not for him to say. Skully then tried to tell Battiest that her and Lopez were alike. Skully brutally told Battiest that she had lost her daughter and she had to swallow her pride before she lost her granddaughter too. Battiest claimed she could not talk to her, so Skully said she did not have to but instead should listen for once. This made Battiest walk out.[4]
Delivering the Leg[]
- "You represent your people. That means... a Choctaw Warrior."
- ―Skully to Maya Lopez[src]
Skully went back to making a new leg for Maya Lopez and finished it. He then arrived at the Battiest Residence to see Lopez there. He smiled at her and brought out the leg, proud of his work. Skully simply showed the frame of the leg, which was very rich in meaning and symbolism. He noticed Lopez's face and asked if she liked it. Lopez admitted she preferred a more simpler look. He told her that she lived in New York and represents her people, which made her a Choctaw warrior.
Skully then said if she did not like it, he could paint it matte black. However, Lopez said to keep it as it is. She then laughed and said she would just wear pants over it, but told him she was just teasing. She then put on the new leg and frame. Skully said that he does not get into family business but asked if Lopez would go see Chula Battiest. Lopez simply said that Battiest did not want to see her. Skully claimed Battiest's heart was broken and even left the house the way it was. Lopez said that she could have called anytime but did not. Skully told her that they all do things they wish were different.[4]
An Old Memory[]
- "How much do I owe you?"
"Nothing. Just promise me you’ll come back once in a while." - ―Chula Battiest and Skully[src]
Skully was met by Chula Battiest and immediately started flirting again, but Battiest said she was on business. She then asked if he still had the sewing machine from years ago. Skully brought it out, saying how he cleaned it up and stored it, knowing Battiest would be back one day for it. She asked how much, but Skully simply said it was free as long as she came back every once in a while.[3]
