"We're in this together. You and me against the world, right? How many times have we said we want a chance to do something incredible? Well, this is it. And it comes with a ton of money."
―Seth Dormer to Donnie Gill[src]

Seth Dormer was a student at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology who, together with Donnie Gill, designed the Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device and attempted to sell it to Ian Quinn. However, the deal was interrupted by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Dormer was killed by the storm caused by the device he and Gill created.

Deal with Ian Quinn[]

"It's competitive here, but we usually don't resort to knocking each other off. This isn't Operations. No offense."
―Seth Dormer to Grant Ward[src]

Seth Dormer was one of the most brilliant students at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology who came into contact with his fellow student, Donnie Gill. Together they had an idea to design the innovating freezing device; however, Dormer decided to keep it a secret from S.H.I.E.L.D. and then sell it to Ian Quinn who worked with his father. However, Dormer and Gill had a bad time to establish the device, as they were unable to fix the malfunction.

Dormer proposed to cause an accident in the Academy, knowing that S.H.I.E.L.D. will most likely summon Leo Fitz to encourage the student and investigate the accident. After a particularly difficult test, Dormer and two of his friends went to the indoor pool of the Academy, where Gill was studying. While having a swim, a freezing device was activated, instantly freezing the pool and trapping Dormer's leg, which he managed to liberate with Gill's help.

Seth-Dormer-Questioned

As Dormer predicted, Anne Weaver contacted Fitz, as well as Jemma Simmons to be consulted in the investigation, as the device was one of their early designs. Dormer had a plan to contact with Fitz and learn how to fix the malfunction of the device. While they were giving a talk about the potential to calm down the cadets, Grant Ward questioned Dormer as the victim of the attack, who pointed Gill as a suspect as he was the only cadet he did not consider his friend due to Gill's lack of social abilities.[1]

Creating a Storm[]

"Donnie, you need to grow a pair. All right? Now you can't bail on me now. We have one chance to impress Mr. Quinn, and now he's our only way out. We can't turn back after what we did back there."
―Seth Dormer to Donnie Gill[src]

After Leo Fitz helped Donnie Gill resolving a problem with a power source, unknowing Gill's true intentions, Jemma Simmons and the rest of the Coulson's Team discovered that Dormer and Gill were behind the attacks, and wanted Fitz's help with the power issue to make a bigger version of the Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device. Dormer contacted with Ian Quinn, who secretly financed and provided rare and expensive materials for their research into freezing technology.

When Fitz returned to Gill's room, Dormer knocked him unconscious with an Ionized Air Cannon, and the two headed for their rendezvous with Quinn. The tycoon, however, wanted the whole process completed without S.H.I.E.L.D.'s knowledge and said he was pulling out. To try to salvage their disastrous situation, Dormer promised an immediate, awe-inspiring demonstration. Quinn agreed but then turned back anyway, leaving the area around the Academy in the grip of a super-storm unleashed by the impact of Gill's untested machine on the local weather.[1]

Death[]

Dormer is killed by a lightning strike

"My only friend is dead because of me."
Donnie Gill[src]

When he grasped how dangerous it had become, Donnie Gill attempted to shut the experiment down, and he finally persuaded Dormer to help. It is, however, already too late, and a lightning strike to the device while they are in the midst of repairs killed Dormer. Although Coulson's Team tried to reanimate him, the injuries caused by the strike were too serious to survive. After his death, Gill felt guilty of the death of his only friend.[1]
