- "For hundreds of years, that scarf has protected the identity of warriors willing to take on the mantle of the Red Dagger. Our function is simple: to protect our people from threats of the unseen."
- ―Waleed to Kamala Khan
Seeing Red is the fourth episode of the first season of Ms. Marvel.
Synopsis[]
Kamala travels around the world to solve the mystery of the bangle and her family's history.
Plot[]
Kamala Khan sits on an airplane to Pakistan with her mother. The man next to her asks if it's her first time going to Pakistan. Muneeba Khan sits two seats away saying that they are only going because Sana Ali insisted. Khan texts Nakia Bahadir to see if she's okay. When they arrive in Karachi, they are greeted by Zainab and Owais, Kamala's cousins. She then sees her grandmother and hugs her. Ali then welcomes her daughter, Muneeba, home.
At Ali's house, Kamala walks into a room with many paintings. She looks around in awe at how very skilled of an artist her grandmother was. Kamala takes out the bangle and asks Ali why she sent it to her. Ali explains that Kamala is a Djinn. She says that the bangle saved her life during Partition. When Kamala goes to bed, she has memories of what happened the other night. She wakes up to see her cousins above her, saying that they are going out to eat. Afterwards, she goes to the market and buys a dress for five hundred rupees. She asks to check out the train station. Her cousins leave her because they don't want to go. Kamala suddenly has her picture taken by a stranger, who offers to give her the picture for 1,500 rupees. She gives him more, asking him to give her directions to the station.
Kamala arrives at the station when she is suddenly attacked by a man, who throws a knife at her. She fights the man while he toys with her. He notices that she has the bangle and asks how she got it from Aisha and asks if she is a Clandestines. He then drags her away before more men come. The man takes her to a kitchen of a restaurant where he reveals a secret entrance to what he calls the Order of the Red Daggers, a title passed down through many warriors, which he now takes. Another man named Waleed greets her. He explains the Noor Dimension and that it practically co-exists with Earth.
At Damage Control's Supermax prison, Kamran, Najma, Fariha, Saleem, and Aadam are dragged through the prison. Fariha breaks free and helps everyone escape. As they leave, Najma orders Saleem to leave Kamran, as he has made his choice. Meanwhile, Kamala has a talk with her grandmother. After the talk, she meets with her cousins and their friends, one being Kareem, the Red Dagger. She asks if the food is spicy, as she has trouble eating spicy food. At Ali's house, an annoyed Muneeba cleans up and asks why it's so messy before she massages Ali's hurt leg. She then suggests that Ali moves to America. Ali retorts she thought her daughter wanted to get away from her by moving to America. Muneeba responds she simply needed a change. They then get into an argument over Ali's seemingly outrageous theories and stories. Muneeba explains that Ali focused on the stories rather than her daughter.
The following day, Waleed teaches Kamala how to use her powers effectively. They are suddenly attacked by the Clandestines, who drop from the ceiling. Kareem leads them out of the building and into a vehicle where they embark on a car chase. Their tiny cart is no match for Najma's truck, which easily catches up to them. Kamala uses her powers to flip the truck onto its side. Waleed unhinges the bike from the cart sending Kareem and Kamala away, they crash into the ground while Waleed stays behind to fight off the Clandestines. Kamala jumps into a truck and drives away. She crashes into Saleem just before he catches Kareem. Waleed finds Najma on the rooftop and throws two daggers at Saleem, killing him. Najma then stabs him in the back as retaliation. Kareem and Kamala quickly escape in shock.
They run into a store and battle Fariha and Aadam for a short while until Najma joins the fight. Kareem kills Aadam in the scuffle. Najma tries to stab Kamala, but hits the bangle, which transports Kamala back in time to 1947 during Partition, the night Aisha left. Kamala sees the commotion and jumps onto one of the trains, seeing into the distance of everyone trying to escape.
