Scars is the seventh episode of the first season of the television series Helstrom.
Synopsis[]
With a powerful demon looking for a new host and Ana struggling to control her darker urges, Daimon is offered a proposition from The Blood. Caretaker finds himself in hot water, and Dr. Hastings rattles Daimon with new revelations about his past.
Plot[]
Twenty years ago, a young Ana Helstrom is in a room alone while outside Caretaker and Dr. Hastings finds themselves discussing what they should do about the child. Ana has an ability that makes people faint and feel like they are dying just from a touch. Caretaker suggests that they keep the children apart because they might become like their father if raised together. Louise asks Caretaker to take Ana, but she is in the system already so he will check on her while Louise takes care of the boy. A young Ana stares at the two way mirror that she can not see through but she shatters it, scaring Dr. Hastings in the process.
In the present, Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health is getting fixed up from the attack earlier. Daimon and Ana argue about what happened. He is upset that they lost Mom and that he believed Ana that the guy was Dad. Rosetti and Dr. Hastings have a quick chat outside. Just when Rosetti is about to go in, she hears banging from a nearby car. She opens to find Spivey's wife in the trunk. Instead of actually working together, the siblings instead play the blame game. Ana does not think Victoria Helstrom was ever around, and Daimon was affected by the hope of resurrecting her. Dr. Hastings tries to calm the two but Ana wants her out of their family business. Daimon considers Dr. Hastings as a family. Ana decides to quit on her brother and leaves, but not without taking Yen along with her.
Somewhere on a dock, the possessed priest arrives to decrepit-looking boat by the name of Garibaldi II, with a bag full of drugs. Mother mentions that the priest should have brought the body for Basar. The priest speaks his mind about leaving Basar, which was the half body left of Spivey, which does not go well because Basar is her oldest son. Mother insists on caring for her son. The priest mentions that Basar will not be able to mark another because of the damage inflicted, nor will he be able to regenerate, so he will die soon. Mother says there is already someone marked for him.
Dr. Hastings fixes up the lip of Keith Spivey’s wife Jolene Spivey while Rosetti and Daimon Helstrom talk about her. It appears that Jolene has been marked to be the next host for Kthara. They inform Dr. Hastings that they still can not reach Caretaker, and Daimon wants to talk to one of the patients from the hotel. He is not interested in what Caretaker is doing. Elsewhere, Caretaker is tied up in his own van. He finds out that his allegiance is being questioned and that there was a slaughter at the hotel. The van stops and Esther Smith reveals herself to Caretaker, telling him he is “home.”
Daimon can not sleep. He sees a shadow in his home, which leads him to find a wheelchair in his living room. The closer he gets to it, it moves back. A decaying Victoria Helstrom appears behind him telling him that he can not hide who he is anymore and should let it out. Mother's voice comes out. Rosetti wakes him up. As it turns out, he is in a bed at the ward. Daimon wants to talk to the possessed man from the hotel. The man explains that Daimon is a traitor because he has the blood of a demon, but that can change if he joins them. As it turns out, the Demons want their freedom, but only Mother can give it to them. Then the man turns his head 180 degrees and dies.
Dr. Hastings is on the search for Caretaker. She visits Archbishop Terrazi who may have contact with the Blood. He acts like he does not know what she is talking about despite the fact that she knows Rosetti's notes mention the group. The Archbishop reminds her that he once warned her about Daimon. Dr. Hastings makes a plea by stating that there is a monster out there. He concedes on making the call then tells her to warn Rosetti about leaving the position because the Church can't guarantee her safety.
Ana is lost within her memories when Yen interrupts her thoughts. She is there to work but Yen only came for his charger. He needs a break from work plus his boyfriend, Jackson did not believe the lie Ana told him. Ana does not care about Jackson at all and nearly bites Yen's head off, but Chris is not in the mood to deal with that mess either. He tells her to go back to Portland, Oregon and deal with her brother or find a way to handle her anger. Ana concedes and asks him to help her work.
Caretaker is tied up in his home as Smith informs him on what he missed out on. The house they are at turns out to be his family's home that he kept, even though they were killed during a time when he rebelled against the family business. Smith wants to find the demons, so she needs a knife owned by him that once attacked Caretaker. Only way she can find it is by cutting him because Caretaker's scar will react to it.
In San Francisco, California, Yen brings in a client but it is not the right one, which just upsets Ana. He reminds her why they do what they do, which is not to scratch an itch. Ana moves an item with her powers but Yen does not care about her little tantrums. Ana tells Jackson that she was the one accessing his police files, using them to vet potential clients, but while apologizing, uses her powers to drain his life force. Memories of how she escaped her father come back to her, and not wanting to be like him, she's stops herself. She returns to Yen who consoles her.
Elsewhere Daimon and Rosetti discuss their childhoods, and Daimon suggests Rosetti walks away before things get worse, but she tells him she's staying. The two meet with the Blood to rescue Caretaker. They get patted down and one of the Blood is about to stab Daimon with a dagger when he uses his demonic powers to stop the attack. However, he is quickly shot at, despite Rosetti's warning. He falls to the ground but quickly gets back up, while setting some of the members of the Blood organization on fire. Daimon picks up the dagger while Rosetti stares in horror.
