Throughout his campaign against Izel, Sarge planned on using a special sword to slay her, in a similar fashion as the Shrike Daggers were able to kill Shrike, although he never got the chance to get close enough to use it on his archenemy.
Sarge presented the sword to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Daisy Johnson and Melinda May, explaining that he wanted to use it to kill the beast he thought Izel to be. Johnson and May remained unimpressed by the sword, no matter how efficient Sarge claimed it to be, as the stories they had previously heard about Izel made them dubious that a simple sword could end her. Knowing that Johnson had kept secrets from him, Sarge then swung the sword towards Johnson, causing her to use her powers to violently deflect it and shove it in Sarge's Truck's wall, thus revealing her abilities to Sarge.
Thanks to Sarge's imprisonment in the Playground in the aftermath of the Destruction of the Shrike Tower, the sword was reclaimed by S.H.I.E.L.D. Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons took it into their lab, analyzing its properties and hoping to reverse engineer it so they could produce weapons against Izel. The sword was later reclaimed by Johnson to confront Sarge, who had begun to regain his full might and attempted to leave the Lighthouse. Johnson threatened to kill Sarge with his sword, but gave up on the idea upon hearing Sarge calling her "Skye" and dropped the sword. Since Johnson now trusted Sarge, he was allowed to get his sword back.
Sarge took his sword for a joint mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. against Izel. As he approached the Temple of the Forgotten with Johnson and May, Sarge admitted that he did not know where the sword came from and just considered that he always had it. As they faced several Shrike hosts, May noticed that Sarge did not use his sword, and he replied that he was saving it for Izel.
However, when finally confronting Izel, although she was horrified to discover that Sarge still had the sword, Sarge turned out to be unable to slay Izel with it. Moreover, a disturbed Sarge, taken between May and Izel, eventually got his whole memories back and sided with the latter, causing him to stab May with the sword. Both May and the sword were then sent through the portal to the Fear Dimension opened by Izel.
Nevertheless, May survived her wound due to the laws of life and death being different in the Fear Dimension, and was able to extract the sword from her body. She then used it to strike down The First, The Second and The Third. Alerted of her survival, Izel entered the Fear Dimension as well and was confronted by May armed with the sword. After a fierce battle between May wielding the sword and Izel using her daggers, Izel fled back to the Earthly Plane, leaving May to fight against the revived First, Second and Third.
Still, May was able to defeat these enemies and returned in her dimension as well. Arriving behind Izel who was on the verge of killing Johnson, May stabbed her in the back, killing her instantly and causing her body to vaporize. As Pachakutiq watched in shock and Johnson distracted him, May tossed the sword to Alphonso Mackenzie, who grabbed it and used it to slay Pachakutiq just like May had killed Izel.
Design and Capabilities
The sword appeared as a greater version of the Shrike Daggers, with the blade being made of a blue metal with a crystalline structure resembling that of the Di'Allas. Just like the daggers were among the only known artifacts able to kill the Shrike hosts, the sword was considered by Sarge and S.H.I.E.L.D. the only way of killing the likes of Izel. Upon being cut by the blades, the physical bodies Izel and Pachakutiq were possessing evaporated, leaving no traces behind.
