"Val, you put a serum into someone like Steve Rogers, he becomes Captain America, but you do it to someone this unstable, I mean, who knows what it did to him."
"That's why we built in safeguards. Didn't we make the kill switch?"
Mel Gold and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine[src]

The Sentry Kill Switch is a device designed to kill Sentry.

History[]

Design[]

During the course of conducting Project Sentry, Sentry's potential power levels were evaluated. In order to maintain control of Sentry, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine developed safeguards which included a kill switch to instantly kill Sentry at the push of a button.[1]

Used on Bob Reynolds[]

When Valentina Allegra de Fontaine realized that Bob Reynolds had survived the Project Sentry project, she took him to the Watchtower where he was put under observation. When Mel Gold observed Reynolds' mental state, she warned de Fontaine about the dangers of giving an unstable man uncontrollable power. When de Fontaine heard this, she reminded Gold that they had developed a kill switch and ordered the kill switch be brought into her possession.[1]

Deciding to reveal Sentry to the Thunderbolts, de Fontaine had them brought to the top of the Watchtower where she revealed Reynolds. She then ordered Sentry to fight the Thunderbolts. When Sentry had beaten them, de Fontaine ordered Sentry to kill them. When Sentry would not comply, the Thunderbolts fled and Sentry questioned why he had to follow de Fontaine's orders when he possessed the powers of a god. Hearing this, de Fontaine attempted to kill Sentry by using the kill switch. However, before she could press the button, she was overpowered by Sentry who began suffocating her, leading her to drop the kill switch. Before de Fontaine could be killed, Gold appeared and acquired the kill switch, pressing the button causing Sentry to fall to the ground. Although Gold and de Fontaine believed Sentry to be deceased, the switch did not kill Sentry, but instead only disabled him for a short time.[1]

Capabilities[]

The Sentry Kill Switch was designed by Project Sentry as a safeguard against potential resistance by any future Sentry. The kill switch was a metal device with a circular red pushable button on one end. The device, although developed and created under the belief that it would kill Sentry, was only capable of temporarily disabling him for a short span of time.[1]
